Was the Nadal/Djokovic match the only mens match played under the roof?

The entire tournament I don't recall seeing 1 mens match under the roof at all. Bad luck for Rafa and a terrible rule. Match should have been started with the roof open as they weren't going to be able to finish it anyways. Better yet it should have started the next day to keep it "an outdoor tournament" since it couldn't finish as it were.

Well I disagree completely. The roof is there for a good reason, even if it isn't always used the same amount each year.

If only there was no roof so if Nadal was losing, the rain could have suspended the match for an indefinite period of time, just enough for him to regroup before it resumes.

It’s literally the first rule on their website

It's an outdoor event unless you are trying to stop Nadal from winning number 18.

A. It should have started outdoors as there was enough light to start it. B. The following day in 80 degree sun it should have been open without a doubt. Rafas 18th slam was stolen from him.

But it was (a) raining (b) getting dark when they closed the roof

No, it wasn’t raining at that time, but there was a chance it might. Of course they started the match 9pm, so it was going to be dark.
Considering it’s a day time outdoor tournament, the match should’ve been postponed to the next day. And even if they started that day and continued next day, roof should have been opened considering it was bright and sunny outside. “Same conditions” rule is a turdpile let’s be honest. There are never the same conditions even during the course of any regular match

It was light when it started. And the next day is a completely different deal. No reason it should have been under the roof at the start or the next day.

If it has to be played under the same conditions don't ever close it mid match then.....

The roof wasn't closed mid match, it was closed from the beginning. And it's pretty hilarious wanting the match to start on the next day when it was still over two hours until the curfew. Hating indoor conditions that much, VB?

Let it go. You could have a point if Djokovic won the match easy, maybe you could think it would be a closer match without the roof. But come on. Nadal had more than enough chances to win the match but he simply missed them, and it had nothing to do with the roof. You can't blame the roof for Nadal not hitting a good serve when he had a setpoint on serve in the third set. The roof didn't force Nadal to rush the net when he had a break point in the fifth set. Last year there was no roof and yet he made the same stupid mistake against Muller. It's at the very least funny to look for excuses in this match.

Was 80 degree sun the angle?

How many threads are going to be created about the roof? They played the match the entire time under the roof so what's the big deal? The tournament is over.

Still going on about this? I thought there is nothing to discuss.

When Earth's Mightiest says Federer is going to play on Court 1, Federer is going to play on Court 1.
When Earth's Mightiest says Nadal is going to play under the roof, Nadal is going to play under the roof.

:p

I think until Nadal beats Djokovic off clay such threads will be created.Which means this will go for a long time

If Nadal won this match would you have made this noise about the match being indoors. No of course. The match was very close,Nadal had chances to win it.He had a lot of BP in the 5th set but couldnt convert them.Just accept the loss and move on.

Wow still can't get over it? Jesus.

lol they will never get over it.

Like 6 different points Nadal could've won to more than likely take the championship.

Having said that, they can't really complain since everything went in Nadal's favour most of the tournament.

I think it was 2-3 points that decided the winner of the match. If there is a match where it could have gone EITHER WAY, this is the one. Their stats was scarily identical. But Djokovic made it out alive in the end thanks to his serve.

The rules are really simple. No one complained about it before, only now when the "wrong" guy won. Tradition or not, seems perfectly logical that if a match starts under the roof it should finish that way, cause outdoor vs Indoor is vastly different. You don't want the same match to be played under two totally different conditions. That's logical to anyone but the v amos brigade.

It has gone more than a week since the match unfolded and here we are still discussing it. Djokovic won the match, that's it. It's not his fault that he is a more versatile player than Nadal making indoors for him an advantage. But considering how the match was, it didn't look like Djokovic had an advantage. Nadal was perfectly fine under the conditions.

Nadal hasn’t beaten Nole off clay since the 2013 USO. I don’t think the roof is the issue.

In any case it was a very close match. I’m sure there will be other opportunities for Nadal to beat Nole.

Until Ned is considered to be the GOAT Ned and his fans with beetch about everything

Sou can expect this to continue forever

You do realize that there was no point in starting the match with the roof open considering they only had like an hour of daylight left on Friday. The closed roof gave them an additional 2 hours or something of play.

If they started the match with the open roof and the match went the same way they would've played more than 4 hours on Saturday with the final still being played on Sunday.

So please remain butthurt over a decision which was perfectly understandable for everyone except butthurt Nards. You should be grateful that Nadal even reached the SF at Wimbledon considering what happened in 2012-2017.

At least he didn't just skip the match and say nevermind since it's my worst surface like fed does.....
Don't bet against that happening in 2-3 years. Fed played clay regularly when he was at the age Nadal is now.

Really, some of you are still disappointed with the roof?

You may call it bad luck, though it's the rule. Don't forget Rafa could habe been beaten at RG12 if the referee let the match continue under that light rain.

Seriously? The roof?

Nadal faced breakpoints in 11/29 service games = 39%
Djokovic faced breakpoints in 6/30 service games = 20%

That kind of differential is terminal.

Was that the roof's fault too?

You don't hear Federer fans crying about Court 1 like all of you did last year. I think it's hilarious that Roofgate didn't even involve Federer this time. Everything has to be absolutely perfect for Rafa or all hell breaks loose.

Federer fans all over social media and some on here cried about Court 1. You must be joking.

Actually, they did. Fed fans belabored the point over and over again. That said, roof or no roof, there are rules and I did not hear Rafa himself whining about it. He only mentioned it when he was repeatedly pressed for a response during his presser.

His fans make sure everyone knows how he got screwed whether he says anything or not.
