Ruud has won 16 of 19 serve points against Ramos-Vinocough.

Ramos answers incorrectly and is broken nearly at love for the set. Ruud 6-2

You both are fools. Ruud may not be top 5, but he will be such a force on clay. He's already on the cusp or even perhaps better than Cuevas or Pella ever were and they are nice players. Ruud is just 20; this is utter foolishness relegating him to barely making the top 30 (the two you name junior are really top 20, so better than morten's nonsense.

in other news, Ruud finally dominates the aging Ramos, winning the first set 6–2.

I'm sure we are very honoured!

In my (mui mui humble) opinion, Ruud may be a top 10 clay player (which Cuevas arguably is) maybe already next year. But he will struggle on the other surfaces. I don't like your kiss of death, though. He went straight downhill the last time you hyped him

Right now he is kicking Ramos' butt, and that is wonderful. Hope he gets someone beatable in R1.

Rather that than the kiss of mediocrity. Cuevas is close to a top ten player on clay.

Nooooooo Ruud fails to serve out at 5-3:mad:

I think the only way Casper Ruud can break through the shackles of mediocrity and join the vaunted echelons of Clay Journeyman GOAThood next to Cuevas and Ramos-Viñolas is if he starts to take responsibility for his own career and stops pushing @Meles 's jinx attempts ahead of him as an excuse.

I could see him checking his phone on changeovers when the going got tough, no doubt scrolling through TTW to see if Meles had popped the champagne prematurely. He was looking for a easy way out. Only when he learns to let go of this will he be able to chase goathood in Båstad.

[I see it is time that I log off the internet for a bit]

On a serious note, why did Ruud not play last week? Has he been injured?

previous pages of the thread suggests he caught a cold and some arm fatigue in Houston, and has spent some time in Norway in the meantime.

Ach well, minuscule hope of a LL spot still alive, I guess:cool:

Mannarino got the first LL slot, replacing Jo Ali (non-medical withdrawal).

Fokina may have to pull out but no further word on that or who is next in line.

Ruud 54% points won on clay level ATP matches >>>> Garin around 51.5%. Ruud should have won Houston final in straight sets. Garin to his credit was super clutch that week and in Sao Paulo, but that won't hold forever. Ruud's time will come.

Carin has 2 titles from 3 finals this season.
Ruud just choked away a win vs old ARV trying to qualify for Madrid. I root for Casper, I really do, but so far he is not quite what you make him out to be.

An interesting match-up in first-round qualifying action this weekend in Rome where Casper Ruud has been drawn to play the 17-year-old home hope Lorenzo Musetti. The winner of that encounter will take on either 19-year-old Miomir Kecmanovic or 22-year-old Hubert Hurkacz for a place in the main singles draw.

Norwegian solidity met Italian flair earlier today at the Foro Italico in Rome with Norway winning out in straight sets. Young Lorenzo Musetti doesn't lack self-confidence, but he is too inexperienced as yet to make make much of an impression at ATP level. He intermixed a certain number of beautiful shots with a larger number of juvenile errors, with the result that Casper Ruud didn't have too much to do as he built a 6-1, 2-0 lead. After that things were closer, with Musetti even engineering a break point later on in the second set. However, with the help of his ever-reliable foreand (his best and favourite shot), Ruud held on, serving out to thirty in the last game of the match for a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

I watched Ruud up close in Houston. He has a very solid clay game. Let’s hope he qualified in Rome and puts in a good showing.

In a first-round match in Rome between two qualifiers, Casper Ruud will face the Englishman Dan Evans, with the winner of that encounter to play either the no. 12 seed, Daniil Medvedev, or Nick Kyrgios. Both of these matches have been scheduled to take place tomorrow, Monday.

Ruud awakens after a slow start vs clay mug Evans (won 2 ATP main draw matches). Evo served for the set at 5-4 but Ruud finally got a BP and converted, held and broke again, 7-5.

Casper hit the snooze button and immediately goes down double break in the second set. smh

Gonna go do a pub crawl with Dano...more fun!

Not the worst draw as Casper draws Daniel 'down-the-line' Evans in the first round. The winner goes up against whoever comes out on top of Kyrgios and 'bs Russian'.

There are noe real good nicks for Nick, are there?

I see Tankios often - but isn't that walking all over Tomic the Tank Engine's and Tankrinka's domene?

Anyway, Dandy Line looks to be to aggressor here, after just serving a fresh smultring to friendly Casper :cautious:
