I've always wondered how long on average people here on the forum play with a string before they break it, or cut out/restring their racquets...

I know there are A LOT of other considerations (i.e. string pattern, type of string, etc), but was just curious how often people are restringing here on the forum.

THANKS!

You do not have over 11 hours on your choice list, or over 25 hours for that matter
I actually get a great # of hours, but since I have 4 racquets that are the same, and get rotated around, its hard to say exactly how many hours, but it is a good amount of time, as I am a relatively flat ball hitter, and use nat. gut that hits well until it breaks.

You're right...should have had a >12 hr option...

What racquet do you play with and what gut do you use at what tension ?

I am not sure if hours should be the right way of measure this. It is not the same to spend two hours on a training session than on a match. You hit way more on a training session. I used to be part of a team and we had training sessions 2 times a week, usually my strings were broke or about to broke by the end of the week (2 racquets). Now I just play friendly matches and strings last me almost twice.

I don't usually break because i normally use full polys in 18x20 95sq''. But after 7/8hours when i feel they're dead i cut them out and restring.

16x19 frames- multis usually last 4-8 hours and break. Cut out polys when they die (10-20 hours depending on type) but sometimes play till break.(20-25 hours).

18x20 frames take twice as long to break.:)

VS Gut 20-30mins.

ALU Rough 1-1 1/2 hours.

Ashaway Kevlar 16 / ALU Rough 3-5 hours.

That is practice time, matchplay lasts longer.

And, of course, everyone realizes that breaking strings more quickly doesn't necessarily mean that the player plays at a higher level. :)

Jolly, just a question. Multi's last you longer or VS? Remember seeing your pic of a VS gut job after 30mins before of course- but VS lasts much longer than most multi's actually for me.

i tend to use strings for a maximum of about 5 hours. then i move that racket down in my bag and have it as my number 2 racket.

I haven't used a multi in years, I would assume they would break faster than VS.

I can't imagine too many multis/synguts lasting more than 20 mins of good hitting. Except something like RIP control.

Am I the only one who can last 9 MONTHS....

No, I bet I could last that long but with my own stringing machine I restring every 6-8 weeks. Probably been a few years since I've actually broken a string, due to playing mainly with 18x20 and hitting relatively flat.

Yeah, as I'm pretty sure from multiple experiences gut lasts longer than most multis. 20 mins is really scary.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR FEEDBACK!!!

Just judging from the figures in the poll it looks like ppl are scattered between the 7-11 hours...maybe there'd be more in the 12-15hr category if i had put that in...

think i saw someone say 9 months?! probably suggest restringing that racket!

You know, I said that, but was thinking that it may not be the case.

The thing is that poly bites the ball so well that it allows you to swing faster and keep the ball in. The same with my current setup of Kevlar/ALU.

It is possible that with the multi or syn that it wouldn't bite the ball well enough for me to get enough spin on it to keep it in, and so I would end up swinging slower.

Gut bites awesomely, so of course I can swing however I want with it, and it breaks fast.

I remember the last time I used a multi, I bought an N90 from TW classifieds, and it was strung with NXT, so I decided to hit with it and break it before I restrung with my own string.

I ended up hitting with it for 15 minutes and it was then so shot that the ball would just go wherever it wanted.

I switched to poly because I was breaking Laserfibre Supernatural gut in 30 mins (best string EVER, just lasts for crap). At the time I switched from full multi, ALU/NRG2 blend lasted me approx 5 hours.

I never break strings, but cut them out (poly) after 15-25 hours, when they begin to feel dead to me.

And to be honest, i've been watching a lot of matchplay at our club, from 3.0's to 5.5's and i almost never see anyone breaking a string, and when they break it, it's due to a mishit.

I wonder if the strings over here (Europe) are of better quality, or if a lot of the players on this site see stringbreaking as e-penis and tend to exaggerate.

I get a set and a half(like clockwork) in match play, less time in a hard practice. Gamma TNT 18, strung at 67 lbs. Even though I string my own and TNT isn't too expensive, it still adds up to 2-3 sets per week, sometimes more.
I'm in the middle of a long search for a new string or hybrid combo that gives me the same spin, power & feel that I get with TNT 18. So far, no luck.

I'd agree with you, I found that my racquet speed tends to slow down a bit with a multi compared with poly for fear of going long sometimes, especially when I don't feel confident.

Have to find a set of this Supernatural Gut someday. Heard so many great things about it! Too bad the company wasn't ran well, and that I was playing with only some Ashaway Kevlar when the Supernatural Gut was on the market.

Dude, it is the best string ever.

If cost was no object, and I could have either for free, I like it better than VS.

But it breaks so fast, and even before it breaks it starts to pull apart so you get hot spots on the stringbed where the ball flies when it hits a certain spot because the string is pulled apart there.

But when it is new....oh baby.

^^^ One more thing, you have to use it as a full job.

I tried it once as a cross with ALU mains, and in the words of Charles Barkley, it was "Turrible turrible turrible".

Wtf? I got atleast 25 hours with luxilon adrenaline. Do u ppl just restring as soon as the new string feeling goes away? I preferred the strings after like 4 hours of breaking them in, after that they r pretty consistent.

String breaks at 13 hrs so I cut them out at 12 hrs and restring them on my eagas 3600 drop weight table top. I use ag nylon 75lbs

For me, I break multis on average in 11 hours but the two times I used poly/copoly strings, I never broke them. I usually cut them out after 20 hours of hitting with them as they felt like a board.

I would rather play with gut but that breaks in about 5 hours for me and that's just way out of my budget.

Err.... I know I have a couple of times, and only recently I have discovered how nice some strings can be after they get a few hours old. I have a BLX90 with M2 Pro that I have been using for a few weeks now, and just didn't get around to restringing it. Anyhow I got a new BLX90 strung it up at the same tension with same string, let it settle for a day or so and it played very 'tight' and less feel by quite a margin - I would of swore that it was a crap string I put in.

I found the same with Alu Power as well, the longer it was in the racquet (to a certain point) the better it became. It played soft with so much feel and control.

I broke three sets of bbo lux in one day once. (Two were shear breaks.) Two other guys broke sets that day, for five breaks between us in one practice. Stiff frames, strung tight, hard hitting, heavy top.
