Don’t apologize, it’s your opinion. I just disagree and certainly not the truth. I am an avid movie fan. My taste in movies is extremely vast. Liking one genre doesn’t mean you have a low IQ just means you like what you like. I’m just not one for judging others because of what type of moves they enjoy.

Again you're unlikely to see a better film this whole year. Go see it, and spread the word if Kubrick's masterpiece is also playing in your area.
Back to the present. Saw The Cakemaker yesterday (after Bergman's It Rains on Our Love), a feature debut by Israeli newcomer Ofir Raul Grazier. First, the actors: Sarah Adler is just as superb as the widow Anat as she was in Foxtrot (another Israeli production), and Tim Kalkhof, a name completely new to me, keeps up with her every step of the way as the conflicted Thomas whose dark secret carries him from his structured life as a baker in Berlin to Anat's own cafe in Jerusalem and eventually into her inner sanctuary, with inevitably horrible consequences. Now the director: Grazier shows much promise in his debut, especially in his use of ellipses which in lesser hands would come across as zealous overcompensation by an upstart, but his refusal or inability to deal head-on with those consequences keeps his film from approaching greatness. Still it's a shame that this worthy effort has enjoyed a limited theatrical run only so far. Check your local listings, or better yet push your local theater for new/additional screen time.
Heh, a bit too harsh, but not too far off the mark. Hollywood should indeed be ashamed of themselves, to think so low of their audience who BTW may well be a lot smarter (Get Out among recently examples didn't do half bad at the box office) than they think.

Saying "low iq adult" to the people who love to watch Marvel movies are rather insulting. It would be better if you put it saying " good for just passing time". I agree that many Marvel movies and some other action movies don't make sense most of times but it is fun to watch.

I was going to skip this one, but since Jason Kohn's recent Nick Bollettieri documentary (hat tip to Moose) seems to share similar themes let me give a guarded thumbs-up to Kevin Macdonald's latest doc Whitney which opened last weekend. I didn't care for the film's occasionally annoying pretensions - its various flashbacks to Houston's blockbuster hits are sprinkled with visual references to the most significant contemporaneous events of the '80s and the '90s, with garbled audio thrown in for good measure - but its elucidation of the trappings of success and fame is at the very least equal and often superior to that of Asif Kapadia's Oscar-winning Amy. Plus it drops a bombshell about the possible main cause of its subject's untimely end which complicates the machination even further. (Let's just say the Houston family matriarch and Whitney's mother Cissy wasn't exactly happy about it.)
The Academy eats up these what-killed-star-() stories and Macdonald's is a virtual shoo-in for next year's documentary noms. I just hope the inevitable plaudits won't come about for the wrong reasons. The audience I was part of seemed to agree: though largely black and women outnumbered men I'd say it was a pretty diverse crowd.
Haven't seen the Carpenter original but I thought its 2005 remake was tastefully done. Was the bloodbath really that bad?

Solid drama-slash-black-comedy that concerns sorrow, guilt, anger and revenge. Frances McDormand obviously swam in a sea of awards for her leading role in this one, which is understandable as she does a splendid job with a complex character. Other good performances as well, and a generally well-written movie. Some parts/elements of the film border on the parodical, but overall I found it well worth watching.

Yeah it's not so much about low IQ,there are some very smart people who love Marvel movies,it's more about not knowing any better. Unless you live in a big city,you will see very few of the best movies of each year on the big screen and won't hear much about them either so some work has to be done to discover quality stuff. Work that most people are not inclined to do...
Watched Strokes Of Genius,the new doco centered on the Fed-Nadal Wimbledon '08 final. Enjoyable,but didn't shed too much light on it for me. Would be more beneficial for the casual tennis/sports fan I think...

A combination of horror, Sci-Fi monster, suspense thriller. About a family surviving day to day in a USA overrun with monsters who hunt by sound hence the film title. How the monsters were able to overrun the USA with it's military power isn't explained or it was all too brief and I missed it. Did I enjoy it? I liken it to only being given a taster dish of something tasting delicious at a restaurant. The film was too short for me at 90 minutes so not long enough to be engrossed.

Toni Erdmann. A quirky comedy-drama about a rather estranged father–daughter relationship. Solid acting by the two leads. Slow-paced. A kind of heavy-handed, existential flavor of humor that no one does quite like the Germans. Das ist komisch. It was rated the best film of 2016 by the seminal Cahiers du cinéma.

First time I watched it. Remember hearing a lot about it in certain rap tunes. Yes, Mekhi Phifer has the winning smile. Cocaine dealers, betrayal etc. It was pretty good.

Movies are by and large a work of fiction that only exists in a make-believe alternate universe, so it's kinda strange to expect any movie to make any sense at all.

Btw im guessing you haven't seen 'Suriya Paarvai' with Arjun in the lead role. It's the tamil remake of Leon. I found that out midway through Leon, lol.
