How do you change the Volkl's grip shape to a regular grip? Does Volkl sells some accessory to change this?

Simply build up the raw handle beneath the pallet w. some tape at the sides but not top or bottom. The more tape, the squarer the grip becomes and the bevels are perfectly preserved.

Additionally, it was confirmed that the final swingweight of this frame will be 315. Mine swings a little more than that, which is normal for a prerelease frame from Volkl.

I've spent significant time with this frame now, and it's very impressive in all respects. It's got a nice amount of power for a 18 mains flexy frame, doesnt give you the 18 mains boardy feel at reasonable tension, the sweetspot is generous for an 18mains, and no problem making any type of spin with this frame. The grip shape is def squarer, and the feel is more homogenous than the first generation of dnx frames and is very comfortable. I can see this frame replacing the dnx10mp...it's a little more of everything and a really nice hit.

You seem to be enjoying the BB11 pretty well, do you plan to move onto it from the DNX 10?

Thats what I am thinking provided the final swingweight is no more than 315. Alternatively, there is the Becker11 Lite coming out which should be very customizable and those could be setup optimally for me. I'm having trouble adjusting to the squarer grip on the serve, so would also change the grip to regular Volkl shape. In the meantime, I am playing the dnx10mp's well as my main squeeze, altho leather and my normal string setup makes them slightly too much swingweight. The ball feel of the Becker11 is really nice...it's a bit brighter, crisp, and less vague than the 10series Volkls and this refinement of the dnx material really makes a difference..it's also a pretty high impact frame for an 18mains flexy bat..kind of old school and new school all mixed up..just like me :)

NBMJ, you've got me a bit intrigued here. I've been using the Fischer MSpeed since last September, and the grip shape is really bothering me here in this NC heat. I can't seem to grip the stick at all. Is this new Volkl grip shape similiar?? It still has the build up towards the butt cap correct? I've never liked the beam shape of the MSpeed and am just becoming more and more annoyed with the grip. I have used every kind of overgrip/replacement grip I could think of.

I seem to be in the market for a new stick again....

I think I'm going to be depressed for a while.

seems like b11 has similar SW with dnx9? hope it has bigger sweetspot.....

it's more..i think the dnx9 is around 310sw. It is easier to flush hit than the dnx9 if strung at mid range or lower.

Hang on to your axe ;) Can't you just do a Kafelnikof and wrap a bunch of tape around the butt and build your own butt cap? Yes, the butt of the Becker11 is very much the same as the reg Volkl..the grip shape is the only thing i feel is different

That's actually my next move...

I've demoed a few sticks just to hit with them over the past two months and I can't shake the MSpeed. I'll still look foward to demoing the new Becker's. Thanks!

Sweet. I do plan on demoing the BB11 regular and also the new V1. I remember in another thread that you were not so keen on using the Radical line of racquets. How would you compare your BB11 or DNX 10 or 18X20 frames you hit with compared to the Radical line of racquets besides being harder to spin and the low hot spot (referring to the Radical)? Anyway, I would like to say kudos to you for a promising comment on the BB11 (can't wait to try that sucker, haha), also I would also like to thank you for creating a DNX 10 Mid thread last year, which unfortunately had to go through many tribulations, and they review is pretty spot on about the nice ball feel and sweetspot. I was actually planning to go to a bigger headsize like the n6.1 or anything similar to that, but after mentioning about how the DNX 10 Mid had a bigger sweetspot, I tried it, loved it, and still using it. Hope things go down in AI and enjoy your ketel1.

P.S. Like your sig.

Hi..i think you just described the Radical series compared to other 18x20's pretty well. The only other 18x20's I've hit recently are the kTeam and nBlade, and both of those were easier to spin and had a more predictable stringbed than the Rads

Glad I was able to help hook you up with the dnx10Mid..that's one sweet frame, and very user friendly for a mid.

I do remember the thread when the dnx10mid came out. the same people kept destroying it with their ignorant creepy selfs, the mods would delete the thread, a new one would be created, and that one woul be deleted. later..rinse...repeat ;) A fellow poster kept the content before it was deleted and ended up pasting it into yet aother thread..quite bizarre

Thanks for the good wishes..all is great down here

NBMJ, not sure if this was asked somewhere else as well but here goes. I have been REALLY impressed by this DNX 10 MID having a sweetspot generous like the POG MP without the huge open stringpattern. With that said, any word if the BB line will feature a Mid in the lineup? Hopefully the DNX line will be around a while as I think it's the best lineup available from any brand. The finish on these racquets reminds me of my fine handmade bicycle which cost upwards of 5K.

Scott right? I doubt they will do a mid. Volkl has been keeping just one in their lineup, and some companies keep none in their lineup. I dont see them dropping the dnx10Mid ..it's just too good of a frame. ..likely the MP instead. If you think they did a good job with the DNX material in the reg DNX line, wait until you see how they evolved it in this Becker11...precision. Agree about the finish...top notch.
Dont leave that bicycle out anywhere that I can find it ;) Talk about paintjobs....Lance's Trek isnt even a Trek right? It's a Litespeed or something like that?

Thanks for the reply. The DNX 10 is definately a sweet one. I haven't hit with the MP as I didn't think the 18X20 would be the direction I am looking to go although I may have missed out. The DNX 10 MID just felt so right after a week or so hitting with it that I didn't want to put it down. Not sure how some guys are finding the swingweight a problem as I find it swings nicely. Feels more like the mid 320's and not as high as some might think. Now, the one i've been swinging has Sensation 16g in it. I have KLIP Legend coming to hybrid in it with ISO so i'm curious what that is going to feel like. The Sensation (which I have never really used) has felt really nice and soft in it so hopefully the gut hybrid will as well. Trying to stay away from the poly strings as everytime I like a frame I slip poly in it and end up find it too harsh. Hopefully the Legend/Iso hybrid will have minimal movement to save my string life and have the sweet feel I have had so far in it. The color they are using on these DNX 10 frames is really nice to. Not quite gold, not quite yellow. I'll add leather on the next one coming to try that out as well (just wish TW still had the leather Volkl grips as they were my favorite man!).

Is there any stretch needed with the Iso Pro? I normally start at mid plus two which is where the first one i'm using is strung at. I may bump it up one extra pound with the gut string job?

Scott, the Iso comes prestetched so dont prestretch, but they suggest upping the tension by 10% because the tension dumps and then locks. I've found this to be true. The Legend gut would get a gentle prestretch only <no prestetch is better on this string than a vigorous one>. Cant advise you on the tension so much because I dont know if you want to take advantage of the extra work on the ball this setup will give you. As a guess you may like 57-58 m's and 62 x's assuming you are putting the Iso in as x's. You may wish to wax the mains top and bottom before stringing the x's because the string is very grabby at those places when you pull the x's.

NBMJ, what type of wax is best for this? Does the wax just come off in the first couple of hits, or are you supposed to wipe it off? Thanks.

I use canning wax which you can find in a grocery store. i just leave it on..it doesnt hurt anything. you may wish to clean any residue from your clamps periodically

NBMJ,

I play with a C10 Pro and I've just purchased a DNX10MP to try (I'm looking forward to trying the Becker 11-295). I thought I might try the Klip Legend and/or the Klip Legend and IsoPro combination on the C10 Pro and the DNX10. I'm not very knowledgable on strings. What would be the reason to use the Klip/Iso setup versus full Legend?

On the C10, I like to string a couple of pounds under the mid. What would you recommend on the Klip/Iso? Also, I saw above that the Iso comes pre-streched. I use a Klippermate stringer. How would you recommend I stretch the Legend?

Sorry for so many questions, but thanks for your help.

No problem. I almost always suggest people change only one variable at a time, so best to start with the same relative tension you usually use since you are changing the string, otherwise you wont be able to tell if the tension diff or the string diff is causing the diff more. Seems as though people change strings by adjusting them to play like the string they are changing from, and I wonder what the use is of even changing is then. Also I dont know what string you are changing from.
As to prestretching, there are a few ways and there is a dirth of info on prestretching in the strings section. If unsure, dont prestretch the Legend at all. As to why I like the Legend/Iso hybrid over straight gut, there are several reasons to like it better
-less expensive
-strings lock
-you get a bit of the poly type of spin where the bottom falls out of the shot before going long
-it's a bit less powerful so you dont have to string as tightly to get control
-the durability is much better presumably because the strings dont slide around if strung at a moderate or higher tension
-still get really goo ball feel

NBMJ,

I didn't think to mention my current string. Right now, I'm using the LaserFibre SuperNatural Phenom XRC in a 17G. I like this string but I thought I might like to try something else.

I'll search for info on string streching. I'm not sure of the string length. With the Klip/Isp combo, will one package of Legend and one package of IsoPro string two racquets?

Thanks for the reply.

Miles, I'm with you on the built up butt cap. I took some replacement grip and wrapped around my MSpeed's cap and now it's perfect. If only it had a straight beam, which is not a big deal, I'm just a little strange.

NBMJ,

I just acquired couple DNX 9's.

1. What string setup and tension you recommend for DNX 9?

2. Looking at the picture of the BB 11, it looks like the DNX 9 minus the V-Engine; how different they play?

Normally, you would want to start out with your regular string and tension. The DNX9 (like most Volkls) will perform well at a wide tension range, and with a good variety of strings

They're reallly not very similar. see below

I would also be interested in the difference between the DNX 9 and the Becker 11.

The Becker11 is most similar to the 10series Volkls except they've got a different ball feel and a little more power. The DNX9 is one of those frames that is nimble and easier to swing than the Becker11 and hits a faster ball , but not a heavy ball like the Becker11. I think the Becker11 'feels' much better than the DNX9 in all respects

I havent hit the 295g one yet. Was talking about the 325g one

The BB 11

Sounds like a great frame.
I just want one so I can point to it and trot out a Spinal Tap line, "Yeah, but you see, this one goes to eleven."

Hhahah, for years Volkl's numerical nomenclature has gone to ten. I can't help but think Boris dug that line....either that or he is tennis' version of Spinal Tap.

After spending 6 weeks or so off and on w. the Becker11 I would agree with what you said. feels is subjective of course, but the ball feel is more rewarding with the B11 than the dnx9 for me as well. Was getting good results with the dnx9 and it doesnt tire me out, but The B11 does hit a nice heavy ball given good technique....it's got mass to it and you can feel the weight in the head of the one I have more than what you would think you should. I dont know if it is because I have a seed frame or because moving the dnx material from the inside of the frame to the outside makes you feel the head more. My serve was also jumping with the b11 with a smooth relaxed 75% effort. Anyway, super frame given good technique and if you can handle the specs and are a precision ball striker who can make all the spin you like.
Gave this frame today to a lesson who wanted to hit with it. She is a 4.5 and he a 4.0 and they both use the gen2 frame. They both struggled with it compared to their Gen2's and both did well with the DNX9. as for me, I'm a 5.0 and the Becker11 benefitted me more than the Gen2 from the power standpoint and also I hit a heavier ball with it and had an easier time flattening balls out. They werent precise enough ball strikers to handle a frame like this with 18m's and the SW was too high for them.
I have a Becker11Light on the way and am anxious to take that one to the prom. Obviously lighter and 16mains. I'll post something when I do

NBMJ -

I noticed in another thread you're using either full Excelerator or Legend + Excelerator

How does this compare to the Legend + Iso Pro combo?

With the scarcity of the Iso Pro is the legend + Excelerator a decent substitute?

I really like the Legend + Iso Pro but the ISO Pro is getting hard to find.

Hi Wally. That must have been a very old thread. I went from Excellerator as a cross to IsoPro as a cross string many moons ago. I like the Iso cross much better, and it is getting harder to find as you say. If you know someone who can buy from the wholesaler in PA, they carry it.

Hi..I dont have one..any moment now. They didnt do a pre release on this frame.
The color is different than the becker website indicates....where it is orange in the standard one, it is black on the 295. and the silver dnx is orange
Yes, the pallets are interchangeable..<the becker series uses a different pallet> so i assume the butt caps as well can be interchanged, although the buttcap may not be a perfect fit

Been reading with great interest - decided to join in. I own a Tour 10 MP, Q Tour 10, Tour 10 Gen II, and a DNX 10 MP, all strung with Gamma Pro 17 from 53 to 58 #. Love them all. Play recreational doubles in FL and alternate racquets each week. Like meeting an old friend every 4 weeks! If I had to pick one racquet to use for the rest of time it would probably be the Gen II simply because it volleys so well. Do I need to add a BB 11 to the collection or is it too much racquet for an old guy?

Bb11 295g

Bigger sweetspot than DNX 10 295g.
More power than DNX 10 295g
More stable than DNX 10 295g after adding overgrip and a dampener,
weight around 11.2 oz. now
Grip/handle shape is almost similar to Head.

Good for my elbow and arms. Tennis elbow disappeared
after two weeks using BB11 295g.

I will be using this racquet for long time.
