If Federer were to win one more slam, where would you like it to happen?

US Open. And WTF is ESPN's Hanna Storm talking about? During the opening segment, she says "This is Rogers final last chance to win here..." What a ****ing moronic thing to say. Did I miss something? Did Roger announce his retirement at the end of the year, or something?

I was listening to it also.

She meant this is Rogers last chance to win a grand slam this year. If he fails to win it will be the first year since 2002 that Roger has not won a GS.

US Open is where Federer always has good results. He has had some "bad" results at the French and Wimbledon lately, and Novak owns him in Australia, winning the last 6 sets they've played. But Federer owns Novak historically at the US Open, and even last year, he was supposed to win that match.

Ahh, sure didn't come out that way... I even rolled it back to listen a second time.

(But in my defense, anchors are known for stupid comments... and court siders, too, ie, Shriver.)

I say the US Open is the only place Roger can win another slam. Only this year could he win it again.

Why's that?

He has a pretty decent record at Wimbledon and hasn't been too shabby at AO. For that matter, he's been to the finals a crap load of times at the French, always losing to some clay god bugger............

Why's that?
Because the boy/girl who typed that knows nothing about tennis? :)

This talk (Fed is done) is just ridiculous - as you mentioned he was in the mix at all 3 this yr - and hardly getting blown out. 3 tights sets with Joker at the AO; 4 sets with Rafa (and who knows what happens if he wins the 1st); up 2 sets on Tsonga who then plays the best 3 sets of his life.

Ironically I think Australia. As he's aging Roger is smart he will look after his health.Take a page out of the Agassi playbook and use that winter time for training to peak for that.
Maybe the surface works against him a bit as it's medium pace but he has a superb record there.

If his mentality is right and he throws all his eggs in one basket then he coud steal one there.
Equally said USopen is a stronghold and he can take 5 weeks off after Wimby and use the masters series as a tune up.

Problem at USO is that Super Saturday hurts older players like him even more than others.

I agree AO is his best shot these days, 1st set against Novak at AO was pretty tight and he was up 5-2 in the 2nd so it's not like it was a blowout or something.

For some reason I associate Fed with Wimbledon, so that is where he should win, complete with white sport coat.

Wimbledon, he was just set to win it this year if it wasn't for the choke. Nadal and Djokovic were far from a winning position to lift the trophy in SW19.

When I see Wimbledon, I think about Federer's awesome Wimbledon outfits - Wimbledon = Federer. One more to top Sampras.

Agree, but it wasn't a choke. Tsonga on that day the way he played the last 3 sets would have beaten anyone. Fed maybe choked for a brief period but tsonga played amazing

I think ironically the one place Fed possibly has the best shot of winning again is at Paris.

Nadal seems out of sorts and if Nadal is out of the picture, then Federer's chances at the French increase ten fold. Not to mention Fed's movement has declined dramatically. Now players can suddenly stretch him out from both wings, especially from the forehand. Players he used to love playing are suddenly one of the worst types of players he could play these days. Big hitters can just blast him off the court. Slow court conditions and a reduced field of viable clay courters competing make it a plus for Fed.

With the wider field at the hard court slams and the faster Wimbledon conditions that inevitably favor big hitters, it seems the one slam Fed has struggled his entire year to win may be his biggest chance for a final push.

Aussie i think, it's hardcourt and it is a slow one, could help fed bec of his lack of raw quickness now.if he play "The Federer" or "God Mode Fed", he's atleast go to semis or finals or win GSs, but if he plays "********" ah ah..quarter!

US Open or Australian Open. He's not winning Roland Garros if he has to face Nadal and he's become to passive at Wimbledon.

Mostly agree. Tsonga was zoning. I'd say Roger brain cramped - should have started hitting every ball to the JWT BH because the FH was on fire. But still might have lost!

I still can't believe Roger lost at Wimbledon of all places being 2 sets up. This is the first time ever he loses at a slam being 2 sets up.:-?

Yup, but it also rains on Sunday in NY, no ? Or so I am informed by Veronique.

Toss up between the French and Wimbledon. If he can beat Rafa to do it, I'd pick Roland Garros, otherwise Wimbledon.

i think he has 80 percent of wining another slam as long as Nadal and/or Djokovic are in his ways, that 20 percent left is for Murray, del potro, tsonga if the last two can stay healthy mental and physicaly and Murray doesn't choke

I think Rafa will eventually lead 12-2 in head-to-head vs Federer at the slams. Currently it's 8-2.

If he keeps running into Federer it's possible. but.. how much longer can Nadal keep up making semis and finals in every major? how much longer can Fed? it's a big assumption that they'll meet 4 more times minimum in majors.. since theyve met only twice in the last two years.

I guess Fed could win more slam if he first go up to the #2 spot, and then let Djoko and Nadal killing themselves in the 6 hours semis (hopefully Nadal is in the Djoko draw), for the winner to lose in final against Fed !

The more Rafa loses slam finals more the more hungry he looks. Whereas if he was winning them he might have got complacent. Losing is good for Rafa. Keeps his eye of the tiger on edge. Keep the meat dangled in front of the tiger cage.

I hope it happens, but realistically it'll only be in his and my dreams.

Federer is no. 3 in the world. It's not that crazy to think he can win another major. The easy way in which he dispatched Del Potro and Tomic at the AO makes me believe that he is still some way ahead of no.5 and lower. If he keeps making the semis, luck will get on his side again. Nadal might lose to a Del potro or Tsonga at Wimbledon for instance, to make Federer the favourite against either Djokovic or Murray in a final.

Losing habit is not good and keep losing to same opponent is even worse.

If they met in RG & Nole and Nole spanked rafa again then it will effect crush his confidence.

The scariest thing about that Tsonga match was that it looked like once Tsonga turned on the switch in the 3rd set, Federer had no chance of winning the match. Tsonga was simply too good.

Nah, completely the opposite. Rafa played better in the AO final than he's played in any slam match since 2010. It makes sense though that Djokovic won, because Rafa hasn't even passed the QFs the last 2 years, and Verdasco of all people forced him into a marathon at the 2009 AO. It's just not his slam. So even his best (or best that he's capable of at age 25 at least) shouldn't be good enough to beat a 3-time AO champion.

Rafa also looked more pumped up and excited than in any match I've ever seen him play. And after the match he said 'I'll Keep Fighting', the most defiant words I've heard him say after a loss.

Don't know which was scarier, Tsonga at AO ' 08 vs Nadal (that was some demolition job) or Wimby '11 against Fed. Guess Tsonga hits his scary form once every three years.

Only to then melt vs. Nole(AO 2008 and Wimbledon 2011).

I never saw that Tsonga-Nadal match, so I can't comment. I saw the score though, must have been lopsided.

But then he lost. He threw everything, including the Kitchen sink at Djokovic, and still lost. It doesn't matter if he says he'll keep fighting, he says that about everything. But he's not winning. He hasn't beaten Djokovic in a year and a half.

Yeah, but 3 slams is nothing, so don't worry. Plenty more slams, in fact 3 more slams to be played this year. You worry too much

I'm waiting for some honesty.
