I wish she would drop Yonex altogether. She has dropped ever since switching to them. Most notably her serve has suffered the most which is where coincidentally Yonex suck the most.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the yonex I've tried, just not loved, and especially on serve.

You know Ivanovic did win the 2008 French Open with the Yonex RQiS 1 Tour. Also her serving problems stems from the yips she has developed with her toss. Has nothing to do with what racquet she uses. It is mental. She has not been able to play since she won the 2008 French Open with her Yonex.

So nice to see someone espousing the "it's not about the racquet" philosophy.

Also, looking at the pics in this thread, it's time for Ana to drop 5-10 (15??) lbs if she's serious (which we all know she doesn't need to be, she can just look pretty and earn a LOT). But yeah, she's carrying too much weight, weight that was previously referred to as 'puppy fat', but is now just lazy.

You guys were looking at her racket? I was looking at her ra...nevermind. Not appropriate for 18- people here.

She has been stated by many to have mental problems than physical ones. Although most companies do improve their frames based on their players, so this might help her out.

To me it seems like she's lost weight.

Perhaps a new stick will give her back some confidence? Anything that can trick the mind into beleiving things are better can help.

lol,I guess you don't know anything then ,do You?
When She changed from Wilson to Yonex she went from a top 50 to top 10 and then She won her first major in France with the same racket.
BTW ,that is a great racket, comfortable, fast, great spin access ,it does everything well.
Her bad performances doesn't have anything to do with the racket, but with her own technique, mainly ball toss.
If the racket wasn't good for you on serve, maybe it is to control oriented and You need more a tweener racket.

The good form she developed through the years prior to using the yonex crested in the French Open win despite her racquet change. The honeymoon period hadn't ended for her yet. Then she started thinking more (the isometric shape of the yonex yields less feedback on serve when you are accessing the top of the stringbed more) and this lack of feedback made her more nervous about her control on serve which made her tight even when she is tossing the ball up.

A more conventional shape has a greater variance in response across the top of the bed which allows the user to feel how they are connecting with the ball and subsequently how they are placing and moving the ball. There are many frames like the head prestige series that lend themselves to accurate serving.

This is not to say yonex racquets don't serve well. They do most everything well. They just don't allow you to know you're going to hit that great serve when you really need it.

To say that the racquet isn't an issue begs the question: why is she experimenting? Since she's obviously looking for something more or different from her racquet it's possible she has the same problem with yonex that I described.

You go tell your theories to Richard Krijecek about Yonex and the serve. FYI Krajicek had one of the Biggest and best serves of the 90's and won the 1996 Wimbledon with the Yonex Super RD Tour 90.
Krajicek_1996_french_Open.jpg

Ivanovic lack of consistency on her serve and in her game since she won the 2008 French Open has nothing to do with her racquet. Her serve is Mental and the lack of ground stroke dominance she had has to do with the fact that she is not in the same shape she was in 2008. Also the new racquet she is testing still has the isometric Yonex head shape.

Assumptions aside my friend I'll just add to what VS said and make your theory more useless and none-sense.
Richard Krajicek
Joachim Joahansson(big serve,big forehand,big backhand)
Are you gonna blame the racket because Elena Dementieva doesn't have a good serve??
If I am not wrong Coco Vanderweghe plays with the same racket and can bash the ball.
If one thing, the isometric shape can help you ,since the sweet spot is also longer towards the tip of the head therefore the frame is more forgiving and gives you better stability and less vibratios as the swee spot is bigger.
But serve is all about technique and in matches, mental.
Maybe also Yonex is developing a new racket, but there was the green strip paint inside the throat,so I guess is the same racket, but maybe her contract is due and Yonex may not want to pay her as much as she probably got paid.
Who knows you can sit here all they long and assume stuff, but nobody knows unless they work with her.

Speculating a bit here, I think it's probably a new racquet or new specs she is testing. Ivanovic's current contract with Yonex only ends December 2012. So there is plenty of time still.

good that she is trying new frames to get her rankings back
Yeah, it's the racket's fault. Just like Murray's terrible coaches... (sarcasm)

Agreed. She doesn't have to get Hantuchova slim - but should get rid of 5 or so lbs of fat. And the fact that she works out makes me think it's her diet...

Yes.. I also think she can get fitter.. and should if she is serious.

One thing though.. she changed fitness coach after Wimbledon and I think there is already some progress in that direction. I think she looks a bit fitter now than at Wimbledon. Let's compare and contrast pics of her, different tournaments, wearing the same dress...

Definitely has a long way to go still.. needs to lose some weight and get stronger.

Cliente,
how do you know her contract with Yonex ends in 2012?

That's what all the press releases said back in late 2007/early 2008, when she signed with Yonex. It was stated that she would start using Yonex in the first official tournament of 2008 and that her contract was all the way up to 2012. She can obviously resign with them once her contract expires at the end of 2012, if both want so..

Search in the web for the press releases of her signing the contract. It's there.

But still Isometric head shape.

I think it has more to do with her new fitness coach than the racquet. Just my $.02. But that is Ana's best win in a long, long time. It will be interesting if Ana can back it up.

Sure, it's still a Yonex. It seems it gave her a bit more power.. And it being a new racquet, I'm actually interested in knowing what new technology or specs it will bring.

It was a great win for her, but she definitely needs to back it up or won't mean much.

Here are two interesting sats from the Match:
Ana had 6 double faults during the the 3 set match while Vicka had 12. To me that is huge. Vicka can't give away that many free points and expect to win.

On the return of serve Ana won 23 of 29 points off Vicka's second serve. That is huge putting that kind of pressure on your opponents second serve. While Vicka won 25 of 45 points off of Ana's second serve.

Can't be the racket she is using here is 16x18.

You're right.
So it really is a new racket.I hope Yonex can give it a nice paint job.Maybe it is a newer version of the RQiS 1 tour that many people complained about the lack of power, but I really loved the feel of that racket.
They complain, get a stiffer racket and still complain.I guess would be better to have people complaining about flexible rackets than about stiff rackets.

The Yonex booth in Carlsbad had a few black racquets in the back. The rep said they will be releasing it during the US Open. It is supposed to be the replacement for the RQiS series so presumably this would be it, though I'm sure Ana's stick is custom for her. I got to hold the new racquet last week. It has a thicker beam that tapers to a narrow beam around the throat (I'm guessing 23-24mm in the head and 19-20 in the throat). The paintjob was nice. RDiS 100 but in black. They were also letting people hit with it on court 8, but I had to leave early. Too bad. I was curious how it would have played. I don't think it's all about the racquet. Strings make more of a difference. Yonex is great. Not for a lot of people, but I just like the feel. Cheers.

sorry but my personal experience (far form being a pro anyways...) is that i serve better placed and more precise serves with my Yonex Mid frames (rq-120 and Pim-Pim's RDS001 (rdx pj)).

The yonex's I've tried have been midpluses, so I am curious whether the smaller head size of the mids helps tighten the sweetspot and eliminate the ambiguous area.

Either way, I would have an easier believing I am mistaken if the most prominent defenders of Yonex were currently using them. I suspect that they have found Yonex to be good racquets as I have but are still looking for that little bit extra from a different frame.

If you look at the racquet Ayumi Morita of Japan is using you can see the new paint job. She used to use the RQiS 1 Tour XL 100. The new paint job is black with RDiS 100 decals. Maybe Ana's racquet will be the same color and decal design but just in a 95sq in.

Yonex is probably using ToughFlex on these new sticks, the new material used only on the RDiS 200 (so far). Main stores in Europe no longer selling the RQiS's. Should be the new line. To be released at the Open. 95 sq. in., 16 X 18 and probably the horrible 100 sq. in...

Forget about her racquet... How is Ana playing?

I've checked out the scores... but they can only tell you so much.

As far as Yonex racquets being good on the serve....

Quite possibly, the GOAT serve and volleyer, Martina Navratilova, played with a Yonex racquet. Her serve was a force that dominated the sport like no other before her or after her.

From my experience the isometric shape doesn't provide a "sweet" sweet spot. But, it makes volleying easier by making the sweet spot less of a trampoline – enhancing control. I would personally like to see a more round-headed shape like the old T-2000 in a modern racquet with some weight and firmness.

Of course, the head shape itself is only one factor.

Btw, I think the isometric shape is definitely superior in badminton. In tennis, not so much – unless you're a volleyer. But, it doesn't make a huge difference, either. A racquet can be customized/designed to make the sweet spot feel good with an iso shape, I'm sure. I haven't used an Yonex tennis racquets that are more current than old 80s frames like the R-27 and R-30.

Ivanovic was asked about the racquet. This is what she had to say:

Q. Did you change your racquet
recently?
ANA IVANOVIC: Just before the
tournament actually, yes.
Q. Talk about what made you change
and if you like the new one.
ANA IVANOVIC: Yonex has a new
racquet coming out and it's a new technology, and
they brought it last week for me in San Diego.
Actually, I tried them after Wimbledon a little bit,
but they didn't have the right frames.
So they brought a similar one last week,
and I tried it and I really like. So they allow now
me to play, and I really like it. (Laughing.)
