Tecnifibre HDX Tour replacement

String gurus......I've done several searches and used the TW "similar strings" tool but still don't know the best replacement for HDX Tour 16 strings. I've seen people here on the forum say HDMX is the replacement for HDX Tour but then I've read that HDMX doesn't play the same as HDX Tour (supposedly HDMX is more muted). BTW...I use HDX Tour in my mains and Revolve (about to try Ghost Wire) in the crosses. FWIW...I'm currently computer rated at 4.5 but played at a 5.0 level prior to turning 50 a number of years ago. I hit with fairly heavy spin off both sides and don't have a problem if my strings don't last more than 8 hours (I string my own rackets). Any recommendations? Lastly...I like the feel (crispness) of HDX Tour so I'm not interested in muted or mushy feeling strings. Thanks!

FireWire Boost. (FireWire mains/ ghost wire crosses)

I am a fan of both HDX Tour (i think it feels like more durable version of X1 Bi-Phase) and Tier One Boost. I have the black Firewire 1.25mm / Ghostwire 1.22mm in one frame, Hyper G Soft 1.25mm / GW 1.22mm in another, Tecnifibre HDMX 1.35mm / YPTA 1.25 mm in a third. I can hit with any of those strings.

Played 6 league USTA matches on an 18+ team going 6-0 on that team this fall and used HGS / GW for five of those matches. I used HGS full bed in one of the matches. But I went back to Tier One Boost after the season, which is what I used most of the summer, and don't see me using HGS / GW or HDMX / YPTA again personally. I just need to understand those two string setups as a stringer who recommends stings to clients. After 8 years of using VCT, I honestly feel TierOne Boost is a better string set up for me and any client who can take the increased stiffness over VCT 1.30mm. Yes, I wrote that.

I string my own frames and have 60 packs of HDX Tour 1.35mm remaining since it was discontinued and replaced by HDMX. HDMX is certainly closer to HDX Tour than FireWire as they are very different strings. But if me winning a set or match meant I got a big paycheck, no question, TierOne Boost would be in all of my frames. TierOne Boost is a fantastic string setup and I will be buying more reels of FireWire and Ghostwire. It is truly a remarkable string setup IMO.

Having read your opinion of VCT elsewhere, that's high praise! Putting Boost on my list...

some of my clients can't take the increased stiffness of TO Boost over VCT. But honestly I feel get more spin and more control out of Boost. Could I play with TO Boost, VCT or HGS/GW? Yes.

probably played the best match of my life with HGS/GW against a 32 year old former Div 2 player last week. But the last three days I have used BOOST and don't reach for the HGS/ GW or VCT frames.

I encourage my clients who like VCT to try Boost for free. One former Citadel player switch to Boost and loved it.

The only other option I could recommend to replace HDX Tour other than HDMX is 1.35mm X1 Biphase, as those two stings feel the closest to me of all Tecnifibre stings.

Thanks g4D. I'll try some HDMX and maybe some X1 1.35 as well (despite the hideous color LOL). What are your thoughts about Triax as a replacement for HDX Tour?

BTW...I'm also in the Charleston area (MP) and saw one of your customers, WS, at Whipple today. We used to play on a team together many years ago.

Small Small World. WS breaks strings faster than any client I have. If you need some HDX Tour, I have 60 packs of 1.35mm. WS says he can't tell the difference between Triax, HDMX and HDX Tour. I was supposed to hit singles at Whipple on Monday, but a teammate is still injured. Ask WS for my cell if you need some 1.35mm HDX Tour. I couldn't send you a PM, but ask WS for his stringer's cell if you want it, or you can send me PM.

Thanks man! I'll text WS for your cell number and take you up on your offer for a couple of sets of HDX Tour. I'll still try HDMX and maybe Triax too... but at least I know I'll have some of the string I know I like in a hybrid. Also....I used VCT 1.30 (FB) in my Prestige Pro's exclusively for a few years. I love the stuff (and it's price) but it doesn't hold tension all that well. I actually haven't tried it in my Tour 95's so I may give that a try as well. Thanks again.

Funny I ran into WS this morning. He handed me another frame with another broken man. HDX Tour 1.35 mm/ YPTA He told me my name came up with another 4.5 needing a stringer.

If you have three frames, let me give you:
1) Tecnifibre HDMX 1.35 mm / 1.27 mm Ghostwire 2) HDX Tour 1.35mm / 1.27mm Ghostwire and 3) TIer One Boost 1.25mm/Ghostwire 1.22mm

You can try all three of those setups for free. No labor, no cost for the strings. I don't charge clients until they pick a setup they like. All demo setups are free. I don't want anyone feeling pressure to pick something they don't like. Then it's $15 labor. In addition, I provide pick and delivery of frames in MP, IOP, SI, DI, and Park Circle. I play out of MPR and LTP DI

TO Boost is a little stiffer than VCT but holds tension longer. FireWire comes in Black and Red. Ghostwire is a pearl white.
