Where does Djokovic rank all time on grass?

Fed - 8 titles
Sampras 7/0 finals
Nole 5 titles and 5-1 against Fedal.
Borg 5 Titles .....

Not much different than mine but I think I would change my list and add Nadal in the top 10. His resurgence on grass in the last two years has been impressive.

Borg won over Connors and Mac. At least with Nadal it is more than debatable whether they are really lesser competition. As for Federer, sure on paper it sounds great having beaten him in three Wimbledon finals but let’s remember it was not exactly the peak version of Fed which Nole beat.

Just occurred to me that Borg and Djokovic both stand at 5 wins and 1 loss with the 1 loss, in each case, coming against a player who had made his maiden final at Wimbledon the year before.

Compared to djokovic, sampras had meh competition too at W.

Djokovic at 5 slams is below sampras right now overall but his performances in finals were so impressive against two other ATGs - Fed and Nadal.

We can also argue that until McEnroe emerged late 1979, there weren't any top serve-and-volleyers after Newcombe faded away in 1975, a full year before Borg won his first Wimbledon.

Djokovic beat the Wimbledon GOAT 3 times in a final, so he is clearly above Borg.

In fairness to Borg there weren't any Wimbledon GOATS still playing at that time apart from himself. Just 2 of his 5 winning finals were won against a previous Wimbledon champ (Connors) whilst Djokovic has 4 (Federer and Nadal).

For some reason Connors could not beat Borg at Wimbledon, yet could beat him on US grass and green clay. I suppose the Wimbledon grass did not suit his game, as he was not primarily a serve and volley player. Whether Federer was at his peak losing to Novak, fact is tough, no other player was capable of beating Roger in those three finals of 14,15 and 19.

Actually, he faced zero Tier 1 serve-and-volleyers until 1980. Before Mac, the last top S&V player he faced was Newcombe in Tour Final 1974.

I think Novak highlights Sampras being better on grass than Federer. At least to me.

Right now given the 3-0 mark, despite Roger's advanced age, Novak can match Roger on grass with 2 more titles at Wimbledon.
