Thiem was better.
I agree.
He would not have won anyway.
Ditto.
Interesting, but predictable, at the same time.

Sorry I meant vs Del Potro.
USO is so annoying, Fed could’ve bagged a title between 2016-2019 if he’d arrived at one of them fully fit. In fact, I’d argue his 2015 level takes any of them. Only difference is he gets peak Djokovic in 2011/2015 his best runs this decade.

At old age, is so difficult to win the last Major of the year, the US Open.
Indeed, it was unfortunate for him that in 2015, the only player who could defeat him, "Djoker", was on his way.

I agree with Nadal's match at W vs Fed. I was so annoyed with the way he played that match. He had got himself in such good form reaching to that match. Was outserving fed and djok until that point. His form was so good that even on grass bookies favored Nadal to win that match. But somehow a different weak animal turned in that SF. Was missing simple balls. poor serves and no return game. When Nadal won second set by 6-1 (though it was more of Federer tank than Rafa playing well), i thought he'll find some fight and form but none happened until Fed was serving for the match and it was too late by then.

It was so frustrating performance by him.

Djokovic vs Thiem @ Roland Garros
Hurricane conditions. Never took the lead after the first game to see how Thiem will respond. Wasted so many chances.
Really wanted to see a Djokovic Nadal final after AO and Rome.

What choke? You mean the 40-0 game that Nadal broke from Federer? That is not a "choke", it is a consequence of facing Nadal. Nadal does it a lot of times (break the opponent when he is 40-0). He did it also this year in the US Open final. When something occurs many times (breaking the opponent's serve when 0-40 down) that is no longer a choke, but a pattern. With Nadal you have to fully earn your service game, a 40-0 is never enough with Nadal as he never gives up. And it was Nadal on clay, so it is unsurprising.

Technically speaking, nadal had no business Winning any match at this WTF whatsoever by his game level. He went by the sheer force of his will

Disagree, besides his poor match against Street, he was the better player in the first two sets against Meddy, before the Russian collapsed in the third one, and against Τσιτσιπάς, he was simply the best player in the whole match, there is no doubt about it.
A lousy match at the beginning of the competition cost him the qualification to the semifinals and given the level of the competitors in the final of the tournament, the Spaniard could have achieved something else ...

Djokovic's loss to Medvedev in Cincinatti really aggravated me at the time. No disrespect to Goffin but I don't think he would've beaten Novak in the final which would've meant winning all 9 Masters at least twice, being equal with Nadal on 35 titles and perhaps even giving him the edge for a 6th YE #1. It was just the damnedest thing how Medvedev suddenly started playing out of his skin from 3-3 0-30 in the 2nd set, especially when you contrast it to his pathetic collapse against Nadal at the WTF. That loss honestly stung me more than some of Novak’s GS defeats in recent years, very frustrating indeed.

Would stretching it to 5 sets really make you feel that much better? It was already a close match (way closer than people give it credit for)

Set 1: tiebreak
Set 2: Rafa stomp
Set 3: single break
Set 4: single break

And the way he held serve at the end and grinding out all those match points makes it seem like his heart was fully in it. He just got beat.

Injured, then.

If it's no for being a fan, how about being a friend?!
It's pretty universal language, ofc it was a joke like yours too, I just couldn't resist it :)
I thought we are already friends. We started as foes, and now we are in completely different relationship.

The only inexplicable Nadal’s loss for me this year is Wimbledon SF. He was playing at a very high level ever since he beat Kyrgios in R2, and suddenly brain death in the most important match. Was very frustrated with Nadal’s performance at the time, not so much now. The only explanation that comes to mind is Nadal not willing to fight against Federer like against rival anymore, now that they are "friends" (Nadal believes they are).

True he really underperformed in this match - was so cagey and unsure of himself throughout. Outside of clay he tends to lose the first set against Fed before finding his groove and asserting himself later on. It was such a anti climax after all the build up.

For me it has to be AO2019. To see Rafa so completely destroyed like that in a final was soul destroying. He looked such a force to be reckoned with throughout the tournament crushing Tsisitpas in the SF. Yes Djoker was the favourite but Rafa always at least makes it a hard fight against him yet was completely despondent. He was clearly beaten mentally already before he stepped on the court and we never ever think that of Rafa. As usual he bounced back to have the final say at the end of the year. Yet another AO slips firmly from his grasp

Of course overtaking Roger in 2020 remains the most important, but I still feel he needs 1 -2 more big slam wins over Nole, preferably off clay. Just to help his claim for GOAT even more should he finally beat Roger next year.

Djoker's next loss with Wawrinka in GS tournaments was the most frustrating for me.

Other:
  • against Bautista at Doha and Miami
  • against Thiem at WTF
