After the US Open the margin between Nadal and Djokovic can only increase ... now it stands at 1010 points ... Nadal has to win at least 1010 points ...

Where ?
Nadal can add ~3000 pts in theory, from ATP500s, Paris and WTF.

No, he is the 2000 point defending champion ... he can not get more that 2000 points that he already has ...

Djokovic can add 3500 in theory, play Hamburg, Kutzbuehl ... In reality ... game over ...

How was the neck affect him? Seems to be his BH motion was a bit stiff/unnatural.

Also it looks (or so I hope) Covid-19 didnt have much effect on his cardio/stamina.

Good win.

Mainly the serve as it requires him to arch his neck back where the injury supposedly is, as far as groundstrokes go, probably only a but of discomfort. Luckily Djokovic is arguably the best returner and the world and can break his opponent even if his serve falters.:)

Especially the kick serve. That's why he goes after his second serve (hard and flat) almost like another first serve. If you notice, we've seen the kick serve far fewer times in the last 12 months. I remember Djokovic having a really effective kick serve (lots of arch and pace) under Becker. Lately, Djokovic's kick serves have not had the oomph they used to have.

@uscwang is right here. The events currently being played until the end of the year are USO, Rome, RG, 500s, Paris, WTF. Nadal cannot gain from Rome or RG, but stands to gain from WTF, Paris, and 500s. Nadal can add 3000 points, but not to his current tally, but to his current tally - 400, as WTF points will drop. Likewise Djokovic will drop 200 points.

Thus the gap between the two is really 1210 points, and Nadal can gain at most 3000. He's not likely to play a 500, so in all likelihood that's 2500. If Djokovic gets to the USO final, it's all but mathematically impossible, and with a USO win he's secured YE#1 from Nadal, but Thiem still has the ability to catch up.

Thiem can still pass him at that point, I believe, and with strong showing in Rome/RG he'll secure #1 mathematically.

What if Timmy wins USO and RG? Just for the sake of argument. ;)

Mathematically, it’s not secure, but realistically I think YE#1 is in the bag. Thiem isn’t consistent enough to overtake Novak, even if he adds no more points this year. Nadal will probably play WTF and maybe Paris at the most in the indoor season, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays nothing after RG, and even if he does he’s not dominating it enough to overtake Djoker. A win at the US Open would be the nail in the coffin, but even now I think it’s pretty much settled.

Djokovic's letter: They don't respect us!
https://www.b92.net/sport/usopen2020/tema-dana.php?nav_id=1726069

Novak Djokovic sent an extensive letter to the tennis public in which he talks about his intentions to found a new Association of Players.
As it is known, the best tennis player in the world is currently the president of the Players' Council, which he claims is not respected at all by the ATP and Grand Slams.
Therefore, he says, he is ready to embark on a historic journey with the new Union of Players.

"Dear players and friends,

"As you know, I have had a blessed tennis career. I have no other interests than the sustainability and future of tennis. Working with our colleague Vasek Pospisil and a dozen of you over the years, we have tried to represent the interests of players at the ATP and Grand Slams. , even though I was number one in the world, we were rejected. They slammed our door. They didn't respect us.
I have participated in tennis politics through the Players Council for the last 10-15 years. I saw 4-5 different presidents and many representatives of the ATP Board and management. Know that the Players Association is not a new project. That idea has been around for 30 years. Many players from different generations have tried to form an association or federation in order for players to have a better representation in the tennis ecosystem. There are many different factors and reasons why this did not happen, but probably the main one is the lack of uniqueness. The ATP structure is imperfect for players. I don’t think the ATP structure helps players. It has been proven many times in the past that this system is against players. "

Djokovic once again notes that the players are not respected.

"I don't blame anyone in particular. Various presidents and managements have tried to do different things over the years. And of course, some good things have been done for our Tour, no doubt. However, I think most of you who are there would agree to be players they are not treated as they should in the whole system. Many times we are not consulted about what we think and how we feel about certain issues. For example, last night, the ATP CEO decided in five minutes to cancel the game all day in the tournament. No one asked , both me and the other players competing in the tournament. This is very wrong and shows that they have no respect. This is, of course, just one example. There are many.I was part of the Council because it was a platform, more precisely still is the only basis through which we can fight for our rights. "
Novak says it is not easy to be president in a system that does not work.
"But for those who know how the structure works, you know that bigger players don't make decisions. Representatives of our board are the ones who make the decisions and we choose them, but it's happened a lot of times in the last ten years in some big decisions that go against most players And as you know, the other 3 board members are tournaments. In 95% of cases we have a conflict of interest between the player and the tournament.Due to ATP bylaws, for many decisions it is necessary to have a ‘super majority’ of votes on the Board, but this often does not happen because players and tournaments don't have common goals. So nothing happens because you don't have a super majority. And in certain voting circumstances where you don't need a super majority, the president is usually the one who has to break an even number of votes and prose which side he supports. imagine how much politics is involved there. I've seen it all. It's not easy to be president in a system that just doesn't work. "

Djokovic explains how everything will work.

"The players' association will have its first trustees. The association will most likely (initially) not have an executive position to make decisions in the tennis ecosystem, but it will also gradually change. We have to start somewhere. We have to show our unity and strength. Not because we want to. we fight, but because we want to be consulted, valued, respected in all the big decisions that happen in our sport, and so far this has not been the case.We all know how many agents, people from the Federation, business people were on the board and / or in other influential positions in the sport, it has worked in its own interest for decades, not worrying too much about the players. It is a monopoly and in order to change something in favor of the players, we must show unity. "

In the end, Novak concludes.

"My friends,

I have none of this. I only promote the interests of the players and our sport. I hope you understand and we want you to join us on this historic journey.

Thanks, Novak

P.S. It is obvious that Vasek and I will resign from the Players 'Council as soon as we officially establish the Players' Association. "

People are already putting asterisks around tournaments hosted during this time? :/
Maybe they wanted to say it's the title he completed the double set with or that Cincy wasn't played at its usual venue this year.
So Goran is OK with the "best coach" part. Humble.
BTW, who has coached a player or players to the most GS titles?
Guess it is Toni Nadal?
Toni unless I'm not aware of another coach that coached multiple ATGs.
I guess Vajda surpassed him since Toni stopped working with Nadal when he got to 16 Slams.

After winning the second set against Dzumhur, Novak angrily yelled something. The guy doing the fake crowd noise then played some booing (I wonder if it's a recording of actual boos towards Djokovic :-D)

Moral of the story is, even without a crowd, Djokovic still manages to get booed

What a comprehensive match from Djokovic tonight. To draw age comparisons, that level was basically the equivalent of Fed’s 2014 Shanghai performance against him.
