5000 days ago Federer won his last US Open title

How many times Federer should have won the US Open after 2008?

It's already 5000 days. He won his GS #13 at the Flushing Meadows on Monday, 8 September 2008. But that was his very last US Open trophy so far.

What happened later?
He's reached:
2 finals (2009, 2015)
3 semifinals (2010, 2011, 2014)
3 quarterfinals (2012, 2017, 2019)
2 fourth rounds (2013, 2018)

with 3 absences (2016, 2020, 2021)

2009 F lost to Del Potro 2-3 (leading 1-0 and 2-1)
2010 SF lost to Djokovic 2-3 (leading 1-0 and 2-1, wasted 2MPs)
2011 SF lost to Djokovic 2-3 (leading 2-0, wasted 2MPs)
2012 QF lost to Berdych 1-3
2013 4R
lost to Robredo 0-3
2014 SF
lost to Cilic 0-3
2015 F
lost to Djokovic 1-3
2017 QF
lost to Del Potro 1-3
2018 4R
lost to Millman 1-3 (leading 1-0)
2019 QF lost to Dimitrov 2-3 (leading 1-0 and 2-1)

What's interesting, in the above matches Roger won only 1 out of 8 tiebreaks played. That was one of the deciding factors.

How many times on these 10 occasions between 2009 and 2019 Federer should have won the title?
What do you think?

2009 was the one that got away. Other than that, while some of his losses were very frustrating because physically and technically the ability to win was there, in the end Federer didn't come close enough to victory again to be talking about more titles that he should've won.

He mostly had back issues by the time the uso came around, and sometimes even before that in Toronto. This makes Djokovic perfect physical health over the same age timeframe even more remarkable.

Should’ve won 2009. 2014 also was a huge missed opportunity, Djokovic lost to Nishikori and Vulturerer didn’t take advantage.

I think he would have won ‘17 and ‘19 if he hadn’t got injured, but those don’t go down as “should”s. ‘10 and ‘11 would have gone just like AO ‘12, and Cilic was incredible in ‘14, so we’re left with ‘09 as the one.

2-3

Should've won in 2009 EASILY too
Should've won in 2014 even considering the form Cilic was in
Screwed up the final against Djokovic a little bit in 2015

Outside chances in 2010/2011, but he'd lose to Nadal in 2010 with high probability and in 2011 I'd go with Nadal 55/45

To put this into perspective,

- Fed's last USO win happened before Obama became president.
- The first Android smartphone (HTC Dream), had not been released yet.
- The first Twilight film hadn't come out yet.
- I had not started dating my wife yet.

Doubt it.
