Where would you situate a 5th Slam and what surface

Say it somehow happened where would you situate it :

Once all this Co Vid / trade war stuff passes I would give to China, Shanghai but what surface? I would develop a new type of high performance artificial grass. Sounds weird however you will then have a different surface from the others making it stand out rather than yet another hard court. I would give it a nice distinct colour as well some kinda nice deep red/ maroon thing to differentiate it.

A faster clay court like green clay? then speed up USO to a fast speed like it was in the 1990s?

Eh what there's a faster green clay WTF? Just Googled it seems an interesting option

Tromso Norway, just to say the furthest northern slam - The ONLY SLAM in the Arctic Circle!!!

You know an artic indoor slam would be incredible under a huge glass dome covering the whole venue - played on artifical snow

I would go for 6 slams so that there were 2 on each surface and even up the slam chances for all specialists whether they are Hard, Grass or Clay.

An additional South American Clay slam would be great, perhaps Rio, and another grass slam in Asia so that continent is represented - far fetched as that is.

Sounds a great idea! South America and Asia (y)(y)(y)(y)

Personally, I like fast HC or slowed down grass tennis the best, but I think it is time to bring back the carpet surface. Mcenroe was a joy to watch on that.

On clay in South America.
My first thought was also clay in South America.

Agree, it would surely be clay. South America would be good, or possibly somewhere in Europe given that it is the new tennis epicentre.

Cow dung courts in Chennai.

There is no history of grass in Asia so I don't know why that's suggested.

Feels like an offshoot of the conversation we were having in ESPN Nadal Poll thread. If it is, I approve.

Anyway, South America on Clay would work nicely if a 5th slam had to happen.

There is only ONE option - South America during the South American clay swing.

I'd demote the Australian Open, after Craig Tiley made the dumbest statements known to mankind.

What's most likely: Dubai. The financial backing to beef up facilities and market the event would be there. The players would love it.

What I'd like to see (most): A high-altitude clay slam somewhere in South America. Maybe Rio or Santiago.

clay. and make us open grass. 2 clay 2 grass 1 hard is optimal. long hard court seasons ruin professional careers

One huge problem with a place like Dubai, would be the constant protests over things like human rights issues. Exhos are one thing, but a slam is a much bigger deal. There were pretty loud protests when WWE did their Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia, as well as Joshua/Ruiz 2 in boxing. And those were just one-off events. It'd be a PR nightmare if a slam was being protested on a yearly basis because it was being held in a country with human rights issues.

Ideally, you want a 5th slam to be located in a country where there isn't a huge gap in terms of the political and human rights idealogies of the western countries where slams are already held. Otherwise you will just get the ATP being caught up in political crossfires.

Indoor carpet, somewhere in Europe. All of the slams, even grass, have slowed down to a crawl. The fifth slam should deviate from that and reward those who actually can play in super fast, low bouncing conditions. It's too late for Fed to benefit, so I'm looking at what would benefit tennis the most and fan interest. The slow surfaces have just produced grind fests.

There is no need to do so.
4 Majors in the calendar year (Grand Slam) is a tradition that I hope will never be removed.

Yes. China isn't the answer either.

Tennis is a first-world sport, a creation of the English-speaking world with heavy Francophonic influence.

And you don't want to hold it in a place that's difficult or expensive to get to or navigate once you get there.

Which country is first-world, could easily accommodate the logistical/infrastructure demands of a Grand Slam, and has a strong Anglo/Franco identity?

Yes, that's right. Canada. I have made this argument before and I think it's the logical choice. We already have the US Open on the East Coast, so maybe Vancouver could be the 'West Coast Slam'.

Don't need a 5th slam but if there is one, anything but Hard Court.

Clay - blue or green clay would be cool
Grass - would Wimbledon like to not be the only grass slam again?
Carpet - except I think it was not well liked on the tour
Something new?

I'd say a faster clay or another grass slam. Or how about both and have a nice even half dozen...
