Clearly it is '06 Roger.
2010 roger and 2011 Roger had match points at the US Open against absolute Peak Djokovic. Hence, back up to 2006 when Roger was at his peak - it is clear that Roger is significantly better.
Nole.
He dealt with Fed/Nadal all year on hard courts that year.
Who did Fed deal with on hard courts in 2006? Yea.. NO ONE. Oh thats right.. Crappy form Roddick and washed up injured Hewitt and Baghaditis and Kiefer

Well, so far not too many people voting for Fed all the way. A little surprise to me. I thought I am in minority to say Djoker is a better defender.
Djokovic at his absolute best back in 2011 was probably a better defender than even Nadal for awhile, atleast on hard courts (and this poll is only about hard courts). It would be crazy to suggest even peak Federer is a better "defender" than 2011 Djokovic. Even planet TW has its limits to the Fed insanity.
why, which hard court great did Fed have to play amazing to beat at their peak in 06?
Gamewise, it's Fed and quite frankly it's not close. HC tennis is primarily offensive tennis, so I have to question those who value defense over offense on a HC if they have a clue. Now it's another thing that the ATP slowed everything down but strictly speaking HC tennis is designed for shotmakers/offensive players.
It doesn't matter if he had to play me in 2006. You are missing the point - which is that past peak Federer was pushing absolute peak Djokovic to match points when Federer was 30. So it makes obvious sense that when Federer was 25 - he was much stronger. His 2006 record of consistent high level throughout the year establishes that too.
You wanna know what makes even more obvious sense?
How about broken back 34 year old Agassi pushing PEAK Federer to the limit at USO04? It surely makes obvious sense that younger Agassi swipes peak Fed off the floor.
Or does this thing not work when it's against Fed?

Agassi was playing great tennis during that period. Better than alot of years in the 90's...Plus the wind really threw Federer off, Agassi is perhaps the best wind player ever.
I see your point though, at the USO 11 Federer was playing very well. Although peak Federer being up 2 sets to love would certainly close it out and not disappear in sets 3 and 4. He wouldn't tank a set to make a final push in the fifth. Which is basically what happened.
I'd take Roger overall but on the slower hardcourts Novak would give him hell, especially the AO. I'd say they split their meetings with a 6/4 advantage to Federer maybe.
But no limits to the Nadal insanity unfortunately.
What's your vote, Chico?
And I agree Federer 2006 had a slightly better game on HC's, but for people bringing up the argument of 2010 and 2011 matchpoints, remember that baby Djokovic also had 7 set points against prime Fed during the USO 2007.
It works both ways people...
