I felt sad about the way Felix played the final, he was struggling all the match, he was not playing free as the others days, he was nervous and over hit in order to get winners instead of constructing the points at the end when all was almost done he finally played a bit better.

Hope to see him play better in the next final i dont want a Bennetau´s sindrome.

Marseille possible path for Felix: Travaglia, Herbert, Goffin, Medvedev, Shapo/Tsitsipas

Shapo: Bye, Cillic, Paire, Tsitsipas, Felix/Medvedev

Pospisil: Qualifier, Hurkacz, Tsitsipas, Shapo, Felix/Medvedev

Unfortunately Felix played terribly until it was all but over. Then, with no pressure, he mounted a comeback, and it looked like he might have a 50-50 chance of winning the second set. But as soon as winning was a possibility, he went back to playing poorly, and handed the match to Monfils.

Maybe if you stopped referring to him as an “a$$hole” with that dated nickname that didn’t stick he might do betterer.

The best thing he’s got going for him is that by the time he hits his prime, the Big 3 will be long retired.

He’s bound to eventually win something big by default then!

Felix has a lot of talent and I don't have doubt about that. However, he's still very young and I feel many expect way too much of him. Give him time to develop and learn. He has a wonderful team around him, and he has a great attitude. I don't worry about his future, and I feel certain big titles are in his future.

Hear, hear - way too much talk about choking yesterday. Monfils played way back and got to everything and hit it back solidly forcing Felix to go for too much and Felix's serve let him down. Even then he made some adjustments. Felix will find ways to beat these guys.

He's young, but so far he often does not perform well in pressure situations. I hope he can turn that around. His game is also boring, so I hope he's able to add some variety. He seems like a great kid (and that is confirmed by a friend who knows him and his family), so I wish him all the best.

Often his game can be boring, but then it can take on a different level at times. The contrast with the Sinner game was excruciatingly painful when he played and Sinner played matches back to back. I actually think he will become a great clutch player, I've seen some signs of that, not just in the heavens. No doubt at all that he's a great kid.

Not too relevant. Felix has four finals in a year at the age of 18/19. Looking through the list there are a lot of players who reached their first final into their 20s. Many of them took several years to reach their fourth or fifth final before their win.
Yeah... for many of the others, they probably had to overachieve and/or have some luck to even make it to the finals.

For FAA, given that he's reached four finals before he's even 20, the indications are he's actually good enough to make finals on a regular basis, and if he keeps putting himself in that position, he's going to break through sooner rather than later.

Of course, anything can change, but from the list, FAA's career trajectory is looking more like Bjorn Borg than Florian Mayer.

Ironically, the career trajectory is most similar to the guy who extended his winless finals streak with just one exception...Monfils won his very first ATP final a bit more than a year after dominating the junior slams. Felix took a bit more time to reach his first final but has now lost four of them in less than a year. Monfils lost his next four in a bit more than 1.5 years and two more in another 20 months.

His head is his weakness. It was in the junior (the junior RolandGarros finals or the Challenger finals against Shapovalov) it was in the pros (the massive choke against Isner) and it still was against Monfils. He also is way too impatient as the high UE numbers indicate. Again this has a lot to do with his head.

With some maturity let’s hope he controls his nerves a bit better. If not, we’re looking at the next Richard Gasquet. Not bad, not great. Just full of unfulfilled potential. But who knows, when the big 3 retires, maybe it’ll be enough for a few majors.

The head is his strength having saved two match points in his last match and three match points in this one. Fantastic match for Felix who joins two other Canadians in the quarters for the first time at an ATP tournament in Men's singles. Also commerations to Herbert who played a gritty match, a fantastic match.

Wow, Felix was incredibly lucky to win this. I honestly thought Herbert would pull it out. He has faced match points in both matches.

Felix could become a crowd favorite after that one. Felix said "his return of my smash was incrediable"
If Simon loses to Medvedev(likely) then zero French players left, leaving Felix with the player with the best French credentials for the crowd.

I haven’t seen the match. Good if his head was strong. I still believe it’s his biggest weakness. I think his young age and huge expectations placed on him are the culprit. Time will tell I guess.

My belief is that Felix will be known to be a clutch player as his career develops, but who knows, watch and see.

I watched the replay of the last set and got to admit Felix looked great in critical points. Hopefully he can carry this confidence all the way to the finals.

Felix wins the quarterfinal match routinely after an opening wobble 7-5, 6-2. Seemed to enjoy the affection of the crowd which won't be the case tomorrow against Simon. He'll be the favourite to win though and their H2H is 1-0 Felix. Speaking of H2Hs our boy is 2-1 against Tsitsipas who he could very well see in a high noon showdown on Sunday. Is this the week that Felix ties Federer at exactly 1-5 in finals before the age of 20? Stay tuned right here to find out using the refresh button every 5 minutes.

You can't jump from 0-4 to 1-5 in one tournament, silly.
@Sparlingo displayed his faulty math yesterday concerning odds for Canadian titles (100% chance due to 4 QFists). There’s still two alive but it won’t be 100% guaranteed until a second MP is won, eh?

I shall continue my search for a decent accountant elsewhere.

I was doing that on the dubious basis that 4 quarters is equal to a dollar.

Could be two 50 cent pieces for Canada if Raonic beats Opelka tonight. It's one 50 cent piece anyway with Felix winning in straights, the one I care about. Now you ask: what is the latest first for Felix? He's the first male player to five finals before their 20th birthday since Nadal.

Second final in a row for Felix. Most impressive. I've arrived at the conclusion that Felix is a far better player than Denis. He's more in control of his emotions, and he fights back harder in matches. This is not to suggest Denis doesn't fight hard but not as much as Felix. Also, Felix comes off as more mature and centered. I also believe he will likely have the better career.

That's a pretty impressive list. I wonder how many went on to win? Someone asked on the Denis thread whether the 2 are still friends. I don't see why they wouldn't be, but I can also imagine that Denis finds it a bit difficult to cope with the fact that his younger friend seems to be eclipsing him - for now. The future isn't written, but Felix's looks bright.

I’m confused: both Joe Kovic and Anduh Murrah are cited by Tennis TV tweet as members of that club and they are a year younger than The Nadal.

???

Shapo will be one of the greats of the game and so will Felix, and they are and will remain good friends. Both will have ups and both will have downs, as we've seen. Don't be a fair weather fan.
