What’s your string times?

I'm shocked you'd partake in such blatantly illegal activities like placing a dampening device there.
Like the guy told me if anyone complains he‘ll take it out and tie one below the bottom cross. Even though we all know it is an illegal placement of a dampener I doubt it gives him an advantage. He said no one he has played has ever said anything.

if you like a muted stringbed give it a try. Better at dampening the string bed that anything else I’ve seen.

I must admit I took a double take when I saw the IID (Irvin Illegal Dampener/Damper). I was shocked, I say, shocked to see that Irvin had turned to illegal activities. But then again, maybe the post was cathartic for the guilt he is living with.

This will be reported and removed (as my post the other day was). Panties in a wad, and diarrhea of the keyboard.

For my own racquets PS 97 RF I can do one in 25-30 min on average which includes cutting old and to finished product.

For any other racquet I would add 5-10 min. For 18x20 with shapes/rough thick gauge I would add another 5 min.

It varies widely for me depending on what tennis match I have playing on the laptop at the time.
I use a #65 rubber band, tho, as I find them easier to tie.

I usually take about an 1:15 from cut out to racquttune logging. But I string For myself and family and take my time and double check stuff and don’t really have a need to rush. Today my son asked me to string a racquet with a broken string before a match that he had to leave for and got it all done in 45 mins.

I am anywhere from 45mins to 1 hour+. Just depends on
what else i have going on. My last rac was a Prince 0 port and
using the 50/50 method took me just over 1 hour of stringing time.

That's on a Stringway ml 100

I have done 2 frames total, and I average 2 hours per frame for now .......... ok, the 2nd frame was for my brother so I took lots of care (excess of confidence on the first frame and I missweaved...). and I struggle on a lot of things, like :

- get the right length for strings : I started to log things, b.c. I was short on the crosses for my first frame (16x19), I wonder if it is possible to do a 2 piecies 18x20 with a single set (and a drop weight)
- get the fixed clamps tuned correctly, i.e. no slippage -I did get it sadly - and no ghosting on multi (maybe it's not possible ?) : that's quite a sport to find the sweet tuning of the clamps ! I did not find a howto video by the way, explaining some technique to get the correct clamp gripping force without hurting the string (pull tension directly against clamp ? I doubt it)
- plan ahead for tight tieoff locations - babolat aeropro - ......... and thanks @Irvin for your very useful videos ! (so I did not have to do a knot from the underside)

The easiest way I've found to measure the strings is to measure from head to throat, the number of mains + 1/2 a main. For crosses, I measure about 16-17 feet off my table. Haven't ended short yet.

If you’re stringing an 18x20 with a set of string do not cut the set in half. Use a short side long enough to reach the tensioner after stringing all the mains. How long that is will depend on the stiffness of the string and the head size. After stringing the mains you will have a long section of string you cut off one side. Use a starting knot and that piece of string to string the crosses and you will be fine. It may be a good idea to keep a log of the head size, number of mains, number of crosses, string stiffness, and required length to determine how long your string should be. Stringing a 16x19 600 cm^2 racket with a soft string will require less string than an 18x20 800 cm^2 racket with a stiff string.

A DW usually takes about 16” of string to wrap around the tensioner (unless you have a linear gripper or a starting clamp.) if the mains end at the throat you can save a few inches of string by mounting the racket lower on the machine so the string from the frame in throat is closer to the tensioner on the short side main and the bottom cross. Enjoy stringing

Once I got my clamps pretty dialed in, I marked them with a small piece of tape. When the piece of tape is at 12 o'clock, that's set correctly for my usual 17g poly at usual tensions. Then I can adjust accordingly for thinner/thicker gauge strings, or if I need more clamping strength due to high tensions or super slippery string. But with some multis at higher tension, I find ghosting to be unavoidable.

You can definitely do 18x20 with a dropweight on a single set of string, though it can be a tight squeeze depending on the racket and what string/tension you're using. I've definitely had to use a starting clamp as a bridge when I didn't get the string lengths exactly right on an 18x20. And preserving a long, side as @Irvin suggested, works very well. Tying a knot with 20 feet of excess string can be weird if you're not super comfortable with knots though.

I run right at 15 minutes a frame unless I rush. If you are talking about complete process, (enter data, print labels, removes string, string, bag, etc.) Around 17.

Thanks Irvin. I am fine. The chimney got scared and decided to jump for it but face planted into the roof before hitting the patio. Roofers already fixed it. I was super fortunate. Lots of people just got power today. I think I had mine on Thursday.

What’s interesting to me is that not everyone use the Diabolo...whether if that’s right or wrong. For those who skips, why?

Babolat Pure Strike 18x20 Lux ALU Power 125 @59#

Remove old label
Clean and disinfect frame
Remove strings - Total time 3:12

Turn on machine
Mount frame
Measure 37’ (16 racket lengths + 1 foot) string - Total running time 4:20

String and tie off mains - Total ruining time 12:20

String and tie off crosses - Total running time 27:18

Dismount frame
Double check for misweaves and crossovers
Final straightening of strings
Label and record job - Total running time 28:00

It takes me longer to weave in a rubber band than it does to weave a cross. This client used to tie in a #64 rubber band until I started weaving it in for him.

....except that now the vibration dampener is now in the "field" of the strings and therfore the racket is not legal for USTA competition. You can only have dampeners OUTSIDE the field of woven cross strings. Looks very cool though - but it's not legal. Sorry.

What is there to be sorry about? I’m not playing with it the the client knows the consequences. When he asked for it I told him the ITP ITF rules. His answer was if someone complains I’ll cut it out, no big deal. I hate any kind of dampener Or muted strings.

I would assume you meant the ITF rules regarding placement of a dampener.

It only becomes an issue if it is spotted by an Official or an Opponent. Otherwise, it is of no consequence.

And even if it is noticed ... the Officiating process involves ... 1/ Warning and request to remove. If that is ignored, then 2/ Code Violation Process.

So in most cases, worst thing that will happen is a Warning and request to remove.

Reminds me of the George Brett pine tar incident.

Ha Ha. Being Australian, I had to google that one up.

In 1983, the only Baseballers most Aussies had ever heard of were Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Don Drysdale.

Babe Ruth through his association with Sir Donald Bradman
Jolting Joe thanks to Marilyn Monroe and Simon & Garfunkel.
Mickey Mantle thanks to "Remington Steele" (huge in Australia)
and Don Drysdale thanks to Greg Brady and "The Brady Bunch", of course! (Brady Bunch also introduced us Aussies to Joe Namath!)

The pine tar incident is reminiscent of the Dennis Lillie Aluminium Cricket Bat incident which most older fans of the sport of Cricket would be well aware of.

Well I couldn't resist:
16x19 ATW synthetic gut on a lockout. Total time 28 minutes.
Including cutting, measuring string, mounting, stringing, measuring results and logging.

Have to admit I feel pretty pleased with myself since I only started stringing in January. :D

Worst time for me was ~2 hours. Most of the time spent finding the tools (Awl, clamp, pliers etc.)
I have a terrible 2 at home. He would take tools from tool tray and disappear.
Once he gets the tool, it is tough to get it back unless a replacement is given that he likes to play with.

I usually wait for my terrible 2/3 goes to bed, then I just got the wife to deal with while stringing. Lol
