Of course. That'll be hard once someone younger and skilled steps up. However, he's the best NextGen player and seems head and shoulders above everyone but Thiem and Kyrgios.

Novak has great hair genes and Zverev too, you need great hair to be a champion but maybe later in life Zverev will be like his father.

Sascha seems like a decent bloke. Hanging out in nightclubs and banging random women doesn't qualify as 'charisma' just being a lout.

He whines in every single match that I've watched him, even when he's a set and a break up. I feel he thinks he's a lot better than he actually is not to mention that his style of play is really dull and lacks variety.

Well, then you haven't been watching many of his matches. Yes, in the past he used to whine (in a very bratty way btw), but during the last couple of tournaments he has shown a very good behavior, he's calm and focused even when he's in bad situations. I watched all his matches in Rome and I don't remember any kind of incident.

You said Safin was interesting and had charisma, but big part of his 'charisma' and the interest people had in him resided in his problematic personality and his image as a party boy. If being dull goes hand in hand with being focused and committed to a goal, then I hope Zverev is the most boring person on the entire planet. I rather sacrifice the thrill and excitement of watching a striking personality on court to see how another talent is wasted by getting lost in the volatility of his own 'charisma'.

What were the experts saying about Djokovic when he came up the pipeline? I felt he would win 10+ slams after the AO 2008 but lots of us started writing him off as an also ran before his 2011 explosion.

Yeah, but I'm keeping expectations tempered. You never know who else will show up. As it stands, however, he seems ready. His draw in the FO isn't good, though.

This RG has been rather dissapointing for Zverev :oops:... Anyway, here are some of the things he said in the press conference:

Asked about the decision to stop the match the day before:
‘I think we should’ve stopped earlier than we should. Yesterday was cloudy and dark. It was the right decision to stop.’​

What went wrong in the match:
‘He played very well. He played very smart as well – he pushed me back a lot. I didn’t feel the ball on my racquet a lot. It was myself. It was all me more than anything or anyone. I played absolute ****. That made the difference – it’s quite simple.’

About the conditions in RG and the difference to Rome:
‘It is a very windy court. It was my first time on Chatrier. The conditions maybe – it has nothing to do with Rome. You sometimes play bad – there’s no regrets. Rome I played well, I won the tournament. Here I played bad and lost first round. The world doesn’t stop now. I’m still doing ok this year. It’s not the end of the world, I lost a match. I should be concerned the way I played and performed – but it’s nothing to be tragic about.’​

What he did after the match and what's next:
‘I went straight into my locker room, put my bags down & came here. I’ll take a few days off. It’s been a rough few weeks for me – brilliant of course but very tiring.’​

No that actually qualifies you as being a man, why do you think Safin is so popular with women ? Safin has more charisma than all the robots currently playing the game put together. Zverev is just another robot.

It was pressure like this that probably got to Zverev here. Probably so many people touting him as the new savior of tennis, and that he would likely no face the king of clay in the final. It will be a steep learning curve Young Z, but hopefully he takes these punches in his stride and understands how to control and manage himself when expectations are upon, as they were for the first legit time here in Paris.

Zevrev is a player that can handle big moments impressively. He has it in him. He could make Novak look like a nervy older player the other day. He has beaten Federer on grass too. Lets see how he will do. Maybe this loss will inspire him to become an even better player. Lets see what the future will bring, it will be very interesting to see.

Yes, Zverev can handle those moments when he isn't expected to win, or be a fav. He was not expected to beat Federer on grass, or Djokovic in Rome, and that freedom allowed him to play his game without any mental burden. But, after that win, look how much more he has been put under the microscope. This is now new territory for Z. We know he has the GAME to beat any of them, he pushed Nadal all the way in IW last year and to five sets in AO this year also, but how does he now deal with weighted expectations. They say the game is won and lost between the ears, and there are a variety of contributing factors that can galvanize your game or hinder it. Now lets hope he bounces back quickly because I do think going from a potential rising star, to being the man who would face KOC in the RG almost overnight was a bit too much too soon for him.

This is the transition all players w slam potential have to face. Either he will never rise to the occation and stay at this level in his game and mentality, or he will climb the mountaintop and do it. Its impossible to predict what will happen.

Sure. That is my point. Lets just see how he rebounds from this, could be in a few weeks, or it could take a little while yet before he figures it out.

I knew he was a great player when he beat peak Roger at the '07 Canadian Open. But I never thought he'd win more than a couple of majors. Why? He retired endlessly in matches. His fitness wasn't there. He was not mentally tough enough. He threw in the towel if it was hot. Why would anyone expect any great things of a guy who retired in 3/4 majors? That's cringe worthy!

He and Agassi are the only mentally marginal players that I ever saw turn things around, so props to Novak. He proved a lot of us wrong.

I first truly became a fan of Novak in IW 2007. That was the first time I saw greatness in him, I saw the potential. It was just refreshing to watch a new player trying to his blast his way through onto a tour that was completely dominated by Fedal. But his fitness frustrated me a lot and I always felt that he would not reach his true potential if he was going struggle like that on court, but he managed to turn it around and I almost felt vindicated in that I wasn't wrong when I felt this player had something special inside of him.
