I realize this announcement is much too late, but today is your last chance to catch the 50th-anniversary screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey in its new 70-mm glory (supervised by Christopher Nolan himself), and if you're lucky to have a participating theater nearby you should make every effort to go see it. And I'm not just talking about the images: even the slightest labored breathing registers on your eardrums as in a horror flick, heightening the film's ever-present climate of doom and desolation, and the trippiest Ligeti-backed sequences are positively bone-chilling and ear-piercing (perhaps sometimes excessively so - I had to cover my ears at least twice). Suffice it to say not even the most sophisticated home video system could ever replicate the experience.
As for the film itself, 2001 has become such an institution any superlative is bound to feel superfluous, but let me add that while its Cold War politics may not have dated as well as Dr. Strangelove's perennially (if sadly) topical theme of nuclear annihilation, and though I'd probably still prefer its sibling A.I. if forced to pick, it's highly unlikely any film released this year could begin to approach the grand vision and metaphysical poetry of Kubrick's magnum opus - an all-encompassing meditation on the origin and history of mankind which, Arthur C. Clarke's cheeky remark aside, may well be the the greatest religious film ever made. Don't miss it.
A great majority of marvel movies are only good for teens and low iq adults.
Saying "low iq adult" to the people who love to watch Marvel movies are rather insulting. It would be better if you put it saying " good for just passing time". I agree that many Marvel movies and some other action movies don't make sense most of times but it is fun to watch.A great majority of marvel movies are only good for teens and low iq adults.
Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)
Modern Western. Was turned off by the violence then. Like Ft Apache, The Bronx
Shock value. Still prefer the originalI was going to skip this one, but since Jason Kohn's recent Nick Bollettieri documentary (hat tip to Moose) seems to share similar themes let me give a guarded thumbs-up to Kevin Macdonald's latest doc Whitney which opened last weekend. I didn't care for the film's occasionally annoying pretensions - its various flashbacks to Houston's blockbuster hits are sprinkled with visual references to the most significant contemporaneous events of the '80s and the '90s, with garbled audio thrown in for good measure - but its elucidation of the trappings of success and fame is at the very least equal and often superior to that of Asif Kapadia's Oscar-winning Amy. Plus it drops a bombshell about the possible main cause of its subject's untimely end which complicates the machination even further. (Let's just say the Houston family matriarch and Whitney's mother Cissy wasn't exactly happy about it.)
The Academy eats up these what-killed-star-() stories and Macdonald's is a virtual shoo-in for next year's documentary noms. I just hope the inevitable plaudits won't come about for the wrong reasons. The audience I was part of seemed to agree: though largely black and women outnumbered men I'd say it was a pretty diverse crowd.
Haven't seen the Carpenter original but I thought its 2005 remake was tastefully done. Was the bloodbath really that bad?
Spider-Man: Homecoming
I didn't like it, fell asleep halfway through lol everyone said it was good I disagree!!
People can watch whatever the fk they like.. its got nothing to do with iq.. its just entertainment...sorry but where you guys find the time for super-hero movies? those only lower your iq. i am done with this ****
I highly recommend you this movie:
The Wrestler: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1125849/
let the name of the movie not put you off!!!
Yeah it's not so much about low IQ,there are some very smart people who love Marvel movies,it's more about not knowing any better. Unless you live in a big city, you will see very few of the best movies of each year on the big screen and won't hear much about them either so some work has to be done to discover quality stuff. Work that most people are not inclined to do...Saying "low iq adult" to the people who love to watch Marvel movies are rather insulting. It would be better if you put it saying " good for just passing time". I agree that many Marvel movies and some other action movies don't make sense most of times but it is fun to watch.
Recall,A Quiet Place (2018)
spoilers ....
A combination of horror, Sci-Fi monster, suspense thriller. About a family surviving day to day in a USA overrun with monsters who hunt by sound hence the film title. How the monsters were able to overrun the USA with it's military power isn't explained or it was all too brief and I missed it. Did I enjoy it? I liken it to only being given a taster dish of something tasting delicious at a restaurant. The film was too short for me at 90 minutes so not long enough to be engrossed.
Meant Cape Fear????????? Never knew The Mist was a re-makeThat's the remake/reboot, watched it but felt the original was better. OTOH I liked the remake of Cape Cod starring De Niro far more than the Robert Mitchum original.

Same here, eat one meal/day, all dayOf course it was Cape Fear. Wait having dinner right now so I'll need to check if I'm confusing the film 'The fog' with the Mist,
Movies are by and large a work of fiction that only exists in a make-believe alternate universe, so it's kinda strange to expect any movie to make any sense at all.Saying "low iq adult" to the people who love to watch Marvel movies are rather insulting. It would be better if you put it saying " good for just passing time". I agree that many Marvel movies and some other action movies don't make sense most of times but it is fun to watch.
Been meaning to see this for over a year.Toni Erdmann. A quirky comedy-drama about a rather estranged father–daughter relationship. Solid acting by the two leads. Slow-paced. A kind of heavy-handed, existential flavor of humor that no one does quite like the Germans. Das ist komisch. It was rated the best film of 2016 by the seminal Cahiers du cinéma.
I watched it a while back (in 2014). What disturbing stuff did you read ? This is the one with Reno and Oldman, right ? I liked the movie, have written "good" in my log.Want to watch "Leon - The Professional". But I saw and read disturbing things about the movie on YouTube. Did anyone here watched the movie already?
Dude, it's a brilliant film. Give it a try. I'm guessing you are misinformed about the relationship between Reno and the 13 year old Natalie Portman? Fret not. It's been handled in the most appropriate manner.Want to watch "Leon - The Professional". But I saw and read disturbing things about the movie on YouTube. Did anyone here watched the movie already?
Yeah, that scene where she flirts with him.Dude, it's a brilliant film. Give it a try. I'm guessing you are misinformed about the relationship between Reno and the 13 year old Natalie Portman? Fret not. It's been handled in the most appropriate manner.
Btw im guessing you haven't seen 'Suriya Paarvai' with Arjun in the lead role. It's the tamil remake of Leon. I found that out midway through Leon, lol.
Haha, same here. I still remember that film, Arjun's obsession with that plant was hillarious.Yeah, that scene where she flirts with him.
I watched that Tamil movie like 16 or 17 years ago when I was 8 lol. Very well. I will watch it then.
Jurassic Park, one of my all time favorites.
