Why is this man the only person that can beat Djokovic (outside of clay)?

As a Federer and Nadal fan, it has been painfully evident that in the rallies, they are never comfortable against Djokovic. In their recent matches, Djokovic is always comfortable against Federer and Nadal in the rallies and against pretty much every single other player which is the main reason he has won so many grand slams. Superb balance and such amazing positioning just gives Djokovic such an edge and he has barely declined at all.

There is only one player capable of beating Djokovic, as long as he is in some decent form. Stan Wawrinka.

The balance and baseline domination Djokovic enjoys against Federer and Nadal (and everyone else) simply isn't there against Wawrinka. They've played some very good matches, clearly there's a matchup advantage that Wawrinka enjoys against Djokovic. Question is why can't other players do what Wawrinka can do against Djokovic? You would think Nadal's powerful super spin forehand which jumps off the court, or Federer's high spin super direct forehand would be more dangerous, but Djokovic eats those shots up somehow.

For certain reasons, Djokovic is never comfortable in the rallies against Wawrinka. He can't stand on the baseline and hit comfortable return shots from Wawrinka's baseline shots which he does against Federer and Nadal. It also looks like Wawrinka has all the time in the world during their rallies, whilst other players playing against Djokovic always look rushed, stretched and end up missing. Perhaps it's Wawrinka's trajectory from his forehand and backhand which is obviously different from other players, not sure if there is a graphic somewhere which shows this.

What is it that allows Wawrinka to be so comfortable against Djokovic in the area which is he is most devestating?

It's almost a shame, we are heading for a period where next gen will challenge Djokovic but ultimately Djokovic will win because that's what he does. We were spoilt this gen with matches like Wimbledon 2008, unfortunately we may never see the likes of these matches again after seeing what awaits us.

Only ''person'' that is beating The Djoker is time but guess what, Djoker doesn't age(wish i knew the secret of eternal youth or at least the secret of preserving a perfect hair line).

What will likely happen is that he will get bored after winning a couple of Calendar Slams. He prolly aims to win them 3x times or at the very least 2 times. He could also go for 14 Rg's to erase Nadal from any possible Goat discussions but i doubt he cares for that( he already made his point that he can beat Nadal there, he will at least let him have the title of King of Clay out of mercy), not that he can't but it will simply take too long to make it worth it. At a certain point he will have to focus on his kids also and what's the point of winning even more after you are already the Goat and that by a large margin.

Realistically he will stop around 30 slams at a point when Fedal are long done and retired and he will just feel like he has nothing to play for anymore except money, but at this point, tennis is not the main source of income for him anymore anyway. So really nothing else to play for when you have no competition or no records to break that aren't yours.

Why stop at 30? How about double the slams at 40 slams? Surely there will be no competition. He may win every single slam until end of 2026.
And then he gets bored and retires.

So overraring Wawrinka against Djokovic, and most bcuz of 4vs4 at slams. If you look outside slams you will see who is the real boss. Not even mentioning that Novak was injured in both of those USO loses to him.

Lol. Imagine using a retirement as evidence that Stan "6-19" Wawrinka is better vs Djokovic than Nadal or Fed.

Well agree that the overall record is one sided but it doesn't mean Wawrinka did not have the ability to step up against Djoko on the grander stages better than most. What I observed was consistent power play and a refusal to give Novak angles to work with because Novak is so good at exploiting your own angles or the recovering movement after you've hit said angle. E.g you hit DTL and move back to the middle he would go DTL just as you're moving back to the middle. When on defence Wawrinka would rather go down the middle or a really safe CC shot not even close to the lines. Really only pulls the trigger DTL for the kill.

Djokovic has only won ONE of the last FIVE US Opens, despite hardcourt being his favorite surface.
He's won less US Opens than Nadal, despite hardcourt not being Nadal's favorite surface.
Enough said.

So what??! Such a "Ta doo" about 1 extra USO! Look "down under!" Need I go on? Everyone has a fave; Nadal's just happens to be clay! After all's said and done, Nole has the Double CGS and Gold Masters to go along with a bunch of YEC's Nadal can only dream of having! Selective stats will always bite you in the arse son! :-D

Let's get things into some perspective. Stan has had some good Slams wins against Djokovic but he has only won 6 out of their 25 matches and he hasn't won any on grass.

The only players to enjoy double digit victories against Djokovic are Nadal (28 out of 58 matches), Federer (23 out of 50 matches), Murray (11 out of 36 matches) and they have beaten him on ALL surfaces.

It's more selective memory out there! True enough, Djokovic has been the most vulnerable of the Big 3, but even when he's lost, more than likely he still has a huge H2H record against the opponent; sorta like Del Po who's taken him out of 2 Olympics! It matters when you win and Stan's won a few BIG matches over Nole though a heavy underdog each contest played! ;)

Thiem was the only one who could blow Djokovic off the court in all type of matches, shame he got multiples injuries, he was even more consistent than Stan.

Overall because Stan is a master at playing using angles and has a weight on his groundstrokes that keeps Djokovic running the entire time. It’s not just one thing in the matchup but a few:
  • Excellent weight of shot off of both wings from Stanimal - even Fedal have attackable BHs, Stan does not
  • No easily exposable weaknesses from 2013-17 (Djokovic’s slice and net game don’t really work vs Stan) meaning Djokovic is not confident in points
  • Groundstrokes go directly to Stan’s strike zone (he doesn’t like tons of topspin or slices)
  • Slowish surfaces - clay/AO work to Stan’s advantage here. Notice how Djokovic destroyed Stan in Paris, YEC, and Cincy in 2014-15? Djokovic needs a bit more pace.
  • Great movement (underrated about Stan) and shot tolerance - basically Stan can hit heavy balls from the baseline even on a stretch just as well as Djokovic
  • Incredible use of angles - which works to his advantage in long rallies
  • Good/clutch serving in his wins, (sometimes) bad serving in his losses
  • High level mental and physical endurance giving advantage in Bo5
  • Frustration factor in Djokovic causing him to make more UEs
  • Mentality beyond anything else in Stan’s career in those wins. He dropped the first set in all 4 slam wins and went on to win. Crazy self belief
So, unless you are willing to squat down and hit beautifully angled and heavy groundstrokes equally from both wings for 3-4 hours, with basically zero mental lapses or gaps in concentration, you may not be able to replicate the Wawrinka performance. Federer and Nadal are def better players but even they cannot really replicate what Stan does. I’m not sure if there’s a tennis player in history (maybe Guga?) who could copy his blueprint consistently, though Thiem has come close.

Maybe there is a reason both of those victories came in 2017, huh.

This clown in your post above will never be more than a footnote in tennis history, for all the wrong reasons.
He will be remembered as more of a Jeff Tarango than a Marat Safin

For reference:

Not the only person capable of beating Djokovic outside Clay. Djokovic is a machine. He does not go for his shots as you know. Just a consistent barrage of deep ball placing sucking the life out of the opponent. However he has a couple of weaknesses:

* He does not like slice. One or two is ok but if you bombard him with slices all day, that's like suffocating him.
* Players who can play like him i.e. machine and outlast him.

Stan has immense power and precision when he's on song. He can hit his way past Djokovic without missing a lot (only when he's on song). Players like Dan Evans give Djokovic a lot of trouble. Bautista Agut and Carreno Busta can rally all day long. They don't have immense power but a consistency that even Djokovic can't match.

NoVAk wAs INjUreD. Lol. Stop with these VB level excuses. He's always been flat outplayed in almost every Grand Slam match against Wawrinka since 2014. It's 4-1 in the last 5 slam encounters, with only one of them going the distance. Djokovic is extremely lucky that his matchup nemesis does not have an ATG mentality and bloomed very late. Novak is SPOOKED when he sees Wawrinka on the other side, especially in Grand Slams when Stan actually cares.

Wawrinka was a terrific player. They had 4 titanic Slam battles: '13, 14, 15 AO and '13 USO; and Djokovic won 3 of them.

Too much was made of '16 USO F that Wawrinka won. Djokovic already had the elbow injury in the previous slam, '16 Wim, which he lost to Querrey, for the only time in a Slam. The following Slam, '17 AO, Djokovic lost to Istomin, for the only time in a Slam.

Djokovic was again injured in their '19 USO encounter, in which he couldn't make it thru 3 sets.

I understand why fans of Federer, and to a much lesser extent Nadal, want to make hay out of this. They have precious little real stuff to go on.

Stan does have an ATG mentality. One of the finest I've seen, especially coming from someone who isn't an ATG himself.

How many other players have been trouncing Novak so badly that he was forced to "accidentally" strike a line-judge to save face?

Even as a big Djokovic fan I will agree that he is a hard matchup in slams and Nole has obviously a hard time dealing with Stan. I don’t make excuses but I never consider that US16 as a bad loss.
Nole got WO and retirements all over the place and was woeful in the tournament. If he won it would of been hilarious Stan winning was no surprise as he was simply the better player post Evans match.

Can PCB win thrice in a row against Djokovic on hard courts? That would be a nice hat-trick during a time that Djokovic has looked invincible on hard courts against everyone else at important tournaments.
