TiS6 coating coming off from outer clamps?

Hey everybody,

I’ve been stringing a few TiS6s lately and noticed a reoccurring issue where some of the soft coating will come off where the mounts are (at 2,5,7, and 10) after I’m done stringing them. Just wanted to know if you guys have been experiencing the same since it seems to scratch so easily!

I string a few of those every few months, as some of the local old timers hit with that light racquet, and I never experienced the issues you described.

Have not experienced this stringing Ti.S6s or Ti.S5CZs. I assume you are referring to that matte finish.

Yes! That’s exactly what I was talking about! Just couldn’t think of the words for it. The matte finish just seems to scratch of very easily on both my Gamma progression and Baiardo. I even noticed some of it coming off from just tying the knots with just synthetic gut! Really bizarre as it’s only these frames with the matte finishes that does this. Should I just chalk it up to quality control or poor mounting?

Only reasons I can think of is that too much pressure may be applied against the side supports. If this is the case, then you may need to lightly pre-stretch the frames at 6 and 12 when you mount. When you are finished, are the frames tight at 6 and 12 or do they just come off?

Still tight if I recall. I make it barely finger tight, only enough for the racquet to not turn and move. I'll have to make a mental note next time to tighten the 6 and 12 supports.

Measure the length of a strung racket after stringing. If it’s too long / short it is being distorted in the stringing process. You may want to try using the Stringway online tension advisor to balance pressure on the frame‘s mains and crosses.

I have strung this many times. It is a very popular frame for some reason.
I never noticed any occurrence where top coating came off.
Clients never complaints, so i would assume they didn't notice either.

What tension you are stringing the frame? Higher tension would mean more distortion and more pressure against mounting system.
Typical tension for TiS6 is high.

I will observe closely next time I do this frame.

Most, if not all the TiS6s have been strung at 62lbs.

Stiffness of 75!
Adding very high tension to that frame can cause arm issue for sure.

62# is not high in Super OS frames. I have done Prince Premier OS [120 in² ] at 67# with no issues. Very wide string spacing mitigates the stiffness plus most of the players don't swing that hard. Those that do hit the sweet spot.

The type of string used needs to be factored in how the string feels in terms of stiffness.
Softer multi or gut like string will be easier than stiff string.
