Will Nadal win the French Open again?

Will Nadal be the FO champion in 2008?

i think he should quit the hard court seasons (spring and fall) and just concentrate on getting monte carlo, rome, hamburg and french open down. then if he should make a run in wilmby he should secure his position and points enough to be ranked quite high

Who knows ... This year has started with surprise, we'll see what else will it bring to us.

But Rafa is a major favorite, of course.

Rafa is going to be upset this year in the finals but not by Fed, Djoker, Nalby, Tsonga, Ferrer, etc...

He will be dethroned by none other than Andy Roddick!!!!!!

I don't see Roddick making it past the 4th round in this years French Open. I think Nadal is the favorite once again to win the French but I think this year will be tougher for him because of the newer rivals coming up such as Djokovic and Tsonga.

If Nadal plays the same schedule he played last year, I don't see him winning the French.

He seriously needs to be more picky about the number of tourneys he plays.

I give Federer a shot at winning it this year, but it's more likely he wins the other 2. I think you'll see a new champ this year at RG. Possibly Gasquet.

If memory serves me right, Roddick has passed the first round only once which I think was his first appearance. Last 3 years he has been losing in the first round. He might win 1 round this year if he gets an easy opponent.

Ran out of steam in Hamburg but won the French Open and almost won Wimbledon despite a rough schedule due to the rain.

yeah .. nadal is tough kid and the way he plays and the speed of phillipe chattrier court ... he seems to be invincible there

Gasquet will never win on home soil. He just turns into a mental case.

Totally agree. Look at how selective Federer is. Outside of slams and masters he only plays in Basel and Dubai. Makes 10 mil. Not bad.

People count out one single but most important thing, top spin. It raises level of the ball above the shoulder, noone likes it and nadal is relly not a same kind of animal on Hc and on clay. He really really believes in himself like 10 times more on clay, so thats a key for me. He needs 2 wins on clay to regain that confidence and kick ass for the rest of the clay court season. We are all aware tennis has a lot to do with psychology.

djoker is not that good on clay ...... he will probably lose against a clay specialist early on like before quarters

You mean a guy who grew up on clay and got to semis to lose to invincible nadal last year is not that good on clay. Well whats good to you ? Only nadal ?

I agree with Zhanny. I do not think Djoko is that good on clay compared to HC.

True, he reached the semis at the FO last year, but he highest ranked player he beat was Verdasco #51, and he was taken to four sets by a guy ranked about #300 and to five by O. Patience.

He can play well but not great. He is much better on hardcourt.

As for Tsonga being a threat, he has only ever played one ATP level match on clay and he lost to A Roddick in straights. That was over two years ago and has not set foot on clay since.

Nadal's biggest threat will still be Federer, and himself (ie: injuries).

nadal has never lost at the french and has never been brought to five sets on clay. As much as dislike the guy, all these rumors about his knees going out are BS. He's got at least 5 years of top 10 level play. As others have mentioned, he's definitely a favorite, and could loose this year, but will most likely win many of the french titles over the next few years.

Djokovic has a real shot in knocking out Fed in the semis if he is on Fed's side again. I don't see him having a shot against Nadal though.

Djokovic had an absolute joke draw to the semis. He didnt even play a single player ranked inside the top 50. If he was in the Davydenko/Nalbandian/Canas quarter he probably would have lost in the 3rd round, and for sure would have never sniffed the semis. He has no big wins on clay that I know of. I expect the moment he hits Nadal, Federer, Davydenko, Nalbandian, a healthy Canas, or Ferrer at the French he is gone, if not before that.

As for the semifinal you refer to Djokovic played his best and the semi was still a very easy match, Federer for example played horribly in the final and was still a much tougher match then Djokovic playing well in the semis.

He has the same shot of taking either out, not match is a given even on clay.
Lmao. Nadal is the King of Clay. Federer is not. Federer and Djokovic play with the usual style and therefore it is about an equal matchup while Nadal plays with awesome King of Clay style. No one else does it.

I like your confidence in your guy, but you might be right.

Wait a minute...

Nadal's King of Clay style is his normal game, which is more effective on the red clay. So this style you are marveling about is nothing new. Again we will just have to wait and see.

This is true. Nobody likes it including Roger. But I believe Roger has the best chance of winning the French because his genuis means there is always the possibility of him finding a way...

Remember the 19-odd break points he had against Nadal in last years FO final?

If he had converted half of them he would have had a calendar slam in 2007.

This just proves Roger has the game. No one else has yet come close.

I don't see anyone who can grind against Nadal on clay. Clay is just a different sureface. If you guys have tried playing on clay, you know what I mean. You have to "WORK" for your points. Not to mention, there is a sliding technique and much more.

NADAL will take the FO.

Last year's FO just proves that Roger's best preparation and talent is still no match against Nadal on clay. You can refer to the result last year.

And 'IF' Nadal didn't get the injury at Wimbledon, he would have won it too. A better chance then 'IF' Fed converted half of them as Fed didn't even take Nadal to 5 sets at the FO.
