did you notice that, tanya? the way caro broke serve 2-1? notice how she did it all on her own? or do you have a different explanation?

One good game doesn't have me convinced, though you're welcome to hold onto that as much as you like Love Game :p

same reason I watch the odd feddy match ... the possible pleasure of seeing him lose!

So true!

Lol @ Petrova... "I feel like I'm doing all the work"

tee hee ...

good coaching advice to nadia there @ 2-3 ... hope she can put it into practice this time ... coach told her last time and she didnt follow it then

=====

one thing her coach said was she was swinging too slowly on the second serves .... then, of course, she holds next serve without needing a second serve :)

Hopefully that can be a good confidence booster for Caroline. Even still I don't give her much chance in the quarters.

agreed. tho i usually diss piotr for not giving caro the space to win on her own, in the case of her facing vika, i'll put aside my dislike, cuz piotr for sure knows (mentally, that is) how to beat vika ..... he's done it in Doha 2009, Tokyo 2010, and Indian Wells 2011.

And believe it or not, Caroline beat Victoria at the US Open in 2008 ... which means she did it on her own, without Piotr.

Youre right that Caro's self-confidence is fragile right now ... but based on the above and the fact that Vika's not at her best yet ... I believe Caro has a pretty good chance! :D

Luckily, they both have the day off Wednesday ...

Kvitova has been flying under the radar this tournament. Couldn't believe they had her out on Court #7 when lower ranked players were on Courts #1 - #3.

So Kiri is now sponsored by Stella McCartney too, in addition to Caro ..... that's good on her .... skirts look much better than some of those all revealing postage stamps she used to wear!

Miss Kitty serving 2-3

=====

huh? did Kiri just break to love?

LOL ... Miss Kitty breaks to love, 3-4 ..... WELCOME to the WTA!!!

Love Game, you can't compare the Azarenka of 2008/2009/2010/etc to the Azarenka of 2012+.

She's a lot better now and has transformed her game to a less error-prone high-percentage grinding style; Azarenka's current game is tailor-made to destroy defensive based opponents like Wozniacki/Radwanska/et al.

Wozniacki will be lucky that she's facing an Azarenka who's playing like absolute crap right now and is sick though, otherwise she'd most likely get the beatdown of a lifetime ala what Azarenka does to Radwanska.

kvitova misses six serves in a row and throws the second set away with both hands!

Have you noticed that whenever caroline's name comes up in a victoria interview that vika gets a sneer on her face. of course, she quickly covers it up, but ... too late ... we've already seen the truth. It's the kind of envy displayed by Salieri toward Mozart in "Amadeus."

i'm sure it absolutely chaps vika's hide that she (whom she obviously believes to be the superior player) has been in the same league with caroline ever since caroline came on the scene (two years AFTER Vika), yet all along caroline had the better record, becoming world no. 1 ahead of vika and holding the no. 1 spot despite challenges by vika and all the rest) ... until caro met rory ...

Weeks @ World no. 1:
WOZNIACKI
-18 weeks ..... total 18
one week in between for Clijsters
- 49 weeks ..... total 67
AZARENKA
- 19 weeks ..... total 19
four weeks in between for Sharapova
- 32 weeks ..... total 61

AZARENKA CAREER TOTAL Wins/Losses: 235-69
WOZNIACKI CAREER TOTAL Wins/Losses: 266-89

As we know by Vika's history of multiple withdrawals and retirements, her record is skewed artificially by her "cowardice" ... that hurts!

And Petra on the double fault wagon. Really surprised by this. Thought if she was going to melt it would be earlier.

Kiri's to lose now really.

Really don't understand what is wrong with this girl. How do you go from dominating a match to making countless errors and double faults?

Maria S. will destroy Maria K. Now that Mariki has gotten to the q's, she'll be satisfied and won't have her head in this next match...

prove it!

That match was two-and-a-half hours.

What's Feddy's average time per match? and how many matches does he play per year?

hmmmmm? :???:

best-of-3 in GS and Davis Cup. Nuff said.

Well Federer USUALLY doesn't play long matches but I take a 1 hour Federer match against a journeyman over 3 hours of the best WTA tennis currently possible. Why? Because I will always have it on the back of my mind that the same journeyman who Federer routines 2 and 3 without breaking a set would double golden set Serena in an actual match.

MELT ..... you may actually have something there ..... some people just do not do well in the heat .... I'm one of those people .... it's in the 90's there today .... that's melting weather in my book ... maybe in Petra's too

Are you a professional athlete though? Kvitova REALLY should be in better shape..

You make a valid point... But how much good would getting fitter really do her? If she has to run, she's gonna lose anyway. She likes to be on top of the baseline, pounding the ball.

all beside the point:
i asked about the actual time in reality, not just some general statement. I personally would like an accounting of the hours. women's serve is weaker than men's because of her height and shoulder strength. therefore, her serve is more susceptible to being broken by the ground game of her opponent ... thus leading to longer games, imo.

i was scoffing at the statement that the men play more hours per year than the women do ... I don't believe that, and I've never seen any proof to the contrary.

K? :)

So much for my Kvitova was going to win the tournament prediction!

What happened to Kvitova, another meltdown? When is this inconsistency going to end? I did not see the match.

Good win for Kirilenko in any case.
