ROTFL at the people who thinks Del Potro earned this- It was a setup all along. Federer is smart, he much rather brings Del Po with him to the SF than Murray, so would I !

I saw the match and Fed tanked at 3-4 it was so obvious. On a serious note it just shows how the r/r can be abused. If this was Davydenko there would have been an ITF enquiry. But Federer decides to lose two sets that exactly allows Delpo through. That was a complete set up. It would be hilarious if Delpo beats Fed in the final. I hope this does not come to haunt Roger Tankerer!

Great match from Delpo. I'm liking him at the AO. Yeah, and it's awful convenient that this result allowed both Fed and Delpo to make the semis......

Sorry, I knew the general idea of it. I stand corrected. On the other hand, I'm a River Plate fan so I don't have to know everything about such a major bostero ;)

I'm a Manchester United fan and he joined our rivals, Manchester City. He could join River Plate ;)

I refuse to believe this was a "tank job" or any other sort of job. You're talking about cheating (and also some amazing pretty decent math skills during the match).

Federer didn't take advantage of his chances in the third set and got overpowered by Delpo. Deal with it.

You make it sound like only Federer fans believe he tanked. I am probably the biggest Federer hater on TW and even I believe he tanked the final couple games. It was just too obvious. That is not to take anything away from Del Potro who put brink on the verge of a straight sets defeat and elimination and there was no way Federer was trying for that.

As for knowing what would need to happen that isnt too hard. It is pretty easy to know the tiebreaking rules and how many sets and games are needed for each to advance. We all figured that out easily and quickly, the players arent dumb and could easily figure that out in no time before starting the match.

Did Fed do this on purpose??? Maybe he read Murray post match comments about how anybody would've beaten him, and decided to torture him for 2 hours. Maybe Delpo was in on it to since they've had their beefs before.

I keep thinking how Murray must be now and cant stop laughing. The ending was completley ridiculous, funny, shocking, suspicious and entertaining.

Murray is probably on the Scotch Whiskey by now jabbing pins into his Fed voodoo doll lol.

But really? Getting to the exact number of games? :D

It would make me feel better to accept the idea that Fed tanked . I guess the rest of the Fed fans also. Fact is, DelPo beat him in second consecutive match, even though Fed wasn't playing bad and put more emotions than usual.
He didn't tank because 1) he think only for himself. Tanking doesn't fit in his personality 2) Noone wants to meet on fire DelPo on HC after US and this match anymore. I think Federer will be way more respected after this loss.

It's way more fun to think otherwise though :)

I hope if Fed gets asked about getting broken at such a crucial point in the match he says that anyone would have got broken there if they served that badly =p

Fed is way too professional for this cockamamie talk! He'd shake his head in wonder if he heard it...another Urban Legend for the sport.

I'm ****ing lost? Is fed out? is he in the semi's? is Murray out? sorry im stuck with family for TG

Fed's through mate, he only had to win like one game once he took it to a third

Pony had to win the third 6-3 to go through, which he did when Fed seemed to hand the break to him on a silver platter.

Cue much hilarity as everyone in the thread realises Murray is out in just about the only way possible

seriously, you think federer actually knew the whole math during the match? Im' not sure about that. he did his job (winning one set plus a couple of games in the others) and is ranked first now.

I agree completely. When Fed won the 2nd set he shouted 'I am through', so he would have known most of the permuatations. Once it went 3 sets Delpo had to win by 6-3 or better and he did. The way Fed lost that 8th game was terrible. I think his fee should be deducted by that tanked game. LOL

It isnt hard. We were able to do that on this forum with ease. Why wouldnt the players.

The players didn't pull out a calculator after the second set like I did.

We did it on the forum because we did it mid-match!!!!!

I fear Delpo much more as a Fed fan, Fed is so stubborn against delpo who playes out of his mind against him, fed is trying to hit with him and beat him with his own game instead of using the slice and angles . Murray is always gonna be up to Roger, also it feel a match against Murray would have created an amazing atmosphere

No, I don't see that happening ever. He's a full blooded smelly awful bosterman! :) I still don't understand why you let him go. What's your opinion about the matter?

Unless Roger had notes and a calculator in his bag to use during changeovers!

Here too.

All 3 have won 5 sets and lost 4. In games its like this

Murray 44-43
Fed 44-40
The Pot 45-43

Whats the decider? No. of games won or the differential in games W/L? Or does have precedence over the other? Seems like Murray is shot anyway you look at it.

also what happened at the end? since everyone keeps talking about some miraculous coincidental ending..

Pony saved 3 bp's at 3all.

Only way for both him and Fed to go through after the second set tb was for Pony to win 6-3 or better

Pony held, Fed then made three very very very very very easy UEs and a DF for pony to break with 0 resistance, Pony served out to win 6-3 in the third knocking murray out the only way he could have been (...or so we think)

It's % games won

he is really lovely.

but do you think he has any idea what federer just did tonight?

Not while he was playing. I think it was only the commentaotors who were being fed the pertcentage calculations of the semi's possibiles as the match unfolded who knew. The audience didn't, for sure.
