Prestige Pro? You won't be disappointed.

Although different from the PB10 mid, I have experienced a Volkl/Head comparison using my PB10 MP with NXT with similar results. New racquet hunt may begin  (My current go to racquet is the BB London w lead and leather 12.1 strung with my PB10 MP a favorable option)

I had a glorious Prestige experience this weekend.

My friend let me try his freshly strung I.Prestige MP w Cyclone 17 60#. Before I hit with it I was already expecting some overly harsh feel due to the tension. I was nicely surprised with my time with it. There was a decent amount of feel and comfort. Strokes on both wings where really great.

The control and stability of the racquet (which was un-modified) was very pleasing. This made me check out the specs online for the current Prestige MP and I saw the price and fell back a bit.

I am considering checking out the Redondo MP as another option.
(Any Redondo users care to comment?)

Hello, pv,

Could you please advice me some co-polys As crosses for blx ps90 with gut mains. I'm looking for smooth and durable poly.

Thank you!

good eye. that's a small pic. I was looking for a cool deus ex wallpaper but I could not find one so I just found this for a new avatar. you gotta love a game where you and the protagonist have the same first name.

meanwhile, I cant wait till I can start making augmentations to my tennis game.

Just wanted to leave an update here in my string search.

I've been playing with a Pacific Nat Gut (#52) and MSV Co-Focus (#49) hybrid.

I'm done - nothing else to try - this is it for me! I may play with tensions a bit - as I had a huge improvement when I lowered my tension (from 57/53) - but this is all goodness - great power, great control, great feel, great comfort - and so far the durability pays for the gut!

On the fly, no, but there are a startling amount of biomechanical "augmentations" already available. There is no doubt in my mind that within 30-40 years (the game is set in 2027 I believe, but hey, 2001: A Space Odyssey was set 11 years ago and we still can't fly out to Jupiter when we feel like it), "upgraded" body parts will be a realization. Although highly frowned upon in the US, in Europe, you can get surgery to have theoretically flawless vision. In essence, most laser eye surgery places, e.g. Lasik will go up to 20/20 and that's it. Many fighter pilots test better than that at around 20/15 or 20/10 at the top end. Said EV gives you the maximum theoretical vision possible with a human eye lens which is 20/8. That is being able to see something at 20 feet that others can only make out when 8 feet away.

On a tennis related note, Prestige and Prestige Pro demos are in. There must be a 15lb tension difference between the two, so it looks like I'm restringing a demo again :(

Really?..interesting stuff.
btw, that is what I tested at to enter Navy Flight school...back in the day.
Still tested at 20/20 this yr at 52.
Yep, that's as good as it gets. The reasons are extremely boring to 99% of people who don't care about anatomy, so I won't bother listing them, but in essence it comes down to the fact that we simply don't need greater vision, so the parts of our eye aren't made to suit that lack of need.

http://www.optometricmanagement.com/articleviewer.aspx?articleid=71635

Hawks, eagles and falcons in comparison max out around 20/4 or 20/2. The reason these numbers don't exactly scale is because you need a different measurement mechanism. For humans, visual acuity really only is beneficial for having great resolution at distance, that is, being able to discriminate objects at distance. For athletes, that's not very useful since this has nothing to do with depth. If a baseball player can see that a white object is flying at him, that's all he needs. He doesn't need to make out the writing, as long as he can tell it's a baseball and has enough depth perception to know where it is, he's good (that's entirely separate, howeveer).

Fighter pilots, and others in the military however, need to be able to discriminate between similar looking objects at a distance. So for them, 20/10 vision is far more relevant than it is for someone who just happens to have above normal visual acuity. In the bird example, the hawk needs to be able to see that at 400 feet away that a 2" mouse is indeed a mouse even though it may not be moving. That puts just how absurd that level of acuity and resolution is into perspective. Us mortal humans have no need for that ability, hence why most laser surgery places won't even count it as plastic surgery even if you request it. It offers you nothing other than the risks associated with the surgery. Wikipedia puts it nicely:

Some people may suffer from other visual problems, such as color blindness, reduced contrast, or inability to track fast-moving objects and still have normal visual acuity. Thus, normal visual acuity does not mean normal vision. The reason visual acuity is very widely used is that it is a test that corresponds very well with the normal daily activities a person can handle, and evaluate their impairment to do them.

Knew you would love the prestige pro. I was using dunlop 300tours up until two days before my varsity team here on long island got back into season when one of them slipped out of myhand on a serve. I couldnt get my hands on a backup 300 tour so i demoed a pres pro. Regardless I strung it up with mamba black spin and took it out to court the day before tryouts and I just went crazy with the sickening spin i could put on the ball with the 16x19 and still the pinpoint control. Needless to say unless my three frames crack at once, i wont even attempt to find a different frame for years

I need to restring the Prestige MP just to be positive, but the Pro is enticing as none other. Reason being, I strung the Pro at 47 and I swear the MP pings like half an octave higher. It feels like its strung with full poly at 65lbs which isn't exactly doing the Sonic Pro that's in there any justice.

Interestingly, if I do go with the Pro, I will get a 3/8. Why? I do not like leather grips, so I instead will use a Tournagrip and Wilson Supreme combo. The 4 1/2 with just an overgrip still feels bad (not a fan of leather grips as I just said).

PV- Glad you like the Prestige Pro. I also replace the leather grip with Head-Hydrosorb and 5 grams of lead. I know your not a fan of gut mains and poly crosses, but you have to try it out in this racquet. Unbeliveable comfort, power, spin & control. Have yet to decide on the right poly as a cross, tried Hyperion, Scorpion, Tornado, Thunderstorm, mosquito bite with Pacific-Classic Gut(17). Tension 52/48. By the way....read all your posts, thanks for all the input, you have narrowed down my string purchases!!!!!

Lol.

I concur-- the Pro is a more solid racquet choice than the MP. I had a YT MP for a while and it just was missing something that the Mid and the Pro could provide. It's also OBNOXIOUSLY pingy if I remember correctly. That sound drove me through the wall.

IIRC Pro Red Code, A string I don't particularly like, plays really well in the prestiges.

I think you'll stick with them PV. The reason I got my Prestige Pros is because of the serving capability in the racket. That is the shot that I find most sensitive to racket choice and also the one most important to my game.

^ Depends what you mean by 'nice'. If you want to feel that there's no grip beneath your hand and that you're holding onto the pallet ie something hard, then its 'nice'.

Personally, I don't like it. It's just too thin, and feels like you're just holding onto a hard pallet.

You'll also lose a few grams from the handle which will change the balance.

Thins the grip size as well, so I don't see the point because you're changing a grip size that presumably you're already happy with.

Anyone have any replacement grip suggestions? I went with the 4.5, but do play to re-grip them immediately.

Head Hydro sorb white plus 5 grams of lead. When you ordered your racquets did you request same weight etc. I found in the four I have one was 11.4 and the worst 11.1oz. Enjoy.....

I was not aware that Head's quality control is so atrocious that the same frame varies by 8.5 grams. So no, I did not. Perhaps Dunlop has spoiled me with their spot on static weights and balance, but 8.5g is not a tolerance, that's a manufacturing defect.

Not unheard of. I've seen APDCs @ 330g (which is no bad thing), Wilsons with 8g difference between them and so on and so on. Get one racquet at the bottom end of the manufacturing tolerance, and another at the top end, and you'll notice a big difference. Happens with Dunlop too. In any event, its not static weight thats crucial, its distribution of mass.

Anyone here have experience with Cyclone vs Black Magic? I use Cyclone at 46-50 in a BLX PS 16x19, but keep hearing great things about BM and am curious if I'm playing the inferior string?

Lurker of this thread for awhile and it's clear y'all know your stuff :)

Yes, this is heard of for them, Dunlop however is quite up there with QC along with Yonex. I would be shocked to hear about such a variance from either of those two companies. Nonetheless, I am not too concerned and can compensate with lead if need be :)

I've run through 5 vcore 95Ds and with the largest range of 3 grams... It was really, really, impressive. I refuse to buy a wilson frame for the sole fact that I've picked up 2 brand new PS 95s and they were two different racquets for all intensive purposes.

Head, on the other hand is so-so. For me, balance and stiffness are more finnicky. The prestiges I've had were always pretty good. Unfortunately, I'd have to do some work on my radicals to get them the same.

All six of my 4d200Ts are fantastically similar. Four are identical to the gram, and then the other two are identical, but two grams lighter than the other four.

If you replace the Prestige Pro's leather grip with a synthetic grip you could significantly alter the balance and feel, so I'd recommend caution. A Head leather grip weighs ~23g, while synthetic grips typically weigh ~15g, and an 8 gram difference in the handle is pretty significant! I have read, though, that the Gamma Hi-Tech Perforated is one of the heaviest synthetics, so if you want to go synthetic you could try it. (There's a thread in the sticky in the "Other Equipment" section on leather vs sythetic grip weight, where a bunch of the weights of grips are listed.) As for the Babolat Skin Feel, it's probably the thinnest grip out there, and basically brings you down a grip size; moreover it's extremely light and so would significantly alter the balance.--That said, if I really liked the feel and balance of the racquet but struggled with the leather, I'd probably just invest some extra money to get a Fairway or **** or Priority 1 leather grip, which would be much softer.

Well, since Up&comer seems to be on a break, I'll ask you as well.

I've been using Signum Pro strings, mostly SPPP because it seems to hold tension really well, and I'm curious as to what might give similar performance at a similar price with a little more spin (the one thing it seems to lack). Thanks!

I loved reading through your thread by the way!
