Wozniacki dropped from Yonex

Finally

It's about time she tries something new. She seems to be focusing more on Rory and fun than her current form on the tour.

That's great news. Yonex had stained its reputation by signing a pusher, and wasting those great rackets on her.

Big news all over. Wozniacki hasn't been playing well for a long time, so what's the point to pay her if she isn't doing any good for the company, good riddance, the Babolat she was using in Wimbledon didn't make any difference in her playing she is still losing every 1st or second. Sabine Lisicki has already achieved more with Yonex than Wozniacki even though Wozzy is good looking might attract more people.

I was using babolat but as soon as Wozniaki switched to yonex I felt I had to do the same because she is good looking.

Although Lisicki isn't too hard on the eyes either. Her WTA photo kinda reminds me of Gloria Estefan when she was young:

haha, Anna Kournikova is way better looking than Wozniacki, I'd take Martina Hingis over Wozniacki too, actually I'd take all of them at once, hahah

bzzzzzzzt. wrong. martina hingis is barely better looking than the other martina, you know....the real one.

woz is cute, at least.

thanks mclovin! I was just getting ready to post that tt staple: this thread is worthless without pics!

anyway, this move is prolly good for everyone all the way around. she obviously wasn't happy being with yonex (apparently money wears off) and yonex wasn't happy with her racquet infidelity. why want someone who doesn't want to be around?

I think tennis pros should stop playing with badminton rackets. It hasn't work for anyone. Just look how Hewitts badminton racket destroyed his career.

the really amusing thing about this is: when Wozniacki signed with Yonex, she was asked specifically about changing racquets at or close to the apex of her career. Her response was that the racquet never really mattered to her and she could play with anything.

I guess playing with anything is true, but playing at the highest levels of competition was maybe not so accurate.

Looks like the results were there in the beginning, then it also looks like that she fell off the track going out with Rory, so how are we gonna blame the best racquets in the world?? We have to blame the player hahahaha

The part I found interesting was this--When was the last time a racket company announced they were parting ways with a player ?

In all the other threads I read how people are upset that racket companies and or players are misleading the public by having them play with painted frames. Good for Yonex for not letting Wozniacki play with another brand.

In an ironic twist, her BF Rory switched equipment companies as well, from Titleist to Nike, and has also sucked.

Yonex offers more money to just about everyone! Well known secret that Yonex the most aggressive looking to sign folks. And some of the numbers are in the WTF territory - look at Woz got to 1 with a Babolat and makes the switch for$$$$.

Rory hasn't been the same after signing with Nike for mega bucks. Will he do the same? I doubt it. That's a huge contract. I wonder if golfers are as obsessed and finicky about their equipment? I assume they are.

wozy played her best tennis when playing with the aeropro drive. Just like how Davy was playing his best with prince before the Dunlop change and James played his best with dunlop before switching to Wilson. I don't think Verdasco ever felt like he enjoyed using that dunlop or the tecnifibre that he used before dunlop. One simple racquet change can change your results. Verdasco's deep run proved that and if he started his career with the aeropro he might have been a much better player.

Players are enticed with money deals, disappointing, but I understand the reasons why.

gee you're right sparky! Hewitt's only 2 majors have been won with yonex sticks!!! he, Navratilova, Seles, Krajicek and Hingis should all have a class action lawsuit citing their lack of majors. sheesh....

I was surprised by that also. He was using a head racket at the Australian Open.

only thing I can think of is that he made it further at Wimbledon than wozzy did and her walking off the court with a Yonex bag on her shoulder after a second round loss could possibly reflect negatively on them...

when she switched to yonex she said she could play with anything.. i guess she was wrong

I think she was right, because she played with the Babolat again and still lost, actually she had been using it for a little while and still losing, changed the racquets but the result as still the same.

I believe he was using the Head racket when he won his first and only title in Sydney as well. Seems he is back to using his Yonex for the time being. He did well with it at Wimbledon, so maybe he will stick with it this time around.

I'm surprised that Yonex hasn't signed Nishikori away from Wilson. If they did they would completely own their home market.

He has a signature racquet wih Wilson. Hes probably got a pretty sweet deal, not too easy to pick him off I bet.

Yeah it's just weird they would seem to drop her for that reason and keep Tomic. Perhaps they see more upside with Bernard lol. That's just outlandish speculation on my part ofcourse. :)

Probably keeping him for his wonderful personality. Oh wait...

Got the axe after she started using the blacked out Babolat frame. Remains to be seen if switching back to Babolat will help get her career back on track. (Probably not)
She did sign with Yonex, because they offered her more money, but she also had some great results with them.

Actually, her results started dropping almost right away with Yonex. She has not been the sae since the switch. With the blacked out Babolat, she made the finals at the Wimbledon warm up.

No true at all, here it goes again: "OZ Open semi, USO semi, 5 titles incl. Indian Wells, 2 finals, Y.E. #1" how is that dropping??

We also have to consider that Serena had been out, Kvitova wasn't who she is and many players weren't playing that well, so she also took advantage of that period, but we all know.

LOL, she made to the quarters I believe in a as you said warm up tournament with many top players being out of the tournament, so zero credibility for the results, whenever it mattered in Wimbledon she was easily dispatched in the second round, so nope, the switch, if anything helped her to keep herself in the top, otherwsie she would have been in the top 20.

Looks like Yonex made a wise decision in firing her, Caroline as good looking as she is doesn't have what it takes to win a slam.

You assume correctly...tour events make ample room for the manufacturers to park their equipment trucks/RVs on site so all the players can access immediate adjustments to all their clubs. There are some pretty intense "mad scientists" in those vans tweaking away on just about every player's bag during the course of the event.

I will also add the camoflaging of pro racquets is dwarfed by the pro golf crowd. Many of these guys carry as little as one club in their bag for labels they endorse.

^^^ and we could drive the 'sue Wilson for not selling us the real Fed racket' people crazy - a pro's 7-iron quite often has the loft of a 6; custom grips, etc...

Gary Player had some 'advice' for Rory - didn't have anything to do with his equipment. :)

Dude, you've gotta be joking. Golf club obsession dwarfs the TT boards and all other tennis-related chat on the intrawebs. Search "golf club swing weight" or "blades vs. game-improvement irons" and you could go down the rathole for thousands of years.

That's primarily the reason I have never taken up golf. Given my current racketholism I fear what I would become if I ever started on golf gear.

Golf actually has a widely available survey done before every tournament of each players bag to check against conformity. Maybe it's even every round. You can see the guys on the first tee with the pads and pens removing head covers and such. If only there was something similar for tennis. There would be less threads on here for starters.

Hingis is not attractive at all IMO.I bet Woz is going to owe some serious cash. I'm sure she violated her contract with Yonex. They will get paid and get to dump Woz. I'm sure they were happy she that she played with a Babolat.

Same results different frame, good thing now that Yonex dropped her, I didn't think in the beginning but now I see they were right, Wozniacki does not have what it takes to win a slam.
