tried once Cyclone and didn't like it. felt quite standard, nothing remarkable.
I switched quickly to my trusted 4G soft and I could really feel the difference in control and playability because it suits my game perfectly (except the price lol)

I might try it again, as so many people talk wonders about it. Actually my new go string is Black Knight 1.28 (TC95 16X19), and I see no reason to change as I've been playing so well this past weeks.
I'm on the way to receive a K7 red for a recreational use / backup racquet, would BK suit it as well ? any other recommandation?

I'm really surprised at how much pop the TC 97 has. It feels much livelier than my VCore Pro 97 or Phantom Pro 100p.

The only issue is, I can't handle a full bed of poly, or at least not Hyper G. At 54 lbs. it's just too harsh on my shoulder and elbow. I will probably string it up with an OGSM/Cream hybrid or a full bed of Cream at a lower tension.
I'm almost 2 years in with my TC100's but picked up a couple of V2 TC97's and I think it will be my main stick going forward. I'm actually using a gut/poly hybrid, super comfy. The TC97 does have some good pop but also creates some nice action on the ball. My TC100 is good for bashing, the TC97 is just a little better with precision, for me.

Has anyone used grapplesnake strings on their Angell? I'm thinking about trying the Neon Dust / Liquid Neon Dust hybrid, or the Tour Sniper.

haven't played with pt280/630 but played lime and red. Lime has more control and more stability with maybe even better feel ! :)

I thought the K7 red was more powerful and spin friendly than the PT280, I just picked up the lime so I hope it's between the two in terms of spin and power. I need a bit more power than the PT280 now

I found the same when I tried it. It can fire lasers! I tried the tour version (16x19, 320g unstrung). On the poly front Volkl cyclone tour is really soft and spin friendly - which I expect would be handy in the tc97. The VCT and Yonex poly tour air are rated by twu as less stiff than many multis. I tried the VCT for several months in the cold winter whilst in recovery from golfers elbow and it was great. (In a blade though).

try a lower powered poly at a lower tension perhaps? RS Lyon or Yonex poly tour pro at 48 or lower? It is worth getting used to but it takes time.

Curious, what strings/tension are you using with the gut/poly?

After reading this thread off and on for a few years, I finally took the plunge and bought a used Vantage 95. I was looking to buy a TC95, but the Vantage 95 popped up on the for sale forums, and my understanding is that they’re basically the same frame.

It is 16x19, 320g/310mm, 63RA. I’ve been playing with Yonex Ai98’s for years, so I’m not sure how different it’s going to be. My Ai98’s are about 350g strung, so the static weight shouldn’t be an issue, but I’m not sure how different the swing weight will be. I’m really looking forward to finally hitting with one of these racquets. I’ll report back after putting it through its paces.

I agree that Cyclone changes its characteristics. And when you say that after of couple of hours it plays better - for me it becomes a bit stiff. :)
yeah I found its best after an hour of hitting... its dead when it gets plasticky feeling. I used to use it when I played with Prestige MP's

Its a very different frame that takes a lot of getting used to... pure drive power but only when unlocked with prep and a full fast swing (so not puredrive like swinging)... scary spin and yet hits a great flat ball. It seems to like low tension, low powered polys and its a bit string sensitive. Feel is muted in a way that a lot of players will need to adjust to. Best for players that build their game around weapons and want to enhance them. Its a ball striker's frame and well... super fun.

I've been playing the TC95 18x20 63RA for the past year+. I grew up playing extended length racquets, so I took a chance and bought a slightly used 27.5" version of the same racquet. The way I have them strung, weighted and balanced is basically identical right now. Though I don't have a swingweight measurement, I assume the longer one is up to 20 units more. Anyways, I played with the 27.5" stick in a singles match yesterday. I had no problem re-adjusting to the longer racquet and enjoyed the best flat serving day I have had in quite some time. I am interested to see how this shakes out. I am a big, tall guy, so don't "need" the extra length. But that's what I learned to play with, so it just feels natural to me.

I can imagine... Im kinda in the same situation ... I just dont need the reach but man oh man do extened length frames let me hit huge 1st flat serves. Thing is Ive noticed that just isnt the way the game works these days. I actually hit more aces off of my super twisty second serve these days. TC95 excells at both... really unique frame for a server with variety.

I’m currently using the 2018 Babolat pure drive tour plus which I love but my arm Suffers the next couple days. I’ve been researching the Angell TC 100 27.5 in , but not sure which specs to use. Also, can someone compare the TC 100 27.5 to the pure drive tour plus. Please advise. Cheers

When I first came back to the game I used the Babolat Roddick 27 in. and ran into the same problems... Ive never had elbow problems before or since. TC100 has similar power but its more responsive so you have to unlock the power more than with the babolat. Better touch, feel, precision etc with the TC100. Its really more of a player's tweener than the Babolat but i think they occupy a similar spectrum. I find the TC 100 is similar in that it is just a beast serving stick. The 63ra version in particular returns far better though.

A question:
I have been playing the TC95 V1 in the past and I really liked the frame for power, spin and the solid feel etc. Despite that I sold the frame, because on some days it felt somewhat too heavy too swing. I had the 63 ra, 320 g/310 mm version. At the moment I play with the k7, sometimes with some lead, but I miss something in it (power on the serve and some stability especially om my backhand).
Now I am thinking to switch back to the TC 95 and maybe someone can help me making the best choice for the specs.
Will the new version with 310 g/310 mm have a lower swingweight and will the 70 ra version also be more manouverable?

I’ve had the k7 red and a few tc95s. K7 doesn’t seem to stand up to the might of a tc95 imho. K7 is very comfortable and unique, but lacks put away power. That’s why I quit using it. For a tc95, I’d choose whatever weight and balance you want. Paul has told me that there is no difference in swingweight between various weights. Just choose what you want. Supposedly with the new v3 customs, the swingweight are a bit more in line with each other for both RAs. If true, I would choose an RA based on feel at this point.

I was in the same boat as you. Switched from PD+ to Yonex Ezone DR 98+ for a year before switching to the Tc100 27.5, 70RA.

The tc100 is definitely more comfortable than the PD+. I think it also has a more open string bed which results in more loopy shots (read:spin). I much prefer the Angell compared to both the Yonex and babolat for various reasons. The one thing you have to look out for is SW on the extended length. The angell at 27.5 is 310 unstrung so you're looking at roughly 340 strung SW. I ended up requesting for a 335 SW from Paul.

I play with Tour Bite at 48/46 and it feels a lot stiffer on the Angell than the Yonex, presumably because of the oval head shape. Am looking to play around with tension and other string types if anyone has suggestions. My criteria is pretty simple: maximum spin potential

I've been through the same route.

I have 2 TC95 (V1) 16x19's which I've used as my only racquets for a couple of years. Both came as 320/305 . I add an overgrip & dampener. So they were around 344g and 310 (10pts HL) in playing form. As an experiment about 6 months ago I shuffled the weights in the pallet and removed about 6g, to get them down to around 338/319 (8 pts HL), which I preferred. I didn't really notice the loss in plow through and found it a bit easier to keep the pace up after 3-4 sets (we play two consecutive 2 set matches in a our regional doubles leagues).

I was fortunate to acquire a used K7 (1st batch) at a low enough price . A good racquet, especially at the net and mid court pick ups. It was a bit lacking in plow through in stock form so I added about 1-2 g of lead @ 12 and a few g's in at the end of the handle to bring it up to around 333g and 7 pts HL. That was better, but after persevering for a few months I still found I wasn't getting the kind of pace and power I was looking for unless I had plenty of time to prepare (ie full swing etc) - which is ok in singles, but something of a luxury in doubles. I've passed this on to my 30 year old , who's never been lacking power, so he's enjoying it just fine.

I was teased by the tales of lower swing weight in the V3 models, and thanks to the TW F/Sale forum and helpful @Grigore Petre , I've since acquired a TC 95 (v3) 16x19. If I had been able to afford new, I would have gone for the 310/315 spec - expecting that to be close to my slightly pared down 320/305 V1's. The spec I acquired was the 300/325 (6 pts HL) version. In its standard strung form, with an overgrip & dampener it comes in at 330/325 (6pts). I added about 7g at the end of the handle , so it's now around 337/318 (8 pts) - so very similar to my current V1's ( so that I can swap if string breaks during a match) . I've used it in half a dozen matches, plus practice, social sessions and I'm delighted with it. I don't have a means of measuring SW with any accuracy, but I presume from this thread that its somewhat lower than the V1's. It feels very similar when just picking them up and shadow swinging, but I've noticed a useful benefit in matches in maintaining the pace, with no noticeable loss of strength of shots, ability to return hard serves etc. It's hard to quantify but I find my serve working better (probably the improved swing speed), and volleys/pick ups more controlled. My match results have also improved , but that may, or may not be the racquet :)

I hope that helps

Did anyone play with K7 Lime and Wilson Ultra Tour? How do they compare regarding:
  • feel/feedback of the sweetspot.
    • I read somewhere that the sweetspot of the WUT is more like PT57A whereas I think the Lime has a less distinct sweetspot. I actually prefer the feedback of my TC95 18x20 63RA. Does the WUT feel more like the TC95?
  • Ease of use

I came from Prince TT95 to Angell TC95 63RA and eventually pulled the trigger on a K7 (edit: Red!) and have played and adjusted to it for some time.
But as it was at the stringers, I picked up my backup TC95 strung at same tension and same string (RS Lyon).
Gotta say I didn't like it at all anymore. Felt trampoline like and... I don't know. Much more powerful than I remembered it.
The K7 (edit: Red!) feels much crisper and direct despite having similar RA, I just seem to work better with this more muted and "by design stiffer" frame.
Something in the layup there.

Anyway, this was outdoor clay and I usually play indoor hard so perhaps an unfair comparison but I had to resort to my "backup backup" Prototype PJ Head Speed Touch Pro! ("-Blasphemy" I hear you cry...)

Then again, I am of the opinion that you can get used to any frame so stick with one that works well, settle on a string and stop chasing unicorns. ;)

interesting, i have the opposite experience :)

with the Angell, i got the K7 Red first, then the TC100 63RA within a space of a couple of weeks if i remembered correctly. Strung both with fullbed of multi at same tension (Babolat Addiction 16 @ 54lb) and thought K7 Red was better for my game, i was enjoying every aspect of the racket at the time.

i remembered the TC100 stayed in the bag for weeks, until @saleem helped me with some mods/adjusted MgR/I on both, then all of the sudden, the TC100 felt better, i felt it had better plow through & stability and gave me the power i needed (maybe because of the 100"), especially on the serve... then... i moved to TC95 16x19 63RA recently, initially i couldn't gel with it, simply because of the higher strung SW when compared to the TC100, even though the final static weight and balance were very similar between the two.

Then @saleem came to the rescue again and helped me to mod the TC95... now it plays like another stick and everything just felt better. i have a fullbed of Halo 3 at the same tension as the TC100 and K7, and right now i felt it does everything better... but i still need a few more hours/sessions to further dial it in on the strokes, especially the BH - it is a bonus that it serves bombs too, just like the TC100. (it could well be the "honeymoon period"..)

looks like i will be switching to TC95, so i need to decide on what to do with the TC100 and the K7... lol

Hi, Ive done the the half circle of going from tc97 16*19 to k7 red and now to tc95 63ra 16x19. Tc95 is the best for my game so far but i wonder ifthere is a way to make it more stable. Ive tried adding weight but it gets too heavy to swing before it gets stable. If i switch to my old head speed pro i always think oh this is so easy to play with - it has stability, control and spin (ignoring the not so nice hollow feel). If i wanted to make an angell speed pro equivalent what would be my best bet- tc100 70ra 18*20? Or k7 lime? Does the stability increase noticably going up from 95 to 100? One thing id like to keep is the high launch angle (after tc 95 its hard to go back to tc97 or k7 red because of that but for some strange reason i never had launch angle / spin generation problems with speed pro despite its dense string pattern). Thank you

The TC97 16x19, TC95 16x19, and K7 Red all use the same replacement grommets... which means the string patterns are identical. Therefore, the launch angles should be fairly similar.

As for the weighting issue... have you tried using the sleeves that Angell sells? The TC95 63RA 16x19 that I got from the bay had them on already, and I found the racquet to be very stable. As they are about 1.5g and spread over that larger area, I find they don't make the racquet too heavy. Also, what are the starting specs of your TC95?

Has anyone played with both the TC100 Ra 63 and 70? I've got my first Angell in the RA70 and loving it so far. Thinking of getting a second, and wondering if i should stick with the 70 to have a completely similar setup but at the same time still curious as to how the 63 plays.

Also any recommendations for string setup? My normal tour bite setup feels a lot tighter on the Angell for some reason.
Thanks!

Hi Angell users,
I am currently playing with an Allwood 102 racquet (new model), only doubles these days, I use an eastern forehand grip and an eastern backhand one (one hand). I like this racquet but I feel is lacking a bit of precision which is quite important in the doubles game. I was thinking of getting a TC97 (16X19) but I am not sure if I should go for the 300/325 specs or the 310/315 ones, I am after something more maneuverable at net without losing stability.

How well do they do matching frames? If you order 1 and come back to order more, will they be the same?
Specs of every racquet produced are in Paul's database. You will notice a small sticker inside throat with a unique number. You can request specs to match and provide that unique number even if you purchase your other stick months later.

I have three matched V3 TC97 18x20 currently and a bunch of other Angells. Never had an issue with matching specs.

Angells are the only sticks which actually swing and feel identical, in my experience. I have HEAD Speed Pros, Pro Staffs and even a couple of Prince Phantom 93P which are similar in weight and balance but don't feel identical when playing.

Does this also count for the K7? I can't find any sticker with a number on my K7 Lime. Yesterday night I ordered my second one (without any comments). I hope I'll receive one with the same specs as my first one.

Good point. I am not sure about K7. I don't see a sticker on my K7 either. I think the stickers are only for Custom lines perhaps. My V2 and V3 TC line racquets all have them on the inside of throat towards the handle.

Thanks. For some reason unknown to me they play differently in my hands despite using the same grommets

That might be a good idea to try the sleeves. I ve been using tungsten tape which is the opposite - lots of weight over small area so ive been putting some little patches at 3.30 and 5 and the same on yhe other side.

The starting specs were 320g and 10pts hl. But that was with the hybrid grip which i have swapped for babolat skin feel - that would have shaved a few g off

Should have gone for a more head heavy balance perhaps.

What do you think of the 93p phantom compared to tc97?

The 93P is a great mid, probably best in the market. It plays a bit bigger than 93 square inch head size. It is quick through the air, maneuverable at net and hits very solid.

For construction, it is very thin beamed so feel and touch are excellent. Very low launch angle compared to TC97. Also 93P feels more traditional whereas TC97 is a more modern. The 93P, in my opinion, a great stick for a predominantly doubles player looking for touch, feel and volleying.

I feel more comfortable with my TC97 though. I hav gotten used to Angell head shape (Prince Phantoms are very round). The TC 97 have the right combo of balance, comfort, power and forgiveness. That is not to say 93P is a bad racquet. The Phantoms are a great line offered by Prince. But I just think my Angells are a better fit for me.

My TC100 has a “serial number” with the black/grey coloured Union Jack flag next to the spec, including the RA spec. My TC95 does not the a serial number and it has blue/red coloured Union Jack next to the spec and it does not have the RA spec. My K7 Red does not have a serial number.

Could the black/grey coloured Union Jack version be the later version and the blue/red coloured Union Jack be the first/earlier version?

So, in the case of the TC95, how do I tell Paul if I like another with similar spec, especially the swing weight?

I don't think Union Jack color sticker plays a role, to be honest. I have blue/red colored Union Jack sticker on two of my V2 TC100 and they have the Angel Custom number sticker too.

Also, my V3 TC97 have black Union Jack sticker and they have the Angel Custom number sticker as well.

I do know that Paul is fantastic when listening to requests and if you talk to him before ordering, he can give you the exact stick you want.

Cool, thank you for the photos. It looks like the number sticker for the TC95 must have fallen off on mine.
The V3 paint job looks so nice and tempting too.

Does this also count for the K7? I can't find any sticker with a number on my K7 Lime. Yesterday night I ordered my second one (without any comments). I hope I'll receive one with the same specs as my first one.
If you ordered from the same email address/shipping address I'm certain Paul will match your frames.

Hi, quick question regarding the vantage customs. Do you know whether the custom vantages have the same weight in handle under the pallet system as the angells? Thanks

I picked up a used Vantage 95 here on the forums and compared it to my trusty Yonex Ai98's (weighted up to about 350g). I could not seem to adjust to it. It might be a swing weight issue, but I never managed to find the control I was looking for, specifically with the launch angle. I felt like sometimes I'd get a high loopy ball, and sometimes I'd get more of a flat drive with what I thought was a similar swing. I had the racquet strung with Tier One Firewire Boost poly hybrid. I have used those strings in my Ai98's and had no issues with the launch angle. All I can figure is my stroke is not well-suited for the Vantage 95/TC95.

Needless to say, I have the Vantage 95 listed for sale/for trade. Please PM me if you're interested.

I currently have TC95 RA70 as my first racquet. Planning to order V3 with same/simliar specs.
Is it going to be similar enough to be able to switch from one stick to another during a match without much adjustment?

I love my TC95 for a perfect balance between power and comfort. If I could improve one thing though, it would be a bigger sweetspot.
Would V3 have a larger sweetspot vs. TC95, or is it about the same?

Thanks,
