I think it is time we have our own club. We are a minority and we need to be heard. so companies can make more strings for us, (well at least we hope):cry:

All 18g related issues raised in this thread; 18g classification etc...

From tension to type, to different Mains and crosses etc....

Please tell us what 18g strings you like what 18g strings you are thinking of installing. include age level of play and frame of choice

Oh and don't forget to chime in on how some companies are labeling in upwards of 1.23mm strings as 18g :twisted::twisted:

Who do they think they are fooling?!?!?!?!

So, 18g members, let us raise our sticks and UNITE!!!!!!!

Oh sorry--I didn't realize that I was supposed to tell you about the string:

Pro Supex Big Ace Micro is a soft poly. It gives some of the spin that poly is known for, while still giving enough touch at net for someone like me who plays a lot of s&v.

what frame and tension?

I tried http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageACPOLYFIB-PHT18.html which was supposedly a soft POLY in 18g, sadly I did not care for it,

thanks lappano, I got used to Nick, not to worry, he was just joking. You are correct we are outcasts and are trying to fit in but never underestimate the underdog

As for your question. I have a modified PT630 with 16g big banger and 18g gosen that I love, yes 18g cross is a good idea IMO, depends if it holds tension and does not eat into your mains, certain ones , depends on how you hit

Kirsh. competition 1.20 on the mains. On the Xs pretty much whatever i have around @ 56Lb. RDS001MP, Baseliner and sometimes go to the net.

I really like this string, is good form the baseline and good on the net. Flat serves are a bomb and the sound of it is amazing. Imo is a soft poly.

Soon to be user of 1.20 Klip Excellerator hybrid. Currently using the 1.25, but I will be using 1.20 soon. I'll be using it in a Wilson nBlade 98 frame, so it won't get torn up as much as it would in a open patterned frame. Nice club to be a part of.

I use Big Banger Ace 1.12mm on a Prince NXG midsize. Looking foward to trying Big Banger TiMo 1.10mm. Can anyone give some comparisons?

i have a pack of pro supex big ace 18g and a pack of pro supex big ace micro 19g coming, do u think these two strings would make a good hybrid with each other?

I have Big Banger Ace in the mains and Prince Syn. Gut w/Duraflex in the crosses, both strung @ 58 lbs...

I'm 14 and going out for Varsity singles next year...:)

They last until I get them restrung, my dad doesn't think of getting racquets restrung as pleasant as I do...:wink:

I'm ready to move to 18 or maybe even 19 gauge strings.

I've been using lots of 17 and 17L gauge strings and loved 'em. Much better than 16g: more of everything--touch, feel, spin, control. No durability issues.

I do have 18 X20 racquets, and thinner gauges make a big difference to me. So now I'm ready to go to 18g.

I have tried SPPP in 1.18, and didn't care for it. It was in a hybrid job with Forten Sweet--too soft and mushy for me. (I like crisp.)

What are you favorite crisp 18g strings?

once you try 18g you will be hooked,

as for crispiest would be PSGD 18g white ,

Good. I like PSGD.

I've got it in a hybrid with Pro's Pro Poly Nova 1.20. Pretty nice--good feel, crisp but not hard, never moves, holds tension well.

Well, sign me up. I use a thicker gut on the mains, and 18g Pro Hurricane on the crosses. Love it even more than Hurricane Tour 16 on the crosses. Makes a stick with 18 mains feel a little bit more like an open pattern.

Question for you guys: why 18? For the bite?
ANd like Jo11yRoger asked, are you cool with the compromised durability?

Yonex RDS 001 Mid--Mains at 60lbs, crosses at 57lbs.

As far as durability goes Big Ace is the best of what I have played with and I have found that micro lasts about as long for me as 17g of many other polys have lasted. I haven't ever tried calculating the number of hours that it takes before I break the strings. I'm currently playing 1-3 hours 4 nights a week on weekdays & maybe around 4 hours a day on weekends and I generally break strings on 1-3 racquets a week rotating between 4 racquets. I think that that's pretty good!

My stringer "accidentally" put 16 gauge strings in my racquet. (I think she was pissed off at me for bugging her with too many string jobs in too short a time.)

I took a racquet in to my stringer and requested a specific string, gauge, and tension hybrid job: Pro's Pro Poly Nova 1.20 mains at 62 lbs. and Wilson Sensation 17g at 62 lbs.

When I picked it up it had Pro's Pro Poly Tatinium 16g and Wilson Sensation 16g.

It hits like a frozen piece of meat. Kind of dull, hard, and mushy--all at the same time. I am about to cut them out with about 15 minutes of hitting time on them.

Once you've tried 17 or 18g, you can never go back!

I recently made the switch to full 17 gauge. I would definitely go 18 if I didn't break strings as much as I do...

I do string the hybrid very low. 40 or 42 in the mains, 43-45 in the crosses in a MP frame. I did string up a Prestige Pro with the hybrid and the ts was just amazing. I love the low power and the crispness of the stringbed until I cut out the strings.

I am surprised no one has mentioned the MSV Hex 1,10 here. I love this string...LOVE IT! I hit moderate spin with a dense pattern racquet and the durability is better than I would have guessed. It outlasts Big Ace for me. Has decent reviews over at Stringforum. I hope TW will have it soon.

That's was is surprising I have only one racquet. I play all five matches just with one racquet. I didn't change any racquets.
I have not any one racquets. It should be coming, you know, next week to my home, but with one racquet I play three sets. I didn't change, you know, like, and I was surprising myself, you know?

Davydenko is talking about that he swicthed to the Ozone Pro Tour that is 18x20 before the Sony Ericsson Open form his old O3 Tour that is 16x18. I think the new Ozone Pro Tour is working very well for Davydenko in Miami.

can you tell me how many pros used thin strings (not 17g)


few observation and correct me if I am wrong: His serves were rather slow no pop or maybe that is because I was comparing them to roddick, also his shots were closer to the net and did not have that big arch?

As you can see on the picture, the strings are 18G.
As the club is named The official 18G club I don't see why you are protesting.

I was breaking the Micro a little too fast, but I do love it and I highly recommend it if you don't mind restringing frequently.
