Barca - Chelsea's going to end up finishing something crazy like 20-16 after one leg seeing as both have suspect defences (although Chelsea didn't have Terry to organise stuff).

So nervous for Hamburg, Garrido and Richards as full backs still scares me against a good squad like this, hopefully our attack can go firing with Ireland, Robinho, and Sturridge.

A 2-0 win is what we need, so excited for this opportunity.

Elano unlucky not to have scored a million times tonight.

lol at the potato that is Dunne, was virtually a walking red card the minute he was booked.

^^ Yeah Elano is proving that when he gets time he is world class, he has proved it for Brazil and should be on a weekly basis for us, in my opinion Zabaleta should go right back, Richards benched, and Elano in midfield since a fit Kompany and De Jong would be enough as holding players.

We made a very good European side look average throughout the entire game and had too many opportunities, but the stupid early goal we gave up killed us.

And yeah Dunne has cost us vital points and now our first semi in decades due to brainhead play. Nedum is becoming a great centre back and will be the foundation for years to come - whilst Dunne is probably going to be replaced come summer.

All around great performance on our part, well done to Hamburg for advancing and helping create an amazing atmosphere. As we say...hopefully next year..

Didi? Yes he did!!

Lampard man of the match against Liverpool, and again today with 2 fantastic passes to set up both goals plus some bone crunching tackles to boot.

I almost spit up my breakfast when I saw that FloMo scored. That's his first in how many centuries again?

But I was very dissapointed with Arsenal's performance. They really couldn't find a groove and get things going, and they never really looked like the Arsenal that we're all used to seeing week-in-week-out. Hopefully Arsene can turn things around and beat Liverpool in the next match, and take down United in the CL.

What a day - City win, United lose FA Cup, and Fergiscum once more left red in the face.

We've got 7th and a European spot all wrapped up don't you worry!

In the meantime you can have fun watching Berbaflop live up to his £30m pricetag - excellent penalty from another one of baconface's brilliant signings :)

Everton and Chelsea should be a decent final. Evenly matched sides who are scared to lose often produce awful games (like the 2007 final, but i'm not complaining! ;)).

A win against them in midweek is the main priority at the moment, though.

I dont think we'll finish top half this season, but we'll be lucky if we do.

by the way, why were Villa wearing the away strip against wet spam?

The referee deemed West Ham's away kit too be too similar to Villa's home, as they were both blue and burgundyish.

So Villa had to wear their white away kit and West Ham wore theirs :)

Wow

I'd say Arshavin has been the biggest bargain of the season so far - I thought he'd be good but was a bit overated. Boy have I been wrong.

Breaker

^^ They were doing ok defensively before Arshavin went there - something like 7 clean sheets in a row? Of course they also were having trouble scoring goals then. They definitely need a class holding player to cover up that weakness and Denilson is not one who can do that.

Imagine if Arsenal had defenders.

Yeah, I think they have a realistic shot at the League next season if they can bulk up defensively. I think they should sign Steven Appiah, that Portugese kid that is a holding mid, and another defensive minded-midfielder (Altintop, maybe, or someone like him?) and if they can keep Fab4 and Arshavin can keep this kind of form up for an entire season, Arsenal will be downright scary right now. I think they need right now, of all times, Michael Essien, he would be amazing with them, but thank god Chelsea have got him!

Speaking of Arsenal, I have a very funny story from last night. A few of the boys and I went down to the bar with the intention of getting wasted (which we did), and about a half hour after we got there, I overheard some guy talking about Football. I walked over and joined in on the conversation. The one guy who was doing all the talking was this fat, quite dumb drunk who was dressed up entirely in Chelsea stuff (training shorts, high socks, football shoes, a '06-'08 home shirt, and a club hat) started going off. I asked him who he supported, and he said Arsenal. I was quite baffeled when he said this, as like I said, was dressed in all Chelsea grab. He said he had 3 favorite teams in each of the 3 biggest leagues in the world. Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal in England, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atleticó Madrid in Spain, and Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus in Italy. But, his lifelong love, as he told me, was Arsenal. I then asked him who he thought was the best player in the world. He told me he KNEW AS A FACT that it was Tierry Henry and that Lionel Messi is only good because he has such a great team around him, and that I don't know anything about football because I thought that Messi is the best at the moment. We then started talking about other teams, and I asked him to name one of the teams outside the big 4 in ANY league. He couldn't name one. I then asked him to whether or not he thought this year's Arsenal team holds any legitimate comparison to the Invincibles of 2004. He didn't know who they were either. Then as my final question, I asked him what he thought of Spurs. He hadn't heard of them either, and was shocked to learn that there was a Mexican player there. He said he had never even heard of Spurs, and was shocked to learn that the biggest derby in London isn't between Chelsea and Liverpool (who he thought was in London as well). My lip was bleeding I bit it so hard trying not to laugh at the guy, and as the final kicker, he said he knew everything there was to know about Football. I left him alone to spout off his nonsense somewhere else.

Brilliant stuff today, and away from home as well! Robinho the supposed 'flop of the season' (pmsl) was once again incredible and could have had 3 or 4 today. Elano class once more and Ireland great as he has been all season. Even Gelson was pretty good today for the first time!

As for comedy managing of the day - Moyes made 3 subs at 59 minutes, classic FIFA game move. 5 minutes later, Jagielka falls down injured with no one around him! We were already commanding at 2-0 at that point but unlucky for them.

Watching highlights from around the league today and I have a comment on the Rag/Spud game of course...

Dear 'Arry Redtwat.

Well done on going 2-nil up at the Swamp, of course your smug mug and overpriced strikers were feeling pretty good about themselves at this point, I mean even your mother's inferior Darren Bent was able to put in a goal! Must have been nice.

Now, Mr. Redtwat, it is at this point that you MUST be thinking that some ******** decision is coming up that will attempt to change the game - either from a dive or from some Rag ref deciding to give away a false decision. Since you're hailed by the media as the master motivator and even at one point the United killer you should have known that decisions like this come along every time they need one, and that your players would be down on motivation afterwards.

The phony penalty comes, and how do you and your squad respond? A complete and utter SHAMBLES as all of a sudden the defence decides to mail it in. Even West Brom wouldn't allow 4 goals in 20 ****ing minutes!

Proof today once again that Redtwat is ****e and the most overated manager in the league.

Well they got that one horribly wrong, didn't they?

I think Vidic should of won the main award with Ireland getting the young player.

Giggs has started something like 12 games and scored 1 goal, the only 2 games I remember him playing fantastic were the 3-0 win against Chelsea and against West Ham away. I could of understood him winning the football writers award for sentiment but to have the main one go to him is a little embarassing.

Vidic has played week in, week out and been amazing (with the exception of his 2-3 game blip around the Liverpool game) and the record van der Sar achieved is more down to Vidic than anyone else.

As for Ireland, I thought he had it in the bag
Big fan of Ashley Young but Ireland was robbed.

^^ Ireland didn't even make top 3. Somehow Agbonlahor and JONNY EVANS were voted ahead of him as well.

It's embarassing. Giggs winning the main award just goes to show how much of a joke the award is.

Breaker

Legend
Also, just looking at the nominees you knew this award would turn into a farce.

Schwarzer deserves to be there above Van Der Sar, especially considering that he doesn't have world class defenders around him.

Ronaldo and Vidic - fine, they have been good, perhaps the award should have gone to Vidic as he has been outstanding and probably the difference in the title race.

Giggs is probably not even top 50 players in the league this year. Off the top of my head Lampard, Ireland, Robinho, Tim Cahill, Hangeland, Jagielka, Anelka, Bosingwa, Sagna, Kuyt, Alonso, and many more should be ahead of him.

Champs lge semi 1 - CFC V Barca

Impressively, Chelsea draw away to a sometimes marauding Barca, with the dutch manager displaying a masterful defensive understanding. My question is though, given how Barca play so attack-minded and with such flair and threat on goal, and given how Chelsea are far more reserved when it comes to forward play, and, crucially, they don't want to concede goals at Stamford Bridge... how the f*** are Chelsea ever going to win!?

Was a hell of a performance to be fair yeah. You're right though, we'll attack them hard next week and they will be so dangerous on the counter attack. I like our chances of scoring a few against them, but I also think they will grab a couple of away goals along the way.

We'll basically have to out score Barceolna and get a bit of luck, don't be surprised if it's a 4-3, end-to-end kind of game!

^^ Barcelona are just on another level from every other team in La Liga and Real have an awful defence, but passing 100 goals in the league with Eto'o, Messi, and Henry combining for over 90 is just unbelievable.

This season is somewhat a failure for them if they don't follow through at Stamford Bridge though, many are claiming this one of the greatest teams of all time and if they can't beat the English clubs it'll say something about La Liga's current quality.

That was fantastic to watch, excellent revenge for last season when Madrid supporting tossers left after watching the guard of honour given by the Barca players.

Why should La Liga's quality be questioned if they don't beat Chelsea? Just because Barca aren't going to go and stick ten men behind the ball like Chelsea did at Camp Nou.

True, I suppose a two game stretch wouldn't lower the reputation of La Liga. It would just be a let down for Barca if they don't take Europe as well considering how much talent they have and all the (well deserved) hype they've gathered.

Should be a great game since as you said they'll be playing their same beautiful football away as they did at home last week against Chelsea. I'm calling a 4-3.

Because they are cleaning up in Spain with their one-dimensional idealistic stuff.

I find it hilarious that they couldn't break us down, yet instead of looking at themselves in the mirror... they choose to blame Chelsea, the referee and everyone but themselves. They're not going anywhere with that kind of attitude.

Every other week a team comes and plants everyone behind the ball at Stamford Bridge, it's tough and sometimes we don't have the right stuff to break it down. After we drew with Everton, Newcastle etc.. were the Chelsea players crying and saying they were nasty nasty people! Of course not, we blamed ourselves for not being good enough to beat a team who didn't just roll over and made it hard for us.

Barca don't like it up 'em!
