He almost NEVER hits his forehands as flat as that video, almost always looped and deep. For the most consistently hard forehand, MPH wise anyways, is Blake (heck, I remember seeing a video of him hitting a 130+ return of serve forehand), but Gonzalez has the most effort driven forehand (100+ mph and monster topspin, nasty! :twisted: ).

i know!, i remember that 124 mph forehand blake hit at the ao, and gonzo can hit the monstrous fh out of all.

Many guys can hit the occasional flat bomb, but Federer has the fastest consistent forehand. He has a more Semi-Western grip than most of the current huge forehands, but still rips up and across the ball. Somehow he hits through the ball with tremendous forward racquet speed while still generating heavy topspin.
Most of the other big forehands are either looping heavy topspin bombs or pretty flat. Federer controls his missiles with topspin and can hit with huge forward velocity more often and from more spots on the court. The forehand missiles look flat, but usually have a lot of spin.

What makes Federer unusual and devastating is that he makes use of the windshield-wiper effect on his forehand with a much more neutral grip. His is a more modified eastern, or classical, grip than semiwestern.
The grip allows Federer to play closer to the baseline than most and take the ball early. But, Yandell said, Federer's hand and forearm rotation and his open stance allow him to generate spin averaging 2,500 revolutions a minute on his forehand versus 1,800 r.p.m. for Agassi and Sampras, who is now retired, when they were filmed.
"Roger's hitting it as hard, but with 30 to 40 percent more topspin," Yandell said. "That allows him to find places on the court that nobody since John McEnroe has found."

Gonzo and Blake all the way. Mariano Puerta impressed me with his in the French Open 2 years ago, too but he may be doping.

Blake and Gonzo, but with Federer's technique, I think he could hit it the hardest if he wanted.

I think Gonzo has the nastiest forehand. Blake hits huge but its so flat. Fed hits huge too, he has pin point accuracy.
Sepicial mention to Tursonov and Verdasco!! Both really huge as well.
Juan Carlos Ferro pretty big too, he went forehand to forehand with Blake at Wimbeldon and won most of those battles!!

they all have great fast forehands, but the characters of the forehand is a little different
federer has the most accurate forehand (and running crosscourt forehand)
blake has the biggest flat forehands
nadal n andreev have the best 'heavy' (spin/clay) forehands
gonzalez has the biggest forehand (if time permits)

You have that backwards if anything. Federer's returns are the best around. Blake is decent on second serve returns.

Fastest, probably Blake and gonzo. Federer usually puts more spin on his but he can rip it too. I'd say Gonzo is the biggest, but he doesn;t keep it in, which is why Federer's is the best.

well imo, blakes forehand on the return is faster, but he isnt one of the best returners, only if he times it to his fh well enough.

fastest maybe Tursunov. Or Sampras, even now ;-) Tursunov's forehand many times last year was very impressive. I remember in Montreal his forehand was clearly a little faster than Federer's, whose forehand I think come close in this ranking, maybe the second best.
For younger players, maybe Gulbis has the fastest one.

Gonzo has the biggest, IMO. I am not saying the best, as that implies so much more. But he for sure has the biggest.
Verdasco is probably #2 for me. If he rips it, it's one of the biggest I've ever seen. When he played Joker at the FO '07, they got into a couple of rallies where FerVer just took over and flat out overpowered Joker. Joker just looked at his box, raised his eyebrows, and shrugged his shoulders as if to say 'What do I do against THAT?!'
Baghy is another one who can fire a flat cannon when the need arises. Nalby can, too.
For outright power, it's a toss-up between Gonzo and FerVer.

Yeah, but Verdasco doesn't always hit it flat. he always has a lot of power, but sometimes its translated as topspin. but he can rip it when he needs to.

Just what I was thinking. Because of his general lack of success on non-clay courts, he may not be in consideration, but you can't deny that his spin is ferocious.
