Nadal seems back

i don't mean his tennis as that is still way off but he is angry and belligerent and when in that mood Nadal is hard to beat!

He did seem content to drift off into retirement but seeing how pumped he was with muller and it's two years since I've seen him like that it looks like that fire is back...finally! Hopefully he will start drilling players through the head when they are at the net like he used to many years ago. What Id also like to see is nadal give some to the French crowds much like djokovic does to all the crowds all over the world who are against him..

Nadal should cup his ears at the French, put his fingers to his lips to shhh them, and occasionally misfit the ball at full speed into the crowd! He should also have more prominently the number 9 showing on his outfits!

My apologies if I mixed you up with someone else OP, but I could have sworn I saw you saying several times that Nadal should retire now. Kind of weird to have a completely different mood after a 3 sets win over Muller. And by getting back, I wonder what that means, how much back? To #4? Because he can say goodbye to #1 forever.

Well, I was pretty impressed by last a few games at the Muller match but...
It was windy day, both players were off and hard to gauge.

if you look at the way Nadal double-faults in last a few tournaments, it seems to be still off...

Agree about his game but im more referring to his mental state! It seems best it's been for a couple of years and that hugely positive and maybe all the haters have rekindled his fire.

Yes I did say he should retire as he seemed to have lost interest and was coasting. But I see a different Nadal mentally. His game is still some way off but that Fire seems to be burning in his eyes. And if that fire is rekindled then anything is possible. I didn't think he would ever get that fire back but maybe just maybe all the liars and haters and accusers have added another five years to his career to shut them all up. Maybe. Don't think im saying he is playing well. But his mental state is a lot more combative than since USO 2013. Im sure you like many others are delighted

yeah, i agree. Fire was there from last winter season. He just had a big set-back at AO 2016. If we think about it, it was a big blow and he is probably still in a process of digesting it, IMHO.
anyway, this guy is toughest man I've seen in tennis.

I didn't think that insane fight was there even last fall and at AO I thought he looked a bit disinterested. Tbh Nadal has never cared much for the AO, if u read his book he practically ignores it despite at the time he wrote his book him having a better record there than USO.

But at IW he has that wild manic look back. Ive not seen it in years at least as far back as USO 2013 but probably even further back to FO 2013 SF where he literally broke djokovic down and seemed to enjoy it. That look is back songs like step 1. Step 2 is to get the FH working again step 3 improve the movement and serve. The good news is though plenty of time to get the mojo back for FO.

The verdasco match could be season defining

I need to see better results that back up that mental state improvement.
As far as being delighted, I am apathetic towards Nadal. He has won an incredible lot so I am not really feeling sorry for him as much as most of other his non-fans are. Nothing against him just to be clear, I respect him a lot, but his time is up.

I will agree with the majority consensus here. After watching his match, I think he has a long way to go to even come back to his norm we are all used to, let alone exceed that level.

I swear, a "Nadal is back" thread pops up every time he wins a MATCH.
Yeah he's not losing in first round in every event, that's amazing. And he can beat a player in the top 50, that's even more amazing. But that's not enough. He needs to win a big title. And we've been waiting for that since June 2014. It's starting to feel like a lonnnnnnnnng wait

I hope you are right. He seemed pissed off with the doping accusation from that former French Sports Minister. He needs to channel this anger the right way, on the tennis court. He was good in first set against Muller but couldn't judge the following 2 sets. It was too windy for anyone to play well.

Do you want to see Nadal win 10RG? While poor Nole doesn't even have 1?

Watch as Nadal loses the next round to Verdasco and this dumb thread is going down in flames lol.
No.
Verdasco beat him at Aussie and that made his year.
Verdasco got his highlight of the year and must be immensely satisfied
He will roll down like red carpet for his hero Nadal

I remember seeing him play and being amazed at his shots and playmaking ability. The Nadal at Indian Wells is not that guy

Maybe but I think that French minister may have rebooted Nadal so to speak. I think she may have done him a favour

It's a shame so many people lack the ability to read! The replies here seem to suggest I said Nadal was playing well when an educated person would have realised I was referring to his mental state which had gone awol past two years. I didn't realise people were so fearful of Nadal he really as got into the psyche of rival fans. It's as if they fear Nadal ever returning back to his best as his best is far too good for whoever their favourite player is. Nadal may never get his form back but for now he seems to be ultra motivated and i didn't think I'd see the day but thanks to ***** of a French minister it seems she deserves a massive thanku from all Nadal fans . So thank you lol

He will storm back to the RG crown this year. Nole will be intimidated and crap his pants the minute Bull is back.

If you turn out to be right with this one, I will vote is for "2016 TW Insight of the year" award or something like that. (for catching it early with just one match :D ).
Hope you are right.

Just chill out. Nadal looked good vs Verdasco but one good win means nothing. He needs to keep it up and win tournaments again. As for fear some fans have about Nadal returning, I can only speak for myself and I would love to see Nadal return back to winning form. I am sick to death of the current state of men's tennis at the top. I'm a Fedal fan and it's always fun to see a Nadal in top form even if he's beating the crap out of my favorite player Federer.

+1

I just got back from work so will try to catch Youtube clip of the Verdasco match today (if anyone has a link for the match or highlights, please share - will be most appreciated). I really hope to see some depth and power back. A DTL winner somewhere in there would be a bonus ;) -

P.S: that bagel tho...

From what I did see, Nadal definitely had better depth, power and spin but at the same time, Verdasco was not playing his best.

Zverev will be a huge test to see where he's really at. Exactly the type of player that he doesn't like to face, big weapons on all wings.

Zverev will prob blast him off the court (those fluffy topspin balls are gonna sit up right in his wheelhouse to get crushed) but its great to see Nadal doing better…would love to make Djokovic's life miserable on the clay.

Nadal did look close to being back with wins over Stan and Murray at the end of last year.
This year has been a disaster so far. Hadn't beaten a top 50 player before this tournament right? So not that impressed by wins over Muller and Verdasco, no. Zverev could easily become the next youngster to grab a win over Nadal.

Conditions in IW are suitable for Rafa so let's see if he can gain some some wins this week. People using Zverev as a litmus test really shows the current state of his affairs. at this point I need to see wins against top players over several tournaments for me to believe Rafa is back.
