The "when are you guys gonna catch up" bit. Hopefully never. :p surely as a barca fan you see where I'm coming from? Or is the "more then a club" stuff just a myth?
It's definitely not a myth. :) I was joking around a bit because you and maybe Arsenal are now the only big English teams who haven't had mega transfer fees on one player or big summer spending sprees. It's like you are not doing the current "popular thing" nowadays that other English giants do.

Be different if he was coming in during his prime like cold night hater Di Maria.

potential lineup.

The defence and midfield 2 looks a lot better. Not sure about the front 4 though if I'm honest, on paper it looks scary, but it looks a bit like fantasy football to me. Interesting to see how it works in reality though!

Yeah, almost like the 236(I think) formation that Jeff Stelling is planning to use for his fantasy football team this year. Crazy mind bender. :p

Only Ramos and Lahm left, 150 million will do the trick, that's not much money, no? :D

I've liked Ramos for a long time, but he lost cool points because of what happened last season when we were linked with him.

I want to see Darmian make the rb position his own. Of course, we will have to see what Jose thinks of him.

Haha it does a bit! Mkhitaryian out wide seems strange, especially with Martial on the other side. That's not a lot of width in the wide positions, especially as Jose is known for not liking his full backs getting too far forward.

Guessing he's hoping they'll be tight at the back and one of the front 4 will produce a moment of magic to win games.

A bit outside of the Premier League stuff now...

Blond Messi had a great game against Sampdoria. Two goals and one assist in a 3-2 win that won Barcelona a Joan Gamper Cup.

Sevilla away are the next opponent on Sunday. It's time for the Spanish Super Cup.

Going to be hopefully the last season where United start their matches 10 vs 11 (Rooney being the obvious handicap).

Totally agree, whenever I've seen Mkhitaryan in the hole/number 10.. He's been incredible. He scores goals for fun and creates a lot of chances. Sticking him out wide is a huge waste.

Put him where Rooney is and find a winger from somewhere would improve that potential lineup massively imo.

He is a winger too. It's not Mata we are talking about, Mkhi isn't wasted that way if he is put on the sides.

Depay and Lingard weren't included in that potential line-up, one of them can play on the wing if Mkhi is put in the middle instead of Wazza.

#Pogbanned :D

Pity he was clumsy in the last Coppa Italia matches, but since he only had one training since the Euro final, I don't think he would have made his debut against Bournemouth even if he was available.

Meanwhile, ChelseaFansChannel made a video during the Community Shield. Some lady was asking random Man United fans to spell Ibrahimovic (and Mkhitaryan). None of them managed it, not even the ones who already bought his jersey. :D Some little kid who supports Leicester managed to do it however.

Shame on you guys!

I don't think he's good out wide, just another player. Teams have always been happy to see him drift wide to get the ball, he can't cause much damage out there. Him out wide and Rooney in the middle is weakening two positions imo.

Mkhitaryan behind Zlatan and Lingard out wide? (or Depay as you mention, fingers crossed he gets it together this year). Now that's something I wouldn't want to play against personally!

Liverpool Man United scheduled for a Monday night, quite surprised that Merseyside police have agreed to that, they almost always schedule it on Saturday/Sunday afternoon for obvious reasons.

Great news for me, last seasons European game on Thursday night was one of the best in terms of atmosphere. Absolutely love the big games under the lights.

Dont miss Match of the Day tomorrow night. Gary Lineker special. ;)

Baily, Shaw and Martial for nearly 122 million looks pretty insane to me, no? :p

They are paying because they are only going to get better. All three of them are young, fast, strong and good in their positions.

Januzaj on loan! I want him to boss at Sunderland and leave Utd for one of the Spannish giants. Could see him fitting in perfectly at Barcelona in a few years. Utd have basically told him to come back when you get better. He should abandon them. He's clearly talented, LVG was just a complete fool and ruined a lot of players.

Recently promoted Hull City and probably the main contender for relegation defeated champions of England Leicester City 2-1 in season's opener. EPL unpredictability on display immediately on the first match.

Runners-up Tottenham held at Goodsion Park.

Ex-Red Devil McNair scored a late own goal on his Sunderland debut to gift Pep an unconvincing debut win with City.

Spurs really should have beaten Everton, that new signing Jansen missed a couple of sitters in the second half. Hull Leicester was a pretty dire match, but obviously fantastic win for Hull. Man City were below average tbh, still early days though. McNair is an absolute knob, ****ing useless lol.

Yeah, Spurs bottled the final games and managed to finish below them again lol. Especially that Newcastle match on the final day, got thrashed was 5-1 I think.

Yes, my bad. I went by Spurs being the closest chaser to Leicester and totally forgot they had a meltdown in the last several games.

Just checked, they drew against WBA and Chelsea and lost to Southampton and Newcastle. It was comedy seeing them finish below Arsenal again. :D

Even after being sold, McNair is giving us problems by gifting rivals the points...

United win 3-1.

Mata capitalized on the defensive mistake, nice to know he isn't going anywhere. Rooney unimpressive but his header puts him now only 3 goals behind Charlton. Ibra gets his second goal in as many games. Bailly solid again as well.

Overall, nice first game.

Good games coming up today. Arsenal-Liverpool, Dortmund-Bayern and Sevilla-Barcelona.

Two signings that were given time to impress (Bailly and Ibrahimovic) have made a good start. Mkhi needs to start and play more. Can't wait to see Pogba on Friday.

Reports are saying City have agreed personal terms with Claudio Bravo. I don't like the idea of selling our regular La Liga goalkeeper at all. It will leave us with only Ter Stegen and Matip.

I hope Ter Stegen won't concede a goal from the halfway line tonight like he did in the previous Super Cup...

I bet @TheMuzziah is going crazy. hahahah

I see myself and Emperor have the same idea.

All jokes aside, I probably would have been happy with a 1-0. Vital to not lose points against teams you should be beating, especially at this early stage. Away from home first game. Good stuff.

You really sold on the story about Mata being assured of his future at the club? The past proves that whenever someone receives such reassurances - be it player or coach - they are usually sent packing.

A shame but I also never warmed to him. He's too nice.

I am. He is in the manager's plans and has done a good job in this short period that's pre-season and two competitive games. Unless Mou is desperate for another big signing in these two weeks, and even then it's not sure, I don't see Mata leaving now.

Schweinsteiger is the one that is certain to leave.

Absolutely ****ing sweet, not to mention Murray winning in an absolutely cracking final in the Olympics bronze medal match wasn't bad either, good to see the 100m too, pretty damn good day of sport on the whole. You go to the game then did you? Must've been good.

Drops a keeper because he can't play centre back and plays his fullbacks as central midfielders..

Feels like I've left Football Manager on the laptop and my 3 year old has run amok.

Well he does tend to make it work. So power too him. Certainly reinvented 5 ft 7 Mascherano as a pretty damn good centre back. Think that was him who started that off wasn't it? They looked pretty **** but I've no doubt they'll improve. See no reason to change my mind about them winning the league this season.

Was kind of a cop out. Was just a pair of shorts not underwear. Was quite funny seeing him do the analysis like that for a bit but he said 'I'll present match of the day in my undies', not 'I'll present 2 segments of match of the day, in shorts.' Not the same.

Wonder if anyone here is with me when I say Arsenal don't need a striker. Always go on about it but really I don't think it is that important. They have goals all over the pitch and Giroud is pretty underrated in my view. Gets basically a goal every two games and his link up play is superb, perfect for their style. To be honest I think basically all the pieces to win the league are there. Have a very good side and a good squad. Think Sanchez is a fantastic player, one of the very best players in the league, think it's mostly down to their mentality. They've got goals, they've got a decent defence, very good keeper, great midfield.

Think Wenger has to be responsible, what a chance last year was to win the league and they couldn't come close, just choked as usual. As great a manager as Wenger is and I do think Wenger is an excellent manager, just think it's gone stale. Guess this may be his last season as his contract's into it's last year.

Anyone agree? Don't think I've seen any Arsenal fans on these boards, I don't think it would hurt to sign a striker but I wouldn't see it making much difference, or that important, it wouldn't mean the difference between winning the title and not, even if it got them in position for the title which I don't think it would, they'd choke as ever because that's what they do now.

Yeah Murray winning the gold was the icing on the cake really. I wish I did mate, don't do as many aways as I used to in the past, haven't got the time anymore, pretty much relying on spares these days for the away tickets. Thinking for Palace next away if I'm lucky. I've got all the home games sorted (until New Years) though, so Leicester will be my official debut! :p

Yeah a really excellent match as well. ****ing sweet!

You got a season ticket or you just buy tickets to each match as it comes? Don't get to go to many myself, used to live in Liverpool until a year ago so I got to some games, haven't been for ages though, had a mate who had a season ticket though and sometimes his Dad was away and or wasn't able to go to games so I got to go along then.

Haven't got a season ticket, no (and it's not worth the wait imo) I've got the light membership though (20 quid or so/year iirc) which basically gives you access to the various ticket sales, depending on your previous history of course. There are 2 bulk sales for the members, one in July for all the home games until new years and one in November for the rest of the season. If you've got 14+ (although think this season with the new main stand it was 12) credits from the previous season you're pretty much guaranteed a ticket for every home game, besides the c category games ie hull, Burnley and Middlesbrough. you go online, pick your seats etc.,this sale is pretty simple coz a relatively low number of people (compared to the other sales) have got the required credits. Getting the c cat games is a ****ing nightmare though, they are sold to all members not taking into account previous attendance at all, had one one hour wait just for ****ing Hull last month. You've got the late availability sales as well, 2 weeks before each game I think, so if you fail to get a ticket in the bulk sales you can try that, has worked well for me in the past. They also introduced the local sales this year, so if you live in Liverpool or the surrounding areas it's a pretty good option, although the number of tickets available is quite low from what I've heard. So your best bet would probably be to get yourself a membership, the cheapish one (light membership it's called) and then try your luck in the bulk sales + late availability, even with 0 credits from last season I'm pretty sure youll get to at least 4-5 games especially if we (God forbid) have got nothing to play for at the end of the season, for example Chelsea last year went down to 0 credits (think it was on a weekday as well though). If you get to more then 5 this year you'll have a good chance for even the big games next season. Last option would be your towns supporters club, well depending where you live that is. They help you with spares, organise the aways dates etc at least the Merseyside one does.

RIP Dalian Atkinson.

Remember him from the first season premier league mostly, when Villa made an attempt to be great and win the premier league, along with Norwich.

And I was hoping for Gary Lineker to have some speedos on or a thong, but at least he half went through with it. Better than ignoring it altogether. Those pants/shorts will sell. :p

Only one win by more than one goal on matchday #1.

It will be odd having Friday night football in England, I don't remember it in the past.

Costa should have been off. New season, same old, Costa being Costa and Chelsea being Chelsea. As for Conte, haven't really watched him or his teams before but he does look like a bellend. Will fit right in there if that's the case. Pathetic celebrations.
