Why are women not playing the Laver Cup or a similar event?

We live in a world ever more egalitarian, women demand more rights and visibility as it should be. So what's happening here?

Why isn't there a Margaret Court/Steffi Graf Cup that promotes and celebrates women's tennis?

Just curious about it.

Nobody in the womens game has the vision and business savvy and greed to make it happen. I do think there would be an added layer of amusement to the Laver Cup if it was a mixed event, but what are you going to do. Until someone convinces Rog there's more money to be made that way it isn't going to happen. Doesn't seem like it'd be that hard if he could get the likes of Osaka and Serena to take part.

No interest, and no money to back it

It should follow suit and be named after the woman that achieved the CYGS. Let it be The Graf Cup. Agassi to organize it and to be held in Vegas the 1st year.

I say make the Laver Cup a Mens/Women's co-event. It would help Team World finally win!
We'd probably still lose now that Serena and Kenin kind of suck. Osaka might be convinced to play if they build an underground tunnel from the court to her hotel room.

The women don't seem to want it (otherwise they would have asked for it already) and it probably wouldn't get many viewers anyway. Also curious to know why you say the bolded bit, when there's still many rights and disadvantages men face in society - mainstream media doesn't even talk about this.

I’m pretty sure we will see men’s rights organisations in the near future. They even turned James Bond into a woman. I wonder what’s next. Massive castration campaigns? :-D

Ngl, that’d actually be more interesting considering the disparity isn’t as big as the ATP when it comes to Europe vs world.

It could be Serena, Osaka, barty, Bianca, leylah against Petra, karolina, aryna, Iga, Emma, Bencic. Chris evert and Navratilova could be mentors as they’re similar to McEnroe/Borg in terms of rivalry. Name it Margaret court cup or Graf cup.

It’s extremely rare to see wta players do something in a group. ATP at least has some fun interviews and games and stuff on YouTube. WTA doesn’t have even that.

But I don’t think anyone’s interested enough to actively do something.

in general men on the atp tour are friendly with each other but the women on the wta tour arent
there is a difference in culture so a wta laver cup would be harder to set up

Margaret Court Cup would be hilarious!
Then have BJK and Bobby Riggs coach the teams, or alternatively Rene Richard.
Osaka could be the commentator.

Hmmm.....a Margaret Court Cup might prove somewhat problematic for some players and fans. A Billie Jean King or Steffi Graf Cup might sound better.

I think it'd be really tough to call up the women's teams for Europe or World. The WTA isn't a so clear competition as the ATP is. But I don't think that that's the reason they aren't playing. Perhaps, the prospective organizers are worried of the female tennis players' fights in locker rooms.

I don’t understand this? Unlike the men’s side, there are a decent amount of good players on the world team as well as Europe. You don’t need to dig into the 100’s in terms of rankings on the men’s world side. The “world” team for the ladies has the #1 player as well as the reigning Aus Open champ yet the men’s side doesn’t even have a top 10 player. As for the comments about fighting in the women’s locker room? Have you seen what the men’s world group say about Zverev? Validating the domestic violence accusations. Perhaps don’t mock the women when the men’s side is just far, far worse.

Is this what you mean by friendly? Saying “**** him” and then Opelka and McEnroe validating the domestic violence claims against Zverev?

I see none of that in modern day WTA amongst the best in the world. Talk about looking like an absolute idiot. I mean this happened last night on the men’s tour and you said that about the women? Geez

@Aussie Darcy your comment about the top ten players issue in men's Laver Cup's interesting but Zverev accusations uncalled for. Let's balance our level of seriousness when it comes to communication on some topics here!

I didn’t make the accusations, nor did I force McEnroe AND Opelka to comment on them?

The person I quoted had the audacity to say the women don’t get along so it wouldn’t work. and you literally have the men saying **** him (Zverev) and discussing the DV accusations? Don’t diss the women’s tour as being non friendly when that literally happens last night. Surprised you’re not agreeing with me?

The women concentrate on the Billie Jean King Cup (formerly known as the Federation Cup). It is the equivalent to the men's Davis Cup. More tradition.

sure but when its over there no lasting effect its just sports i think the mens side can see this more
its well documented in alot of book about pro tennis
men are more friendlier with each other the women isolate themselves more

disputes and fights will happen from time to time and two people go at it but when its over its over they dont hold grudges for years and years

Why would anyone pay to watch a women's exhibition? The stands are empty even when they play a sanctioned match.
