Who would even think that 09 was greater? Seems crazy to me.

I'm a Roddick fan, so I think the 09 one was better .
But seriously, the 09 final resembled a grass court match more than the 08 one, so I preferred it more.
Does anyone have the numbers?
Ironically, the 09 finals had less UE's if im not mistaken
08 was wayyyyyy better. Better rallies, better points, lot of drama, and was simply epic in the way it ended after 9 pm when the stadium was covered in darkness and was illuminated by flash lights. I will always remember that match, even though I wasnt thrilled by the result
08 was better. 09 was a boring serve fest.
Yeah I was rooting for Federer the whole time. You weren't thrilled?

As a massive Federer fan and someone who is often prone to bias, even I have to admit that the 2009 final was pretty dull.
When it went to the fifth set I spent more time looking on facebook, I didn't glance back to the TV until it was 5-all. After that it wasn't so much exciting as it was a long drawn out "Wtf?" moment.
The end of the first set was interesting, the 2nd set tiebreaker was exciting, I don't honestly remember the 3rd set tiebreak and tbh somehow I was expecting Roddick to break Federer at some point during the 4th and take it to 5 sets.
The 2008 final on the other hand almost gave me multiple heart attacks.
I'm here Azz and I gave my reasons in the previous thread :wink:where is Mandy??
well it was different for me.I literally tried to sleep off after the second set and got up when my friend called up to tell me that Roger had won the third set.And that was when they were well into the fourth set :lol:well stated. that final had me squirming on the couch on many shots and rallies. after all that "greatest match ever" talk, I purchased the match and have watched it 3 times since...really a fantastic slow grass match.
I agree with this.Anyone who saw that match knows it was more than just a serve fest.Out of the 107 ( I think ) winners that Roger hit,50 were aces but the rest were some really good points.I wasnt real impressed with the 08 final. See that style all year long, while the 09 final had more variety. After watching tennis throughout the 90's, i can say that wasnt a servefest.
It was kinda like the yec this year, faster surface so the style was different. Not the same thing over and over with a different color surface.

Same for Andy ( though I cant remember his stats)
JBF-I always thought that if the match went to the fifth set Nadal was going to come out on top.He was playing the best tennis I had seen him play on grass and Roger for the first half was playing well below par.I saw the match. In my opinion it was a boring serve fest. Not as many long rallies as the 08 final (that I remember), somehow I knew Roger would pull it out in the end.
I don't see how you can say you knew the outcome of the 08 final the entire time. You can't honestly sit here and tell me that after Fed hit that backhand pass at MP in the 4th you thought "oh well, Fed's just going to lose it in the 5th now". No. The outcome was in the balance all the way until the end really, add to that the impending darkness...forget the drama, let's just talk about the tennis then.
The 08 final, after watching that match, there was a feeling of "I've never seen two guys play tennis as well as these guys are playing it right now" The level was much higher, there were much more long rallies....looking at it now, I don't see how you can put 09 over 08. Obviously it's all perspective, but for me it's not even close. 08 takes the cake.
The Nadal-Federer match.
At 10-10 in the 5th in the other match, I was already bored and ready for Roddick to inevitably lose.
I preferred Wimbledon 2008.
Both were matches for the history books with unbelievable performances.
Wimbledon 2008 Nadal defeated Federer, stopped his streak and proved he was really #1 and better than the proclaimed modern GOAT
Wimbledon 2009 Roddick unforced errored gifted an epic match to Federer late in the 5th set TB What a way to ruin part of history.
