Who hits really flat?

but if you compare those guys to jimmy connors, chris evert, tracy austin, then they don't seem to hit the ball so flat. those guys would hit the ball with some topspin where as these players from the 70s hardly ever used it.

yeah its a way flatter trajectory than Nadal but theres still mad spin on it. One of the reasons he finds those sick angles.

Agassi seemed to hit pretty damn flat. He did have some topspin ....but just barely enough for control.

Its absolutely impossible for anyone to hit completely flat. All balls have some sort of spin on them.

What about Nalbandian? In the Paris 2007 with Federer, he hit with severe spin. But all the other matches I've seen he seems to hit flat. Does he really?

Agreed, flattest hitter out there.

Sangunetti, Henman, Sampras, uh.... oh Stepanek.

Add Blake into that.

No, he hits with a lot of spin, but not so much that his ball is loopy by any means.

When he is rocketing his inside out crosscourt forehand it is as flat as Blakes. And yes, I have seen him his his forehand many times.

no... just because it isn't loopy doesn't mean there is no spin on it. He actually hits with a decent amount to keep the ball in.

i am inclined to agree with you there

I have to disagree with you ! His groundstrokes have abit of topspin on them. He only flatten it out when he attack with his backhand or going for the forehand down the line . Also it is pretty hard for him to get any topspin on a high boncing ball due to his height

This question makes me wonder, is Nadal capable of hitting a flat forehand?

I know the guy is capable of a lot, but it seems like it would take an effort for him to do this.

May be this deserves another thread?

He can hit a ball with a flatter trajectory. He was doing this quite often against Federer in the final of the AO. Used the heavy crosscourt FH to setup a short ball to attack off of.

What most people don't understand is that spin doesn't necessarily mean it affects the trajectory of the ball (although it can). When Federer, Monfils, Gonzalez, etc. crack a 100 mph ball, they are also easily putting 3k+ rpms on the ball. It's simply not possible to hit the ball that hard and control it without that much spin.

You mean side-underspin?

Sjeng Schalken. If u saw him play up close, the ball looked like it didnt have any spin until it hit the other side of the court.

Can't believe no mention of Safin

I agree with a lot of the guys already mentioned, but to me, Marat Safin hits the ball as consistently flat as anyone today. Obviously all pros hit with varying degrees of topspin, but Safin hits much more straight through the ball on both sides. Of course this becomes a high risk, high reward proposition for him. When he's in a good state of mind and feeling confident, Marat's hard, penetrating groundstrokes are difficult for opponents to handle. However, with little spin, Safin has less margin for error, which is why he can misfire in bunches.
