Will the Next Gen be good on grass?

Seeing as we’ve had the “next gen” for the past 3-4 years, I haven’t seen much good results on grass courts. Their game is not built around it, not even the Fed copy is good on grass(I couldn’t find the gif of Tsitsipas whiff) but they haven’t come close to getting Wimbledon, and maybe that’s because Djokovic has a stranglehold on the tournament but what’s wrong with their abilities on grass? And why is it Kyrgios seems to be the best on grass? Discuss.

Shapo, Tsitsi, and Zverev have potential. We missed out on grass season this year, but hopefully next year's (if it's held) will give them an opportunity to come into their own on grass

Yes they will. FAA reached stuggart final and semi at Queens. Medvedev said in interview than he prefer grass court and made Queens SF. I think they need to gain experience on this surface. Stefanos must be show his real level next few years because after the french 2019 he plays crap on any surface until Pekin.

Shapo and T*ts have a ton of potential on grass.

Zved no way. He needs the ball up higher where he can just bash it. Lacks the footwork and nuanced game to ever win Wimbledon.
Why Shapovalov? Zverev I can get because he’s taller but I don’t think Shapovalov will do good on grass.

Zverev can be a servebot and he's improved his net game (check out the first 2 sets against Thiem at USO, his short game was amazing)

Shapo has great variety, aggression, and the best net skills of the nextgen
He definitely has an aggressive game but I’m not sure he will be a force to be reckoned with on grass, more like a Nadal, somebody who is good on grass but we don’t expect big things. Thoughts?

Picked Shapo because of slicing serve, willingness to attack and he is shorter so lower balls shouldn't bother him as much as big bots like Zved.

Btw I actually think Sinner is going to do well on grass. Love his game.
I think Sinner may, however we haven’t seen his game for a long time, he only surfaced last year, but it will be fantastic if he carries the mantle on grass.

Probs not. Grass shall be the last stronghold of the Big 4.

If one of them wins it again next year, there shall be at least a 20-year gap between winners from outside that group (Hewitt in 2002 to ???)

Zverev really should have made it to the quarters back in 2017. He had that match with Raonic right on his racket and pissed it away. So he seems okay on it, though as with all things NextGen, one good run is off set by lots of bad.

Tsitsipas' game seems well suited for grass, if he can figure out his return. Plus he is still young, so he will have time to win Wimby after the Big 3 decline into the abyss. Shapo is a decent bet, although he also struggles with his ROS. Another option is... Opelka. He is the second incarnation of Isner, so with the field wide open and some luck, I can see him going deep at Wimbledon.

Still, it feels like it will be the most open of the slams in the coming years. Most of the young guns still don't know how to move on grass.

Hmmm. I don't think anyone will be deliberately trained to play well on Grass. Maybe a player who likes getting down to low balls, can slice, play at the net. Plays with variety and is a bit of a shotmaker. Someone like Humbert. The problem however is the way the surface changes and so a decent baseliner who gets a good draw in the first week can win it versus a player who has better grass court skills.

Why not? There are 3 surfaces in tennis and your job as a professional is to learn how to play on all 3 of them. Grass has existed since the inception of tennis so it would be pretty stupid not to train players on this surface as well. It only shows that the coaches are simpletons.

All you described doesn't apply to grass nowadays. Unless you think Djokovic is a great net player and has variety.

The likes of Hewitt, Roddick and Murray have all excelled on grass. No reason why the Next Gen and Thiem shouldn't.

2019 - literally no NextGenner in the QF
2018 - literally no NextGenner in the QF
2017 - literally no NextGenner in the QF

Only 2 in R4 2019.
Only 4 in R4 2018.

Amazing. They're actually getting worse on grass.
