Both completely dominate in their matchups against Wawrinka. Federer leads the head to head 19-3, Nadal 16-3. Wawrinka has 3 wins over each one of them, one in a slam and two in masters, though Federer and Nadal didn't play their best in any of these matches. So who is tougher for Wawrinka?

Well, he wasn't in beast mode all the time. For example, he definitely played better against Nadal in Shanghai 2013 than in Shanghai 2015.

About the same as statistics go but playing style wise it’s Federer. Wawrinka can’t react to Federer rushing him by playing fast off the bounce, not letting Stan line up his big swings properly. That’s why he’s beaten Roger only on clay while he’s beaten Rafa on all surfaces they’ve encountered each other.

Raw numbers are pretty similar for both matchups, surface breakdown points to Federer being worse matchup for Stan.

Hard to say. Against Federer he atleast always has a decent shot on clay, at pretty much any stage of their careers. So I guess I would say Nadal as except for Nadal's worst ever slump period I never felt he had much shot vs Nadal anywhere.

I have never said Rafa wasnt great/epic outside clay. And it has probably more to do with Fed than Nadal, at least equal. Federer is 17-0 vs Stan off-clay and 4-3 on clay. So i think its fair to say Fed is the worst match up off-clay and Nads on clay.

The thing with Federer is so mental. Until the day of which we do not speak, Wawrinka never even took a set off of Nadal! In 12 meetings! 7 of which were not on clay!

Nadal was his ultimate nightmare until 2014 as he was 0-12 vs the Spaniard and had never even taken a set from him in any of the matches. With Fed, I feel like it's more of a "too much respect" type of situation due to Fed's status and that they come from the same nation
