Tension of Klip Armour Pro 17g

I just ordered a set of Klip Armour Pro 17g to use it in my dear TF335 16X20. I heard that it plays like a soft poly when it's strung at certain tension, and that's what I want from AP. Currently, I like Topspin Cyber Flash 1.25 and other Lux BB strings at 60lbs. How high should I string Klip Armour Pro 17g to make it feel similar to those polys that I like?

First of all, not for nothing, but a little patience on your part might be appropriate. It seems like any time your questions aren't answered in two minutes, you bump the post and/or make comments.

Second, I use Armor Pro a lot. (Whenever it's in stock at TW it is my 1st choice gut.) But I have no idea how to make it play like poly. I string my AP 17g slightly above midpoint and it generates a lot of spin for me. It's also soft enough not to bother my elbow as well. But due to a sensitive elbow, I have not had a poly job in over 3 years so I can't speak to your question specifically.

well i've waited more than 3 hours for the answers and i've been searching for the answer. i don't think i bumped the posts that early. If you think I do, then how long do you think i have to wait until I can bump the post, 10 hours?

anyways, thx for sharing your experience. I just saw someone saying that it played kinda like soft poly. Well, I'm gettin a set in few days so I guess I just have to try it.

The second bump was OK, but the third was a bit much. And honestly, I don't think there's a way to make Armour Pro feel like a poly at all, unless you string at like 70 lbs. Armour Pro is still gut, albeit a stiff one, and gut will never feel like poly, no matter what you do.

You also posted at 9 pm central time and bumped it at midnight. I know that I personally don't go on the internet at those times.

I've got a set of Armour Pro in the mail - it'll be here Monday, and I'm going to string it up right away. I'll post my results, but it's going to probably be a bit different, as I have a tight pattern and string in the upper 50's.

How many hrs are you getting out of your Legend/BA setup?? Also, how do you like the Excellerator/CF??

(Sorry to hijack your thread a bit:neutral:)

I noticed that you were relatively new to the board and I don't mean to be critical, just making a suggestion. )I saw you did the same thing in a thread you started about hybrids with gut in the mains. You didn't get a reply within two hours and you bumped it.) Just trying to let you know that almost every legitimate post gets replies.

I guess I was too impatient on the second bump. I will try to cut it down and check the time first

I got probably 25 hrs or so out of my Legend 16 setup, and was getting about 7-10 with my Excellerator setup since it was 18 gauge. I have Armour Pro 17 right now with Big Ace crosses with about 4 hours on it, so I can't comment much on that.

25hrs--that is strong:twisted: Are you using string savers?? If so, which ones are you using. I may have to look into some since I was a "little" dissapointed in my 13hrs legend/titan.

I like it! It's nothing like poly, though.

It's a bit stiffer than regular gut and much easier to string.

55# or so max. on tension.

Yeah I don't really keep track of hours closely, so my numbers may be off, but I used the combo for all my matches this year and after calculating the time it was about 25 hours, roughly. I didn't use string savers either, but it is in an 18x20 racquet. In a 16 main racquet I would have expected the durability to suffer quite a bit.

Do you think it will be a lot stiff similar to poly if i string at 70lbs?

I had AP 16 on my Tour 90 but I didn't particularly like it because it didn't have the spin of poly while it had more power (can't blame it, that's what is expected really) and it was "pingy" in feel.

I don't have arm problems so I don't have too much reason to use it and I wouldn't know the difference, it hit like any ol' string I've use, nothing too special I couldn't find from other strings.

so it's still just gut but a bit sitffer than others. ahhh then i will just have to use poly...

Mishin900 like others have said AP is still gut, but a somewhat stiff one. I have recently discovered this string and now made the switch to it for 2 of my frames (the other with a VS. gut main red code cross hybrid). What I can tell you about my experience is this. First go round I increased tension since it was a full gut job to 61. THis wasn't too bad but didn't really give the power or feel I really wanted. Since then I have settled in at 58 to string at. I feel that this string plays quite stiff when very first strung up and then after about 1 hour of hitting seems to soften up just a bit and settle in right there. IMO if you like poly but are looking for a bit more feel and comfort give this string a shot. I'm not much of a string breaker and if this is you as well I would suggest the 17g as you will get more spin from that.
