New Yonex Vcore (for 2020 or 2021 ?)

No. Pro stocks are glossy.
That sucks! :cautious:

Why is Yonex only offering the crappy matte finish to the public? Gloss plays so much different. It's like night and day to me personally. Matte finish always feels muted and had much less pop than the same frame with a gloss finish.

Just hit with 98 for 10 mins. It was strung with PTP1.30, so I put it down until I get it restrung later today. Will have to be a quick test as I have to return these restrung with PTP1.30.
Initial impressions, the thicker beam is noticeably beefier. I can feel the mass more in the lower half of the hoop, so it's stable and it feels like it has a higher than 14 twist weight. Will hit on Playsight court, so can probably do a dirty test of power and spin vs my old data on the VC98. Feel is more muted/dull than my VC98+.

Talking about yonex... how do the VCORE pro 2016 racquets compare to the their 2019 counterparts ?

Whats so bad about PTP130?

The ‘16 aka navy, to me was slightly more crisp. The ‘19 aka green, was more muted. I would choose the ‘19 just for the HD version, and VDM of course.

I just tried to order vcore pro 97 HG and the store told me that it is no longer available. Could this be a signal for a new vcore pro? Any rumors?

Well the VC98 wasn't exactly great feeling as a racquet, but was adequate. It lacked the crispness of the SV (which is deader). It's a funny one because the spin came from the open string pattern and whippiness with the SV, then it became less whippy with the VC 2018, despite all the tech, but the more open pattern gave it good grip, but was a bit too bouncy a stringbed.

Guessing that’s the VDM talking. Ezone 2020 was noticeably more muted than anything I have hit with before.

They were old and used. And I'm accustomed to thinner gauges. Can't give my opinion without the same string.

64RA on the VCORE 95. Maybe it will play in between the SV and the current version. What would you guys think of that?
With the SV95 being 65RA and the ‘18 VC95 being at 62RA, I think the ‘20 VC95 would feel like maybe between 58-60RA with the VDM? 64RA isn’t as bad, but with the VDM, it would make it feel softer, imo.

This must be where they got the idea for the new color scheme ;)

Keep mind the new 95 has wider beam: 21.5mm / 22mm / 21mm
The previous one was: 21mm / 21mm / 20mm

That might not seem like a big deal to some, but if you've tried the VCore 98, you can def feel the difference (in your hands whilst holding it and whilst playing), and that comes in at: 22mm / 22mm / 21mm, so it's closer to the VC98 than the (old) VC95 when it comes to beam width.

My guess is that they want to bring the new VC95 closer to the 6.1 95, which is a roundish constant 22 mm beam, and a reference frame for pro players.

The SV98 was extremely stiff. And this is coming from someone who has used stiff frames in the past (Pure Control Swirly, Hyper ProStaff 6.1, etc). And I am also a fan of 16x20.

But the SV98 was unusable IMO. Some do like it, but it’s a small group.
I love SV98, for me it's 10x better then Vcore 98. Sure, it lacks a bit of feel but makes up for it with raw power and spin. Vcore 98 felt a little bit muted, more like Ezone line. I guess i prefer 16x20 racquets because i loved Vcore Tour 97 which was also 16x20.

I also doubt they're both switching as these seem to be quite different frames and this is a big step. And then finding new strings and tensions is a real job for a pro player with no time for playing around with equipment. And then two players switching at the same time... Of course, due to corona, they seem to have more time than ever to try out stuff like this. However, Shapo seems to be more consistent and I don't think he is risking this by switching racquets.

I also like the SV95 a lot. It has great controllable pop, nice feel (more about the strings) and very good spin and stability for a 95. I don't like thicker beams, so I don't bother the new one.

You can buy the weight you want, at $300+. The Japan only Yonex custom fit service has can build you one that's 310g +/- 2g at 310mm, which is a perfect basic frame to customize. It's like Angell lite, but with the Yonex QC! I will be hitting with the VC98/100 2021 this week. Will see how much it has changed from the previous 2 versions.

Pity you can't customise the paint job. It's as ugly as the north end of a horse headed south.

Sigh, turns out the Playsight was out on the court we had. So no verifiable comparison data and I couldn't do swing weight etc measurements at the shop cos well there's a pandemic going on. I can only compare the feel and string bed response to a VC98+, since I only played with the VC98 a couple of times when it first came out.
Racquets: 2021 Vcore 98.21.
Strings: Volkl Cyclone 18L mains and Pro Red Code Wax cross 18g, 50/45.
Measurements: 323g/328mm strung, G/L3
Added mods: Switched out butt cap with 10g of putty to get more h/l balance. Wilson Pro overgrip. Extra silicone rubber ring Final weight 342g, 31.7mm
Feel: Most notable is the muted feel. With the 2018 VC98.18, I distinctly remember if contact was in the center of the sweetspot, I could just feel the pocketing, even though the string bed was quick and bouncy. The SV98 had a lot less feel, cos of the stiffness and quick response of the string bed. VC98.21 isn't a hybrid of the 2, the dwell time was definitely bouncy like the VC98.18, but muffled.
It also felt beefier, esp in the throat. Response is stiffer than the VC98.18, and the flex is different. The VC98.21 flexes more in the top hoop. It does play a little stiffer, but the feedback is muted so I can't say it was significant, and barely noticeable.
Swing and contact feels a bit bulkier in the center of the racquet (this was before I found out it was 1 mm thicker around the throat) and the sweet spot is still the same. In a way, it responds like a thinner Ezone. Plays quite stable, especially overheads and volleys. I'd say it's around 14.3+ twist weight range.
Powerwise, I'd say there is a tad more due to the added bulk and stiffness. I'd existing VC98.18 users won't have too much of an adjustment phase to the VC98.21. Plays nothing like the SV series and more like the Ezone.
I'll be getting the 95 and 100 later, and will report on those.
(*edited my data typos)

I think if they let people pre-order before xmas, there'll be enough sales lost for stock clearance that it's not a good idea. You're not going to impulse buy now because you're locked in for a new racquet in a month. They want to squeeze out every possible sale to move stock. Looking at the sale prices, I'd say the group is doing well since prices have maintained, probably due to reduced supply due to corona restrictions from Jan-Apr.

Maybe they did not expect so many orders?

I placed mine. I got a confirmation that they will ship it on 15.1.

-question
-on the sv98, what strings do you normally use? also tension
-from brief hitting and reading, the sv is a bit harsh (stiffer layup), so im thinking softer string and lowish tension would make sense, 2me!?!

...... Wonder what it will play like with Poly Tour Rev.
-i am trying to get an approximated answer to this from @Niko63
-reviews and reports tend to suggest that the new 2021 poly.tour.rev is a stiff string, so a "stiff" string on a "stiff" racquet, would not be my choice
-but like i said, this would be an approximation/deduction, hitting experience might be different!!??

I know the question wasn’t for me, but I use the SV98 as well. I’m still experimenting with string set ups, but right now I’m using Gamma AMP Jet 16L at 23.5kg/52lbs. I’m thinking of trying out the Isospeed Cream 16L, Head Lynx Tour Champagne 16, Yonex Poly Tour Drive 16L, Gosen G Tour 3 16L, Babolat RPM Power Bronze 16, Volkl Cyclone 16L, and Tecnifibre Black Code 16. Depends on the string, I’m going to string between 22.6-25kg/50-55lbs next.

The warehouse group is very happy to oblige! haha I resisted and hopefully will continue to resist racquet purchases for now. I have to work on my game for now. I test cos I like to try. But always look for the worst part of the frame first as a defense! Haha

I like my SV98+ quite a bit, but not 10x as much. :D The Vcore has just as much, if not more power, than the SV98. The difference is how it responds to the swing, I think. The SV98+, currently my racquet, is like a predictable bat, hit it and it goes in the direction in a predictable manner, with good power and spin. I don't hit as many dipping cross court top spin, or wrist flick top spin shots, because the dwell time is short and there is little feel/feedback, so it doesn't work as well. In fact, my regular hitting partners have noticed I hit out more with the SV98+, than even when I was in D1!
That said, when I played with the VC98+ during a stretch of competition, I liked the feel, especially on slower clay courts, because I could use drop shots and volleys with ease. Comparing the 2 on Playsight and personal observation, the VC98+ had the fastest groundstroke by 3 mph and 30rpm, but I hit faster and heavier on average with the SV98+, because of the predictability. No competition with the serve, I served slower and less accurate with the VC98+, I think because it wasn't as stiff and the string bed launch angle is higher and slightly less predictable.
I agree that the VC98.21 is more in line with the EZONE line now, especially with the shared technologies of linertech and VDM.

That depends. A stiffer string bed makes the SV series a power but accurate stick. Like most stiffer sticks, even with gut/poly hybrid, the SV98+ still instills confidence to hit out against heavy balls for me. I use Cyclone 18L or VS17g/Luxilon17g gut with Pro Red Code Wax 18g as a cross. The polys I stick to 47-51 mains, -4lbs crosses. Gut I hover around 58-60, -3-5lbs crosses.

maybe that as well. I don't knoow what color stencil to put on blue strings. White stencil or Black stencil. I feel like more often I see black stencil on black or blue strings. Or is a red stencil easily visible on like Blue YPTP...

Do you notice any differences in string spacing with the new Vcore? I've been rediscovering my love for the SV98 and I'm noticing that the stringbed feels relatively dense for a 16 main pattern. So I put the SV98 over a Tecifibre Tfight 300 (a current-gen 98 sq inch 16x19 frame) and holy cow, the 16 mains on the SV98 almost fits entirely inside the inner 14 mains of the Tfight, but at the same time the TFight is REALLY wide with their string spacing. I also put the SV98 over an 18x20 Ultra Tour and the middle mains actually looks pretty close in spacing to each other before the SV98 pulls away towards the sides of the frame. All that to say, a part of me thinks the SV98 string spacing may be more close to an 18x20 and maybe that's why the control is so good for a powerful 16 main pattern and not as loopy/launchy. And I'm also wondering if each update to this line has widened the string spacing to be more in line with the other racquet brands.

It's the same as the VC98.18. The SV 16x20 just squeezes the 20 crosses into the 19 crosses area of the VC. I'm not sure if it's just the cross gaps, but also the flex and weight distribution of the frame that just doesn't suit me as well as the SV. The SV, for all its shortcomings of lack of feel, responds predictably, whippy enough and yet solidly powerful. The VC responds a little too differently, so even though there's probably more grip due to the more open pattern, is stabler and has better feel, it feels less controllable, and I played with the VC98+ for 3 months. Nothing wrong with the racquet at all, just works less well with me.
