Any slam streak record has to start at the top, with consecutive slams won. After that we can move on to other types of streaks that did not result in actually winning the tournament.Fed 23 consecutive slam semifinals is the greatest record in tennis history. And arguably the greatest record in all sports.
Pat Rafters one week at the top of the ATP rankings will never be beaten.
The only ATP record that is completely unbreakable for all eternity.
What record would that be though?
It's not fewest weeks as No 1, since there are of course very many players with zero weeks at the top.
Djokovic got close, 14 straight 2010-2013 and 24 out of 25 from 2010-2015 F--k you WawrinkaFed 23 consecutive slam semifinals is the greatest record in tennis history. And arguably the greatest record in all sports.
But that’s not how it works. I’m sure there’s some obscure combination of tennis results (runner up at IW and lost in 3R at the USO for three consecutive years!) that is also rarer than winning 4 slams in a row. So what?Well history disagrees with you there... more have won 4 slams in a row than have gone to 23 semi-finals in a row. I know not a fair comparison, but the stats do say it is harder.
14 is not really close to 23. It's 2+ years of majors less.Djokovic got close, 14 straight 2010-2013 and 24 out of 25 from 2010-2015 F--k you Wawrinka
Negative records aren't really records; they're just trivia. Records are achievements.and neither will the record he set in the match he played after that. greatest ace total difference in consecutive matches. hint: it's a 113 again.
The 23 SF in a row is practically useless as a record. There’s very little of value in that record that is not already captured in Fed’s 20 slams won.Who the f--k care of those 23 in a row "record"?
It's like those NBA records like "first player younger than 25 and taller than 2 m to have more than 15 points, 10 jumps and 7 assist, in the second half in regular season game"
WHO CARES?
And to call that one of best accomplishments? He was consistant, we know, but Novak was too, if not equally, than in same category. Maybe someone else... so what?
No aces in said match either.I don't think hitting 113 aces and getting bageled in the next match will ever be topped, no.
Imagine smoking 103 aces in one match and coming away thinking, "If I just got a few more free points from my serve...'The astonishing fact is, the man who got closest to the record was Mahut! He hit 103 aces that match!
24/25, though. One upset loss from beating it.14 is not really close to 23. It's 2+ years of majors less.
Yeah, but avoiding that one upset loss for that long is what makes it so special! Besides, Federer himself had 24/25 too so it's not like he even has him beat there.24/25, though. One upset loss from beating it.
