I don't understand what Errani is thinking when she plays Sharapova. Clearly, it's a bad matchup to start with, as Errani lacks power, and Sharapova doesn't mind Errani's normal rally ball.

Errani, while a great mover and great defender, should not be hanging way back trying to run back and forth and force errors. As long as Sharapova is in the middle of the court, she doesn't mind having to hit multiple shots to win the point. Sure, she'll miss sometimes, but it doesn't matter.

Errani has the game to disrupt Sharapova. She can approach and she volleys well, she can slice, she can no-pace Sharapova, she can drop-shot, get Sharapova moving and uncomfortable, she can hit short angles. Would any of this lead to a win - maybe not, but she'd have a better chance than hanging back and hitting the ball back as deep as possible. Sharapova has double faulted six times and is generally playing bad, yet she's up 3-0.

well, that comment tells me all I need to know about you too
i do not live in a shell, so i am not afraid to name things the way they are, and weather you like it or not, that is the way they are

You brought up a comparison involving Serena when no one was even talking about her, and

actually, Rybarikova played really well and in that form she could have beat anyone, the other 2 was just a 1 break that made a difference, the rest was a lopsided match
before Wimbledon final I was reading on here it would be bagels or bread sticks, as it turned out it was a match. maybe you should get a grip

no, Rybarikova didn't. She played well for her but it was a matter of Radwanska making many more errors than she normally would as opposed to her getting dominated.

Also serena won the 1st and 3rd sets quite easily against Radwanska at Wimbledon, the second set she was second guessing herself and her level dropped significantly.

Keep hating if you want but you look like a bigger fool than Djokovic did against Haas last night.

Hilarious to hear Errani yell COME ON or pump herself up after winning points on Maria's errors. You are at the mercy of Sharapova. Nothing you do has any impact on the match. It is all in Sharapova's hands.

Actually it's extremely irritating...she is like a chihuahua. A manly, italian chihuahua. Seems to have taken a page out of countryman Frank Schiavone's book....though in Sara's case she doesn't have anywhere close to the flare or variety to back it up. Can't wait to see her swatted out of this tournament, if not by Sharapova then by ANYONE else.

Haha, please don't remind me of Schiavone

I wasn't going to watch this, but I need a little stress release, and watching Errani's squawking fist pumps get beaten down by the merciless screaming one sounds good. Just what I need!

Flipped on tennis channel and there's a repeat of some master's match between mcenroe and courrier. I know it's not live because it's night time. Why not show this when nothing live is on? This sucks!

Because it's on ESPN 2?

Ugh! Good game from Errani. :( Not the beatdown I was hoping for. Maybe I need to watch some mma instead!

Commentators say that even when playing crappy maria will beat anyone but serena, vika and maybe na. Aga beat her at this very tournament last year! So you don't have to have power to send her back to russia, but you need a little more finesse than errani. I would totally root for sara as a midget underdog, but the way she squawks and fistpumps on her little puffballs annoys me

Doesnt Maria live in Florida? lol

But yes I see your point. Errani is the same breed of player as Wozniacki -- not the same as Radwanska. Radwanska lacks power but makes up for it with craft, Errani and Wozniacki are just backboards.

Also yes, Sara's squawking is the least tolerable of everyone on tour...even worse than Screamarenka and Shoulderpova. Maybe rivals Larcher de Brito in terms of annoyingness.

After a certain point, is there a difference who's making noise and what kind of noise?

It's just noise.

Russia thing was a reference to when Aga was complaining about Maria's shrieks to the press, then Maria responded with "Isn't she back in Poland already?" Made the Miami victory much sweeter. What can I say? I love the drama.

I actually think Sara has more craft than Woz, but less power. But similar overall quality. Her matches would probably be more fun for me to watch if not the chihuahua factor

My friend bet live betting.......risking $700 to win $300 that Sharapova wins this game.

well he won

Can I ask you a quick question? You say that you're a professional gambler so this is why I'm asking you. What's smarter? Betting big money on a "sure thing", for example better $500 on a bet saying that the entire top 4 will win their first round in a grand slam and only being able to win $80 with this bet, OR betting smaller amounts on bets that pay out a lot? Like betting $10 on a combo that says Haas will beat Djokovic and Cilic will beat Isner and winning $100 (IF you win).

Other people can answer too, I wonder how people think about this.

Hahaha 14 double faults and 50+ unforced errors yet still takes it in straight sets.

I think it would be really fun (and dangerous) to bet on tennis. Is it legal in U.S. (online, that is)? anyone know?

I can't imagine it being illegal and yes it's dangerous if you can't control yourself but if you manage to keep it to small amounts it's fun and can even be profitable

Betting the $10. You are out $500 if one of them gets injured and ends up losing the match or something and you're only winning $80 each time that all 4 of them do win. You'd have to have Haas and Cilic not win the upset 50 times in a row before you are out $500. You'd win a lot more money than $100 too on a Haas/Cilic combo.

okay thanks! it's also more fun betting the small amounts with the possibility of winning big amounts

What'd she say? I missed it because I don't care what comes out of Maria's mouth. But I'm always interested in cattiness ;)

Nothing over the top, unfortunately. First Gilbert asks her something stupid like, "it seems like after hogstead came on the court and talked to you, your game picked up. Did it help for you to have his advice and encouragement?" Maria looked mildly annoyed at such an idiotic question and said something like, "Well, yeah, isn't that what a coach is for? To give you advice and encouragement?" Then he asked her if she was going to watch the Jankovic/Vinci match tonight, and she basically said if she didn't have anything better to do ("if I don't go out tonight, I might turn on the tv")

Thing is that's what everyone thinks when they start gambling and lots become addicts after a while without realising it.
