why WTF and Davis cup rules are different?

WTF:
Why is the format not knock-out like every other ATP tourni?
By limiting to 8, Is it not the same like the "Pro slams" in Laver era where you take out surprises by inform players who were not consistent or fit from Jan?
Imagine if all grandslams go that route where only the top 4 qualify for the slams based on ATP points, round-robin or not, are you not limiting the slam titles to just 4 players?
Isn't it the same reason why the pro-slams were not really counted as grandslams?

Davis Cup:
Why is coaching allowed in Davis cup which gets ATP points but not in other tournis? First of all is there any other sport that does not allow coaching in game? And finally its not like Bhagdhatis is going to beat Federer with coaching in game. I mean if you go back in time and allow coaching, do you think the world is gonna turn upside down by now?

Davis Cup allows coaching because it's fundamentally supposed to be a team event. So it makes sense that a coach is allowed to be part of the team, and thus participate.

Well its not like a team is playing other team. You have a singles match or a doubles match at any point of time. If the belief is that coaching can affect the outcome of the match, should it be not allowed then?. And do the coaching between the matches not when the match is on.

Haha, this proves your obsession with Fed. How on earth did you make this about Fed?

True he should have just said the same without using the name "Fed".
Tell him the rules on "how to troll a troll"

Yes, yes it is. Your country's team is playing some other country's team. The specific format they follow involves individual matches between individual players, but it's fundamentally a team event. This involves selection of the court by the home team to favor their guys, both captains trying to pick which players will play singles and which ones will play doubles, and also coaching during the game.

If a player in a Davis Cup tie plays all three matches he can, wins one match and loses two, he'll walk off court a winner if his team still wins 3-2. Vice versa, somebody who goes 2-0 in singles matches won't be celebrating at the end if his team loses 3-2.

I would have actually liked the WTF, if there was only 1 RR with all 8 playing each other, and the top 2 playing in the finals.

Being only 2 sets, I think this should be physically feasible within 12-14 days

Interesting idea.

In my dreams, the WTF would be a knockout tournament between the 8 best players, with each round played as a best-of-3-matches. The 3 matches would be on the 3 main surfaces (grass, HC and clay) and best-of-3-sets matches.
That way, a player would have to play a maximum of 9 matches to win the WTF.
If spread out over 2 weeks, that shouldn't be to bad.
The final over 3 best-of-5 matches would be even better, but that would probably be a stretch.

Would also get rid of the rotating the surface yearly or not debate...

As for the coaching, personally I think they should just allow it anyway. Never understood why it isn't allowed in the first place.

Dude ... you'd ask these guys--at the end of the season--to win nine matches in a row against the top eight players in the world on a variety of surfaces? LULZ! That sounds more like Mario Tennis than real life, brother. Ooh, maybe we could have each quadrant of the court be a different surface! Clay and Grass in the two service boxes, hard court in no man's land, ice in the left double's alley, burning coals in the right, and the court behind the baseline ... wait for it ... beach sand!

MWAHAHAHAHAHA! (Sorry, man. Just having a little fun with ya. Welcome to TT!)

The WTF format is fine. I'd even say it is awesome. I love it and I can't wait to watch it. Davis Cup is awesome too.

Hehe, that's okay, I know it's not realistic to ask :)
Oh btw, they'd actually 'only' have to win 6 matches to win the tournament.
Without the different surfaces it's doable if spread out over 2 weeks (right now 5 matches in 1 week, otherwise 6-9 matches in 2 weeks)

I like the idea of having beach sand behind the baseline, that'll teach them to step in and play more agressively! :D

I know its a team work. But you never really explain why it being a team effort makes it ok to coach during the match. If you say the entire team by coaching is part of any given match, then why not players get substituted in between match by the other players in the team. After-all its the entire team that is playing right?
