I didn't say he tanked.

Un-roll your eyes and read the comment again.

Thanks.

Okay.

*un-rolls eyes and reads the comment again*

Sometimes it's obvious that Fed tanked

Today, it looked like he really lost and it upset him

I already figured you weren't talking about today's match (and I actually said this in my previous post), my eye-rolling was towards that bolded part.

I think my eyes will keep rolling.

Edit: Oh wait, wait.. I noticed this now actually: "Today he really lost"...

He lost as he should have. He did not need any more practice at this point, there is clearly no need to sweat to beat 2 highly skilled, fit and motivated opponents.

Doha is just that a warm-up tournament before AO. AO is all that matters. Fed himself admitted that he needed that major, it was the only plan for 2010 that he had in mind in 2009 (or was willing to share with the media).

God, look at the unforced errors!!
I hoe the Fed can get back on track, worried how so many people are beating him without sweat. C'mon Roger!! Allez! Vamos! etc..

- Which of these are not reasoning? Until you started getting all "you don't know sh&t" I did not get down to your level.

- As for your posting history, who cares? You want me to forget Roger's slam history and see his current performance. But you want me to look at your posting history while closing my eyes to what you said earlier about how pitiable that he's getting stomped by his rivals etc.

- Today his BH was completely off. Show me where his BH was breaking down in London and Paris. I'd like to see the evidence supporting your conclusion that this is somehow a continution of last year. All that is common is that he's losing. If you want to call it a streak, sure, call it that. But just as you conclude that's its all downhill from here (talk about sweeping conclusions), I think that there have been losing streaks in Roger's year the past couple of years, its not new. It happened last year after AO. It happened during the clay season and it wasn't until Madrid that he even had success.

- And finally, just the other day against Roger was serving great against Korolev, yet today his serving was abysmal, especially on break points. Down to a 55% first serve pct. The commentators mentioned Roger's wrist and it seems he may have some niggling issue there. So how can you put so much credence in this loss right away without knowing what happened? Who is making sweeping conclusions here?

These are much more reasonable responses than "you are just a childish idiot." And for your info, I never called you a name. I simply said in response to you comment that I was a Fed hater that you did not know what you were talking about. Since I am a Fed fan, I still stand by that comment. Next time you should be a little more careful about jumping to massive conclusions based on one or two comments.

On the substantive part of your post, you conclude that different parts of his game were breaking down today than broke down in late last year, and that this streak is similar to other slumps Fed has had that were only temporary bumps between grand slam successes. I can only note that his serve was indeed one of the things that got worse and worse last year. In fact, as another poster has remarked, it was the one thing that probably cost him the US Open title. Though he did serve pretty well in a couple of games this year, it looks like he's right back to serving poorly again. Also, it's not just his backhand that is failing to hold up in rallies. Certainly most of his errors came from that side, but that's because Davydenko was directing most of his groundstrokes to that side. Federer was just totally inconsistent off the ground generally, and never found his range off either wing. It's the same issue he had in London and Paris.

I'm not suggesting that these are aspects to his game that are in terminal decline, as you hint I did. I am also not saying that Fed will not win a slam this year. What I am saying is that I am skeptical that Federer will magically turn around a months-long slump in the span of little over a week just in time for a grand slam tournament. It's called making a considered judgment based on evidence, and it's not being a "hater" at all. Federer may very well turn his season around, but I don't think it's going to happen dramatically over a few days. I think it will take time and be a gradual improvement. Fed may very well prove me wrong, and I hope to god he does!

Excerpts from different articles about Nadal in the final

January 8, 2009
Doha, Qatar

World No. 2 Rafael Nadal is one win away from ending an eight-month title drought after routing fifth seed Viktor Troicki 6-1, 6-3 Friday to reach the final of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha.

Some post-match comments from Rafa:

“I think I am playing really well. Today, I was bit better. It was a good level of tennis. It was a great match for me and happy to be in the first final of the season,” said Nadal.

“Troicki is a good player. Winning 11 games in a row was a very good effort,” the second seed said.

Talking about today’s final, Nadal explained: “It is important to win the title here. But I know it will be difficult for me tomorrow. If I play well I can do it. I am in the right way to win but in tennis anything can happen.”

Nadal, who had fallen at the quarter-final stage in both his previous appearances (2005, ’09) in Doha, looked to be back to near his top form as he ruthlessly brushed aside the No. 29-ranked Troicki in just 67 minutes.

Having reached the semi-finals without dropping a set and losing only 11 games, it was yet another master class from the Spaniard

+ other comments made during the tourney

"[In the off-season] I was watching a lot of videos of top players to stay tuned to the game. I'm now ready to win as many tournaments as possible" he said.

“I am playing well,” Nadal said. “There was more confirmation that I am hitting the ball well. I started well and served good. I am in the finals without losing a set. I am happy with that."

If Rafa beats Davy tomorrow then I think people can stop dismissing his chances to defend his AO title.

I'll go as far as to call him the favorite if he wins.

The favorite status for the AO is contingent on Rafa not having Delpo in his half. The big Argie is turning out to be a nightmare matchup for him.

Congratulations to the iron-man, Nikolay Davydenko!

He was just too good for the world #1 and #2!

Backing up his amazing fall season with a great win.

Good luck to him and the finalist, Rafa Nadal, at the Australian Open!!!

Cheers, everyone. It's been a good tournament.

Great tournament and fantastic win by Davydenko.
Also, did anyone see the trophy ceremony too? That was probably the most kick-ass trophy ceremony that I ever seen.

Outstanding play from both men .. nadals first set is the best i have ever seens unbelievably good . .perfect . I hae seen most of his matches so i am not kidding .. To think Davy was gooan turn ithought that was common then IMO. So great great effort from him . Both look great going into the AO.

Del potro, Djoko and Fed will have the benefot of not being favorites IMO.

Murray takes it all maybe ?

I dont' think Tennis channel showed this yet. would love to catch the replay somewhere...... TTC is showing semis from Chennai......:???:

Jeebus, even after Bush/Iraque/etc., I still manage to feel genuine pity on you, Americans.

WHY the **** is such a great match not broadcasted/accessible live, where you guys live. And then they still wonder why no-one seems to care about tennis anymore in the USA!!!
