Where Does Wimbledon Rank on your Favorite GS List?

wimbledon above all, that's the easy part. with USO, FO, and AO, i can't seem to put one over the other. the AO is great to watch while the USO does have a great history of past winners, and Roland Garros can be just as beautiful as wimby.

distant 3rd

Aus is always exciting because it's been half the winter since I got to see any tennis, and US is right up there because I know it will be half the winter before I get to see any more tennis. Wimbledon and RG are second tier for me.

In terms of the best ran slam I must say it's AO. Everything is well organized and they even put the live feed on their site for free. Just amazing. It is also very unpredictable. First event of the year and not everybody is in form, also the damn heat while most players are from places that are in winter. Talk about the weather adjustment. Also an event even prime Fed or Rafa not winning in long streaks.

If you want to talk about history and prestige Wimby is first. It has a timeless look, clean court (no ads other than that Rolex logo), and rather unique look of all white attire. Grass is also a very interesting surface and only a lucky few have a chance to play on a proper grass court. +1 there.

Roland Garros is my third because of the surface. A slug fest. Fun if you like drop shots and sliding. I know RG is the top fav in north america because the lack of clay courts, otherwise more people would watch it. The clay season is also very distinctive. Grass doesn't really have a season going and hard court is practically a year round thing.

The USO is probably the poorest slam event of them all. And for some reason I am not too crazy to see all these night matches. It is also placed towards the end of the season with more players getting injured before the event. But it could be more interesting when we finally have an American champ again.

I like long tough matches so F, U or A. W dead last, most overrated GS. Also Roland Garros seems to have the best dressed crowd and most attractive women.

1. Wimbledon - The best.
2. Australian Open - Best atmosphere, first major of the year, incredible matches, surprise finalists etc..
3. French Open - Beautiful surroundings, the biggest clay court event.

4. US Open - It feels to me like every other North American hard court tournament, there are just too many. It doesn't feel special to me. Final set tie-breaks, super Saturday etc..

1.US Open..I love the night matches, Arthur Ashe kids day, a little more laid back (Federer giving serving tips to the crowd after his match, Novak challenging John McEnroe to a hit-around). All fun stuff.

2. French. I like long rallies, and the fickle french crowd is a treat. Plus, I'm a Nad-****, so anything the King can win on is a plus.

3. Wimbledon. The history, etc..blah blah

4.Australian Open. Mostly because the tv schedule times are complete opposite from my sleep schedule.

I prefer tennis on faster courts. RG is only above AO because of the crazy time difference.

Back when players serve and volleyed, I'd put Wimbledon on top, now they're all pretty much the same, with I guess the U.S. Open slightly ahead since I can attend every year.

FO, Wim, the same... yuck. Mud is for pigs, grass for cows.
Mind you, when I started watching the tennis in 70', I liked Wimbledon the most. That was all the people cared about.

Let's not forget the crass over-commercialization and the endless torrential rain postponing play on all courts for days on end due to the USTA's depthless greed and resistance to the idea of a roof.

If I had a dollar for every ad at RG and the AO I'd be retired. And the AO's 'managing' of the TV schedule is horrific. They all do it - but they are the most corrupt. And the AO is so early in the sched, you get goofy results, injuries.

Wimbledon
US Open
RG
As someone else said IW
AO

(been to all of them - until you've been to W you can't imagine how awesome it is)

With only a grounds pass in hand which would I rather see?

AO: Fosters on the lawn. The local Fans.
Wimbly: Strawberries n' cream plus a Pims after hanging out with the overnighters in the queue.
USO: Lots of good seats in various show courts
French: Tiny Grounds and hard to get a show court seat.

USO - Nite matches, neutral surface, true bounce, yellow ball on blue court (easy on the eyes), no silly tradition, in line with modern times. Watching Roger dressed in black during the nite matches is a beautiful thing.

AO - Nite matches, neutral surface, true bounce, yellow ball on blue court (easy on the eyes), no silly tradition, in line with modern times. Only problem is the time differences with the US.

French Open - Long points, slow, can't see the clay covered ball, no flood lights. A stone age tournament.

Wimbledon - It becomes a hard dirt court after the 3rd day, bad bounce, hard to see the ball, silly tradition, putting families/friends of opponents on the same box in center court (dumb), white attire? stop play at 11 PM, no first Sunday play. A dinosaur age tournament. What is the appeal? I don't get it.

Well, if you don't get it, don't watch it. Go and watch something else! Next!

PS. What's a 'nite match' ? Are you referring to a match that takes place after the sun goes down? It's actually called a 'NIGHT match'. Look it up in a dictionary, if you have one.

Good summation. I hate the same things. I don't know which is the most irritating, the no Sunday play, the friends and family box, or the all white attire. I had the hardest time distinguishing between Lisicki and Kerber the entire match. It seems they both had ponytails and hats. It was crazy.

4) Wimblejoke - Terrible scheduling (too many simultaneous big matches) and constant rain suck the life out of TV viewing enjoyment.

About 10 years ago they stopped showing Wimbledon on free TV in Germany. So i almost forgot about this tournament. It kind of vanished away from my memory. If they ever consider to bring it back to Eurosport I will try to appreciate it like I did so many years ago, when the likes of Sampras, Agassi or Becker were playing.

Until then my ranking would be
1) FO
2) AO
3) USO

Why? First of all I like clay court tennis. Second, the damn time- zones. I don't like staying up all night for tennis.

Eurosport has never shown Wimbledon. The BBC have always had exclusive contract rights to show it. German TV may have had a BBC link. It's possible that once Becker, Graf and Stich retired, interest in Wimbledon faded for German viewers which is why it is no longer shown in Germany.

Until then my ranking would be
1) FO
2) AO
3) USO

I love it! Though I can see it is a problem if you have to get up for work early the next morning.

What's the problem with the friends and family box?

It inhibits or allows for a muted celebration. I wouldn't want to be stuck in a box with my opponent's family. If you celebrate too exuberantly you look like a tool.

Edit: Also, the friends and families look miserable being confined to that sardine box.

1) USO- home slam, summer time, night matches, excitement and drama (seems as though there is more), i am able to go
2) Aussie Open- kicks off the year after no tennis, night matches, aussie fans, doesnt make the winter as bad as it would be
3) Wimbledon- tradition, grass, brings out the best in players, time difference
4) FO- No roof, no lights, rude crowds, time difference, and its on clay :)
