Toni Nadal Lights The Fire... Enjoy!

Just got these Toni Nadal quotes, no link there, from Matt Cronin's Tennis Reporters Twitter feed

"Federer has beaten us more than once with Rafael having significantly more pain than Roger was in at Indian Wells"

and

"I'm clear that the situation of Federer at Indian Wells was no worse than that Rafael has had on many other occasions"

take the day off, go to town...it's all good

He is correct. The back pain news leak was just a well-timed excuse to explain the inevitable loss. The Fed ***** in the media even headlined the results with "Ailing Federer loses to Nadal." But then they also have people like Bozo who immediately wrote an article that no one should discuss Rafa's knees any more (implying it was a lie). Why are these hate mongers in the media allowed to flourish?

Wow, interesting to know that all of these guys have the same thoughts in their head that TTW posters do.

It was pretty obvious to everyone, but they were in denial. Fed was doing fine in the Stan match, and till he went down 4-6 in the first set against Nadal. It was pretty close. Once the first set was lost, the "back pain" revealed itself. It is a pattern he has been following all the time. Let some news leak out. Then deny it vehemently and say his back is great (to show he is not putting down his opponent). Then leak out something after the match while saying the opponent played great.

I must say one of the most immature threads ever....yes of course we all know the levels of pain these players are supposedly not under........fed is lying ........of course..........because he is so scared of losing to nadal?

People at their level do not think in such petty ways as some of the people here do........

Why can't we all just accept that we, as outside observers, can not know how much pain someone is in from observing them or reading press releases? The only person who really knows that is the player, and most likely even they can't adequately explain their level of pain. I know that most of the time, an ache or a sprain is simply a way of avoiding the fact that a player was just having a bad day, but that's no reason to mock them for it. If they said, "all right, I just sucked today," they would get ripped by the media for being a
"quitter."

Toni is absolutely correct, in fact Federer has beaten nadal 10 times when nadal was injured, H2H would be significantly different if Rafa could stay healthy.

toni must be really ticked...was also asked about french open favorites and he said rafa and novak and ferrer and delpo and others i believe...not fed

will be interesting to see how rafa responds, he's putting some pressure on his charge here...of course it will really ratchet up when/if they play again

No need whatsoever for Toni Nadal to make those remarks! How can he even know how much pain somebody is in!? Fed was clearly in pain at the end of his match against Dodig, didn't look right against Stan and looked even worse against Rafa.

Injury isn't an excuse for losing though. Tennis at the professional level is as much about fitness as technique. Roger's back, Rafa's knees, Novak's allergies etc. should never be excuses for losing. When Roger beats Rafa it's because he's the better player on the day and when Rafa beats Roger it's because he's the better player on the day. Simple as. There's absolutely no need for Toni Nadal to take a cheap shot at Roger like that.

If this is true, why did his own nephew, Rafa, ask Fed if he was okay at the end of the match?

Why is he known as Humbalito?

He knows that excessive celebration will make the Fed-oriented media hate him.

Toni, being an older and more cynical man, does not mind poking fun at Federer.

Privately though, uncle and nephew must be laughing at Fed.

I don't understand why Toni is so bitter towards Roger. May be he is jealous of Roger's accomplishments.

Significantly more pain? I'd love to hear which those supposed matches are? Tio Toni showing his true colours I suppose.

what a close contest between tio, papa and junior for the title of the most admirable person in the known universe...

It's not a close contest, Nadal asked Fed if he was OK at the net.

I don't believe Toni would **** Fed like this. He has the utmost respect for Fed and has repeatedly referred to him as GOAT.

Yet in his 19 wins over Fed this is the only in which he did that (asked Fed if he was OK at the net).

Because the story line is that they were both injured (according to Fed). Before the match, Fed said they were both going in tentative and how they used to meet only in finals before, as if he had some authority to speak about Nadal. The picture he was trying to paint was of 2 heroes past their prime facing off, though only one is past his prime. His attempts at bromance are not convincing, and Toni can see right through them.

Yes, but according to you Fed does that all the time (it's a pattern):

So I ask again, why is out of his 19 wins over Fed this the only one in which he asked Fed if he was OK at the end of the match?

We have 2 obvious options here:

1) It isn't a pattern with Fed (injury excuses for losing)

2) Nadal thought Fed was genuinely injured (hence the question he posed).

Here's the link to the full interview in Spanish. Google translate it if you don't read Spanish...

Some really weird answers throughout the interview (to add to the answers regarding Federer's back problems).

Toni needs to be careful with his choice of words. Federer is 5 years older than his nephew and has been playing on the tour for far longer with many more matches under his belt.
How many pro tennis matches did Toni play again for him to judge anybody about injuries? How many years did he play on the tour and how many 4-5 hour wars was he in?
And also, Federer and Nadal don't have similar injuries. Federer's problem is his back, Nadal's problem is his knees.
Different circumstances.

It was funny seeing Toni's reaction when Djokovic was making a comeback on his nephew at RG last year. Nadal's topspin was negated by the dampened courts and Toni was furious that play was allowed to resume under such conditions only because the conditions didn't suit his nephew whereas Djokovic had absolutely no problems with the surface.
Toni made a personal insult towards the referee as they walked by each other at the staircase.
Dare I say it, Toni really is nothing more than a little b**** when things don't go completely his way. Having temper tantrums like a little kid. Wishing injuries on other players who beat up on his nephew. What a clown!
I wish Nadal would drop him.

There are 2 possibilites. Either Nadal is a wimp who has a slight "uncomfortable" pain that allows him to play 100% but still he has to cry about it every single time or he's a fraud and consistent liar.

Doesn't matter what you think. He will always win, and that is what matters.

No he won't, and he will keep on winning because of his help. It is the losers who will have to keep coming up with excuse strategies.

Nadal isn't a wimp. Much of his injuries are genuine as we have seen instances where he had major pain (against Murray at Rotterdam). But there's a safe little cushion ready in case he loses so they can also blame injuries for losses.

Since when does "we're both injured" means "both past our prime".

That was YOUR wishy-washy conniving leap, not Fed's.

Which means YOU must have thought at some recent point that the Spanish ass your head is surrounded with, was past his prime.

You are not reading. The past the prime was inferred from a statement he made that they used to meet in finals, and now the meet in quarterfinals.

But guess what? Nadal did go to the finals and win!

Uncle Toni is a scumbag, anyone who has read Rafa's autobiography knows what I am talking about. The stories of borderline child abuse (and I'm sure there were worse which weren't published) as well as his many snide remarks over the years are enough to show me his true character. It was obvious that Federer's movement and serving was greatly hindered, he hasn't been inside Nadal or Fed's body to say otherwise.

Even Rafa has said that his team has a "more positive" feeling without his Uncle...Credit to Rafa for not turning out like his scumbag uncle.

My favourite story is when Nadal and one of his tennis buddies were playing a video game and Toni charged into the room and tore out the plug, telling them to keep the noise down.
Nadal being half a man just took it instead of standing up and drilling fat Toni's face in with a right hook.

Apart from Indian Wells aided by a broken back Federer and Del Potro being on his last legs, how many off-clay titles has Nadal won since October 2010, again?

If it wasn't for clay he would be out of the top 10 by now.

It's a case of an adult being bullied by another adult. Anybody who read Nadal's book knows what the deal is. Nadal was bullied by Toni all his life and just took it. The bullying wasn't even related to tennis. Nadal just takes it because he's a b*tch in the face of his Uncle.

Well it's a serious question, and met with silence. They say that speaks volumes, but I'll give Sureshs the benefit of the doubt that although he has posted since my question, he hasn't yet seen it.

I can't imagine why he wouldn't want to answer the question. It's genuine.
