Djoko screaming at the ball kid...

The problem with players getting their own towels is pretty obvious: it'd take time and slow things down..

Djokovic obviously has problems with anger management. He's quick-tempered, so with stress in the mix you get such outbursts. Behavior like this is why I don't agree that Novak is the most gracious in defeat. It's cool to be able to smile and hug it out with your opponent when you lost, but it doesn't erase being pissed off and acting out if things don't go your way during matches.

BTW, was it really a kid he yelled at? The linesmen and girls on the opposite side look mature so it's possible Novak didn't lash out on a teen. Not that it'd make it ok, but at least less awful because a grownup person can respond.

Yep. As John Lennon said, it's the violent people that go on about peace. Novak probably doesn't like this side of him either, hence the whole yoga and Pepe thing.

I'm not quite sure he yells "towel" tough. Sounds like it and he seems to be gesturing for a towel, but he could be yelling something else and making a gesture of frustration, not quite sure.

Unfortunately he has form for this sort of thing.

Wow.

Yeah it was disappointing reaction. Didn't like when I saw it.

Bet this will be brought up an excessive number of times from now on though. That unfortunate Miami moment from few years back still lives on.

What was that Miami moment? What Mainad posted?

Nadal is all bottled up and takes it all on himself (unfortunately for him) but Federer absolutely has outbursts of negative emotions. It's actually normal.

Self control isn't a bad thing...

Whether this is acceptable behavior or not, I just wish the narrative of "He's only hated because everyone already picked their side in the Fedal war before he showed up" would end. He's never been embraced by the tennis community at large because he's just not likable, no matter how hard he tries. It's been 11 years since he won his first major, he's had more than enough time to get new fans of his own.

I thought his impressions back in the day were kinda funny, and he's had some very gracious moments too. He's not a bad guy by any stretch. I'm sure he does great charity work and is a great father. But that's all outweighed by the nonsense on court when picking a favorite player.

Very few players are like Rafa. He is exceptional when it comes to behavior on court.
Yep, yep, yep. I would say Rafa, Fed, and then maybe Delpo. I believe we had a thread recently that proved Rafa has never broken a racquet on court. Everyone has some kind of frustration and outbursts, but Rafa rarely even screams or has any outburst. It was quite weird seeing him yell at himself and punch his racquet the other day against Fognini.

Its really impressive. Not even swearing.
I would never manage to behave that good. All that pressure and emotions.

It shows that the smiley guy is fake. I mean even if he didn't have these anger spasms, it was still obvious that his happy moments are fake based on the smile (usually condescending) on his face. It reveals a lot, not genuine at all.

His smile is super condescending. Same with the thumbs up.

Just not a nice person.

never seen Rafa or Fed ask for crowd support either...

He after all was upset about himself missing that dolly of a volley. He wasn't yelling at any ball kids. Posters here like to make up their own story. You only have to dig up their personal lives to find how badly they yell at others while driving or at other family members.

It is quite obvious he's talking/screaming at someone a bit to the right and up from the kid. Probably his box. The tirade continues even after he got the towel and direction becomes even more obvious.
It's unfortunate the kid was near...

As far as the hand gesture's concerned it looks more like his arm is shaking with anger than producing the "wipe face" gesture.

Also, his eyes look aimed towards the crowd so I would assume he's looking at his team and whilst it sounds vaguely like "towel" I'm not hearing, nor seeing his mouth forming the "el" at the end of that and his body language after the shout is that of someone who's just vented, not someone impatient with a ballkid.

All in all I don't think it's what we're being told it is.

I'm not sure this is fatal for Djokovic. It looks more like twitter trolling from an admitted non-fan.

1. Not even sure it is the towel mannarism he is doing (isn't he just screaming into his hand?)

2. No indication the verbalization is directed at a single person (again, screaming/looking into his palm?).

3. We can't see his line of vision at all from this capture. We can't even imply his gaze like some people did using the Miami footage.

For Nadal? I think it's obvious that it's terrible for his psyche. Is that even self control or control by uncle? Sure, one should not just go in total meltdown modes all the time like Murray or even more extreme like Kyrgios, but if you never let negative emotions out they're going to hurt you..

The moralest thing would of course be to banish negative emotions altogether, but that is unfortunately not compatible with peak competitiveness, such is the mug workings of the hoomin mind. I recall Lem's Return from the Stars expands on it nicely - total betrization made everyone (hence everything) comfy and soft.

Its other ways to get it out. For example being on his boat, jumping in the water, to have other things to think about and do what doesnt involve humans. Water seem to be the element Rafa relaxes and recharge his batteries. Its very typical the part of the world I live in, we use nature as therapy. Specially for men here it seems like a thing they do.

I obviously meant on court. It's not an option to go on boat or swim after you miss a sitter or something similar.

It's hard to say it's hurt his game and not the opposite. Rafa's whole game is very controlled imo.
He gets moody whenthings aren't going his way but doesn't have outbursts. I see that as a good thing relly.

Real men can control their emotions.

Kind of off topic, but do any ball kids wear gloves? Latex medical type gloves.

I see players actually blow their noses in the towels as well, that is fvcking gross.

He used to beat himself with a racquet over the knees and legs quite hard. It's way better to yell it out.

These players are high on emotions and adrenaline, cannot expect them to act like robots. We're humans, suppressing emotions isn't good sometimes.
Can have emotion without directing it at undeserving people such as towel boys and the crowd...

this was not a good look but this gif annoys me because the angle makes it seem like he hit the ball into the crowd and close to the guy whose hat came off, but you can see they all look up and away towards the ball. however rightfully so he got a warning and its not something i condemn.

you are correct that federer does have outbursts, i think many forget he actually started out like that and was a mess during his juniors from what I've heard

ball kid should towel whip him in the face and see Nole's response. Someone should volunteer just to irritate these entitled pricks.
True justice would have been served if the ballboy had leisurely walked over to the water cooler, soaked one end of the towel to get it nice and heavy, and then snapped Djokovic right on the ass with it. Would have brought the house down.

I don’t look for moral role models by watching tennis, Djokovic or Federer or anyone who plays this gentleman/woman sports. But definitely terrible behavior considering how many kids idolize them

Yeah releasing emotion is human. But directing it towards kids isn’t. There’s no excuse for this.
