What Does Maria Sharapova Have To Do To Beat Serena Williams At The US Open?

If Maria cannot beat an older slower overweight player she deserves to lose... 18 losses in a row. Pathetic!!

How do PEDs or steroids could help Sharapova to put more spin on her strokes, make her service technique better, help to overcome her permanent choking or at least have plan B, I wonder.

Well they did help a 68 yr old in greece walk up stairs 5 seconds faster after quad bypass heart surgery.

Seeing how sharapova's avg ralley length was 2.3 strokes, you could see how additional stamina provided by this 50 yr old medicine would benefit her greatly :)

Maria Sharapova will play Serena Williams in the first round of the US Open. We know the history of this matchup. Serena has a 19-2 record against her and she's beaten Maria 18 times in a row. In fact, Williams has won 29 of the last 30 sets against Sharapova. Maria has struggled a bit in her comeback and this doesn't seem like a particularly great spot for her. Facing the greatest hardcourt player of all time who has dominated you for the last 15 years at her home slam is a tall task.

Sharapova has been criticized over the years for her lack of tactical adjustments against Serena. She's gonna stand where she wants to stand and hit how she wants to hit. Sharapova's gonna play her game. But if you were her coach, what would you tell her to do against Serena? How can Maria Sharapova beat Serena Williams next week?

Sharapova has a one match winning streak over Serena, who quit in their last match because she wasn't playing well and Sharapova was.

Sharapova doesn't need to do anything different in her 1st round match against Serena. What Sugarpova does best, blasting balls in the corners, is now a weakness for Serena. Serena's movement, flexibility, and speed has dropped a notch or two in the last couple of years....old age and giving birth...as well as too many HoHo's.
Serena is rumoured to have back problems. Sharapova will win this one with bakery products for Serena to feast on.

Any change this post will age well?

As I said in the USO/WTA thread, when Sharapova walks out on a court with Serena, she genuinely believes she can win. She really believes that. She's not going out there looking to lose. Time after time--like a rehearsed stage play, Sharapova's game, behavior and posturing all scream that. Belief alone is not enough to win, but she is experienced enough (and knows Serena's game) to win if she forgets the media noise about her relationship with Serena.

As I predicted in the other thread, I will say Sharapova in three, but she will not make it to week two.

If you were familiar with TVs match picks for Serena you'll see she operates on a reverse jinx theory: She picked against SW in every major of 2015 and was finally proved 'right' when SW lost her USO (and with it the Grand Slam) to Roberta Vinci.

No one can see any such thing on the basis of one study paid for by the drug company itself.

Thats what i dont get about you, factual in some discussion, philosophical in others.

Its been avail over the counter for the past 50 yrs. If it worked, everyone would be taking it, logic just isnt there with this one.

It can be said that in Maria Sharapova adult life, she hasn't beaten Serena Williams. Adult Sharapova is 0-20...while being one of two women on Tour having a Career Slam.

:-D:-D:-D:-D embarrassing

Sharapova's carreer is over, destroyed by American politics intruding into sport.
Yes, such a shame they had to stick their noses in it and by doing so denying the pimply-chinned gawk the chance to sport a more respectable 3-18 head to head record vs. the vastly superior American.

'Involved' or not Williams treated the druggie-from-russkie the way a dog treats a fire hydrant: . dismissively tinkling on it...

..tinkle, tinkle faded star
popped her pills and then got barred
played serena - promptly got charred

the one-track hack with her U.S. green card...

She'd need an equal amount of androgynous hormones, testosterone/androstenedione as Serena. Sadly for Sharapova, she'd have to supplement for that ...we all know where supplements got her last time

She could take as much as she wants, still won't matter.

I think my game matches up well against her. I love playing her. I think it’s fun. I love her intensity. For whatever reason, I love playing. I just have the time of my life."

That is some next level trolling. Talk about pouring salt in a wound.

I felt sorry for poor Masha taking a beatdown of those proportions.
i'm not a Maria fan by any means, but i do share your sentiments that it was pretty pathetic watching her get demolished in such a fashion knowing just how many people would've been tuning in for that match. She got completely embarrassed in under 1 hour... i did feel bad for her a bit.

If you (Serena) could match Sugarpova's intensity every point, instead of every other set, then maybe you'd be sitting on 30+ slams.

Just too many injuries for sweet Maria. She'll be back though. She owes Serena a beat down like she gave her a couple years ago in the Wimbledon final.

If Sharapova thinking skills on the court could match her legendary intensity, she would be sitting only 10+ sets against Serena. But Maria is already putting out feelers that she wants out. Don't be surprise that she announces her retirement at the end of the year. She can beat Serena to the Hall of Fame.

I laughed when I looked up the score this morning. All that hyping of the match by ESPN and then get's breadsticked twice. Also, the Giorgi thread about whether she can be a slam champion and then got beat down 1 and 0 lol.

Her game won't do it, hitting harder doesn't help, using the shriek attack doesn't help, PED's didn't get her over the hump. The only thing left is bringing a hammer to court and using it on the changeover.
