Mcenroe Borg. The sole govt run channel in those days in India had Wimbledon as part of the rare tennis coverage we got. It all seemed so magical with the awesome setting of grass and and drew a lot of us to tennis

When I was a kid in the late 60s. My mother was a big Wimbledon fan (strangely not so keen in her later years) and for years I thought Wimbledon was the only tennis show in town (if you didn't play there you didn't exist for me)!

During Borg’s streak of French Opens and Wimbledons in the late Seventies - don’t remember exactly which year was my first televised match. But, I followed tennis news through newspapers and magazines before that ever since I started playing tennis in the mid-Seventies.

I don't remember exactly when. There wasn't much coverage, but years ago PBS used to televise tennis. I saw a few matches with John Newcombe and thought he was the cutest thing ever.. and I was hooked.

Remember World Tennis magazine. Received a can of Spalding balls every year. Worst balls ever

Wimbledon 2012, I remember the Federer vs Djokovic SF.. The commentators in my broadcast were talking about Nadal's loss and injury concerns rather than the match.. I went up to watch some Nadal videos and became his fan lol .

The 1991 US Open night match between Chang and McEnroe caught my attention while I was randomly channel surfing in a state of boredom. Been hooked ever since as both a spectator and player.

I was the same when I started. I'm pretty sure 1978 was my first year following tennis, but it was about 1980/81-ish before I discovered they played it outside Wimbledon.

Watched in and out since 2007. Fully commited circa 2010.

I caught up with every single big match since 2003 in the meantime and a bunch of Agassi-Sampras classics, as well as some other 90s and 80s classics.

Most fans of a sport come when there is a story which can't be missed. I am picking some times in history to ask ttw in general when did you start watching tennis?

I was watching it when Ivanisevic won Wimbledon as a wild card. Probably that's where it started for me.

( Have tried and picked 1/2 events per decade! )
Mid 60's till today.

Wimbledon 1995 QF Agassi vs Jacco Eltingh was the first match I watched. Became an Agassi fan and was heartbroken when he lost the SF against my countryman Boris.

In the US in the 70s into the early 80s, PBS used to televise quite a bit of tennis, all summer — back when we had US tennis tournaments all summer, ones the top pros played. Collins and Dell used to do commentary and sometimes Barry MacKay instead of Dell. Bud Collins was a fixture. Collins knew as much about tennis as anyone ever knew about tennis. He would be generally considered “clueless” on TTW. :giggle:

Roland Garros 2005

You literally only know the Big 3 era. :X3: Are you tired of them already or do you feel lucky to have seen it all?

I remember my Dad had us watching tennis back in the 70's, but don't recall too much from then. In the early 80's though I had a friend who played tennis so he had me watching and talking about it at the time. Wasn't until probably mid 80's though "i" took full interest and was there when Agassi came to light in the mid 80's, and Pete right after. So I would say that was kinda the era I jumped in. Mind you, I wasn't even playing tennis at that point. I didn't personally play until the late 80's or first year of the 90's, and only just hitting with guests at the Arizona Biltmore where I was the training director. even then, I was a racquetball guy, playing tournaments in the southwest here. I REALLY started playing around 40 years old, so quite a few years later.

Recall courts were filled from 6am till 2;30am BITD. Signed up for a city tournament and 210 guys were in the draw at one level. Levels were AAA, A, B, C, & D. Guess F was just a dream.
