It's a bit ridiculous how much money they're earning, especially Mac considering how much smaller the prize money was back then.

Also, I thought Fed was almost a billionaire?

The reality is, we have no idea how much money these guys have. The Nadal clan has several businesses and a bunch of real estate, for the other guys it's probably similar.
Yeah that's why these are very rough estimates. Chances are, they're probably worth a lot more as who knows how many privately owned businesses, real estate or stocks they might have outside their tennis careers which is already lucrative enough

Well this is just his net worth, but I thought I read something about him making over $900 million from his brand, winnings and endorsements throughout the years

But Safin and Dimitrov had more personal satisfaction as had Bouchard on ladies side.

Ion Tiriac: some income stems from ties with organized crime, car theft mafia, working with Caucesku's genocidal regime...

But let's not go there...

There was a German TV documentary about him, many years ago... It probably got banned/deleted after airing...

Thanks to Ian Tiriac and his bribes, winning Stuttgart brought almost (relatively speaking) as many points as a slam, back in the early 90s...

The man is a menace.

He hobnobbed with Romania's Commie regime, hunted bears with Caucescu and his thugs (i.e. was very close with these people), which to me all by itself says everything, made money from stolen cars (one of his mafia connections), I can't recall the other things mentioned in the film. This was aired in the 90s. He'd always been a very controversial figure.

It was aired on ARD or ZDF, if I'm not mistaken. Those are considered serious channels. Or were.

Which either tells you something about capitalism or about being popular. Either way, philosophers differ in opinion.
Different spending habits? Better/worse investment strategies?

These numbers entail a lot more than just "popularity" and prize money.

Becker made tons of money, but he's bankrupt. So is/was Arantxa Sanchez. Ditto Borg.

I watched ZDF alot but not for documentaries in friday nights.
Becker was in with Tiriac back then. I think it is why boris has those determined to see him banged up sadly

Tiriac snatched Becker when he was only 15 or 16, what the hell did he know about Ion, he was just happy to have a powerful financier and mentor... But later on he must have found out - and probably decide not to care.

However, when the two split there was bad blood. There is always bad blood between Becker and anyone he is no longer friendly with...

Rafa lives in Spain officially and pays not only their much higher income tax but also potentially a 2.5% yearly tax on his entire wealth above ~10 million euro. Spain is one of the very few countries to keep a wealth tax.

Whereas Novak relocated his fortune to a tax haven as far as I know. It’s very possible Rafa has paid more in taxes than the difference between their fortunes.

Federer and Djokovic definitely have offshores lol I mean why else would Rog have real estate in Dubai and Nole in Monte Carlo. Obviously, they aren’t the only ones as several other top players surely have assets, accounts, and residence in tax-free places like Florida and the Bahamas as well.

Was the blue clay his doing?

The way Ion Tiriac ran his Madrid Tournament on Blue clay kind of sums him up as a person and businessman. Blue clay was far more expensive to produce than procuring high quality proper clay, and was hated by most of the players. But Tiriac is happy to overspend for inferior court surface for all the media focus it created for his tournament. Free advertising - who cares how the players feel?

He runs the Madrid tournament like it's a circus sideshow. There's a new gimmick every few years and it's all done in very poor taste to get eyeballs on the tournament.

Federer earns/will earn 300 mil USD from his contract with Uniqlo alone, and even then that total figure seems to be on the lower side, considering his numerous contracts in his very long career. It was rumoured last year that he is about to crack the one billion mark, which is a lot more believable.

You beat me to it. I was going to mention his late 80's connections and types of JV projects he did, but there it is. I wonder how come he does not help Boris with all the money issues he has!??

Federer lives in Switzerland. It is the country where people from other countries move to save on taxes. His Dubai property is there for him to train during the winter, not to pay his taxes there.

Djokovic both lives in MC and is there for the tax benefits, but he pays taxes to the Serbian state for his operations there.

They weren't on friendly terms when they split. You don't just leave a mob boss and expect to remain friends.

The person who has calculated Rafa's net worth obviously doesn't know aything about Rafa's investments (restorans, hotels, tennis centres, real estate development, owns 33% of an investment company.)

I didn't vaguely attempt to spell it right. Way to wavy a name, with all those vowels swimming in random muck. Kinda like the more adventurous French words.

Well, Romanian diacritics are anyway complex for people that are not native, so it's understandable.
Yes, they have all these vowels. Being a Serb, I am more versed in having too many consonants. So French and Romanian became a real handful.

Did you know there was a Serbian word that has SIX consonants strung together? ALL of them get pronounced, just so you don't think it's cheating...

I don't understand Serbian language well, but I like to listen some serbian music from time to time ( Dragana Mirkovic, Lepa Brena or Alexandra Prijovic) :D

Which one of our words is that? Because we shouldn't be counting "r" as a consonant, it's a vowel in Serbian.
