Whats the reasoning behind usta league prices

Ive never had a league be that much for 8 weeks of play, or at least i believe it is. No way to tell by looking at my email. Wish i could see whose in.

8 weeks of play for almost 50 cents!!!

What a joke!!

I would never pay more then 5 cents a week.

Not sure about the math there. But the $40 price for league seems reasonable to me. In many areas you will be traveling to all the nice tennis clubs and utilizing their prime court time for 5 bucks!

Sure if that is all you had to pay. But the reality you also have to cover court fees for your home courts, balls, possibly refreshments in some locales and gas costs. Some away matches can be an hour or more away. Also on the vast majority of teams you don't get to play every week. On a team with 15 players you will get about half the matches, maybe more if you are a strong player and always available. Trust me it doesn't come anywhere close to $5 a match.

Probably the same people that think winning $700 for a pro ITF event is enough to live on for traveling pros.

It is all relative. If you were use to paying $25 for 13-15 weeks and a sudden change in price to $40 for 8 weeks might not seem like such a great deal especially if there are viable alternatives that cost less. OTOH, if you were paying thousands a year for a private club because there was no other alternative to play tennis in your area, $40 may seem like a bargain.

It's still $5 a week. Which is nothing.
But then again Netflix increased their monthly price like $3 and people were ready to march in the streets.

Can't argue with that professional logic.

I will say just for giggles. Paying 1 buck after each of the first 5 games is not the same as paying 5 at 1 time.

I only want to possibly play in the state tourney, just not sure i could
play more than 4 times and I have to drive an hour to play on wednight
after already playing locally on mon, tues and thursday

did you not ask if you get a refund for any funds if you only play 3 or 4 weeks?

They might do it this way to encourage the right # of players to play doubles. It would suck for the rest of the people if there was 1-3 players short to fill a court.

Mine cost 31. I agree that it's a little odd that they vary from area to area. I just assumed it would be universal for each season. Oh well, I'm still not complaining. It's cheaper than a CC.

Just think about all the gas you will be paying for just to drive to your matches that you paid a whole $40 for! :?

I know people that have paid $50 a league per season (clay court) for their court fees. So if they play 18+ and 40+ league that's $100 just to be able to play at the facility their team is out of. Not including whatever they paid to play in the league.

People keep throwing out this $5/week figure as if that is the actual cost per match for playing a season of USTA. If my fees were $40, this would be my actual cost per match to play based on a recent season.

$40 fee league
$75 home court fee
$12 for balls
$60 gas

This totaled and divided by number of matches actually played (6)= $31 per match. Is that expensive? I guess it depends, but it is ridiculous to compare it to something like netflix.

I just finished up an 8.5 combo league in VA. We were at Districts this past weekend, and I asked our captain how much I owed him for the team entry fee. It turned out that this league has started subsidizing the Districts fees by charging everyone a bit more in their USTA league fee.

Of course, being on the winning team, I was fine w/ that. Can't say I'd feel the same way if we didn't win the league...

On a side note, Districts was held at the Wintergreen Resort. Here's what it looked like at the top of the mountain Friday morning:

It wasn't just the lob. At times you wouldn't see the ball until it cleared the net. Depth perception and judging the speed of the ball were pretty much non-existent. Definitely one for the books.
