How great to see the FA Cup restored to something of it's former glory with Wigan's incredible and richly deserved achievement today.

I'm a big fan of Roberto Martinez too. He tries to get his team to play football in the right way and seems such a nice character.

Finally, Callum McManaman... what a performance that was eh? Why isn't he in England squads? Why aren't all the top clubs coming in for him? Why isn't he talked up more - he's bloody brilliant!

I've seen Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs linked with him in the past week. He's a good player, i'm sure he'll do well at a top club. Moses has been great for Chelsea, in Europe especially, so i'm sure he can have a similar impact.

Well, of course, I wouldn't want Bale to be sold, full stop. McManaman though really impressed me in how he gave the the City defence such a hard time, as well as in a few previous games this season. If there was any substance to a Spurs interest in him, I'd certainly welcome it big time.

Looking forward to a newly galvanised Wigan giving every thing they've got against you reds... though of course that will be irrelevant for us if can't dispatch that great rugby playing side, Stoke, first.

Nothing so exotic as any of those. Only out of touch at a sales conference...lol

I did at least got to play a lot of tennis while I was gone :)

I think Wigan may have lost some impetus with their success yesterday but you never know.

These late season games can go either way and makes you realize we need a Christmas break in the pl.

Nice to see Newcastle are safe. Hopefully they won't get hit with the injury bug as bad as they did this season.

I think if a huge offer comes in for him Levy will take it (and I mean huge). Not so sure GB wants to leave though.

PED - well, results could have gone better for Wigan re the other teams down the bottom of the table. Winning against Arsenal though is a very big ask... unfortunately. Still, at least we did what we had to do against Stoke.

If the big three clubs all have new managers next season, and everyone seems to think they all will, then there will be frantic transfer activity this summer and Bale will be one of the big targets. Good luck to AVB in trying to keep him; but Spurs need a lot of players and the sort of money they will get for Bale will take them quite a long way.

I don't think Levy will sell to an English club. After the way he lost Carrick and Berbatov, he seemed to promise the fans that he wouldn't sell their best players to a Premier League rival. We saw how he dug his heels in over Modric, he actually lost the club money by flat out refusing to sell to Chelsea, deciding to sell for less to a Spanish club. I can see the same happening with Bale, either this year or next.

Who knows, but I think the money will be in the UK this summer, even though Real Madrid and Barcelona look in need of investment. If I was taking over at Chelsea or Man City then Bale would be top of my list of wanted players.

I think City could do with a winger, no doubt. They have a few areas they need to improve actually, it will be interesting to see what they do with what looks like a new manager coming in.

I wouldn't even bother going after Bale, as a Chelsea fan. I'm more than happy with Oscar, Hazard and Mata. The money should go on a midfielder and a forward to have the maximum effect I think. The way Spurs rejected £45 Million for Modric suggests it would be a waste of time.

I think both City and Chelsea could do with a player who can run the ball fast through midfield and to the edge of the box. Whenever I watch either team it seems to be something they lack.

What about Hazard? :) Bale blows past players with his speed and power, Hazard does it more with a combination of speed and skill/tricks. Different way of getting the job done, but I think they have a similar outcome. Hazard will hopefully be even better next year too, the first year is always a learning curve to some degree.

Bit strange to see it happen before the end of the season, although they've locked up 2nd now so they don't have anything to play for.

I wonder how Pellegrini will do, he could be an inspired choice, he could be another Juande Ramos (sorry for the reminder, Ross ;)).

City prolly need to win the dressing room back, they clearly weren't playing for Mancini any more this season. Could Pellegrini do it? I don't see why not, he's a smooth operator and should at least be able to get on with the South American contingent.

He could do, i'm interested to see how he gets on anyway. It's strange to think of the managers at the top 5 clubs next season, Moyes, Wenger, Pellegrini, Mourinho and AVB. It feels like there's something missing, plus i'm interested to see who Mourinho goes to battle against, he's already done Wenger before, I can't see him getting much out of Pellegrini or Moyes.

I think Hazard is more of a forward player. He has tremendous ability in the opponent's half. What I like about Bale is that he can pick the ball up on the edge of his own box and and move forwards so smoothly, with such control, that the pattern of the attack can change and change again in seconds. You don't always see it at Spurs because the players ahead of him aren't as good as him. But with the quality at Chelsea in the last third of the field - Hazard included- he could be incredible.

Interesting hearing just now Pellegrini is very reluctant to leave Malaga. If he does come to City though, I'd be looking forward with some anticipation to the arrival of the coach of whom it's been said out of all the sides in La Liga his team's passing football was only bettered by Barca. Apparently he doesn't even allow the keeper to kick the ball out. Everything on the deck. Sounds totally like my cup of tea. Of course quite how that would translate into the rather different environment of the PL remains to be seen.

Now then, on another note... "Coooome oooon yoooooou Wiiiiiiigan!" :)

He could, there isn't a team he wouldn't improve I don't think, Barcelona and Bayern included. I've said before that he reminds me of Ronaldo in many ways, they're both explosive, tall, strong, great dribblers etc..

I just feel for the price he would demand, there are other areas that need addressing more to have the maximum effect. The midfield to set a base for the attackers to do what they do more often, that can be achieved by having players behind them who can give the team more possession, whilst having more quality in there so they can make the passes to the dangerous players. Also a top class forward to finish the chances this hopefully brings, I don't have much faith in Torres and Ba. I'd like Shaw to be here to take over from Cole in a years time too.

If Malaga can solve some of its money problems he will probably stay. Last year he was ready to leave at the end of the season when the players were owed a lot of money and some of the best ones were sold. Then he managed to convince the rest to stay. He is the opposite of the constantly on-edge kind of manager and he is very well liked in Malaga. Someone said that if he wanted to run for mayor of the city, he'd be elected. He likes to spend a good amount of time listening to music, reading, going to movies, playing tennis, golf. He belives that being an obsessive workaholic would make him worse as a coach, not better. And of course Marbella, where he lives, is an ideal place to practice the philosophy of anti-workaholism.

In an article on him a few months ago, they said: “Among his extravagances is fact that he doesn’t believe the wellbeing of a group depends on performing public ritual sacrifices from time to time, like the Aztecs." [this sounds like a reference to Mourinho, who loves to crucify his own players in public]. "This kind of moderation leaves some fans puzzled, because if they don’t see some blood streaming from the top of the pyramid now and then, they become sceptical about the power of the leader.”

I am sure there are lots of places Chelsea can improve, though I have only seen them once this year. My feeling about all the leading English clubs is than none of them have a lot of ability at running the ball out from the back. A huge weakness in my view.

Glad that's over with, when they grabbed the goal at the half I was a touch worried but glad to see we open up a can of whup @$$ on them in the second.

I could be really wrong but I think Moyes will be a fail at Utd. I'm quite glad of that but in a perverse way ill miss fergie. He's quitting at the right time though, we re going to spend this summer and Jose will be back so the league quality should step up nicely. I wish Mancini has stuck around, they weren't so threatening with him there, like driving a Porsche around in second gear :twisted:

This is true, i've been impressed with Luiz doing it lately and it's no coincidence that we're probably playing our best football on the back of it. Chalobah, who's on loan at Watford is a similar kind of player, but not as reckless, i'm hoping he can do that from centre back in the coming years.

If we manage to keep de Bruyne this summer, he's someone similar to Bale. He's incredibly quick, tall, can play through the middle and out wide. A few years ago we were so slow and predictable, things have certainly improved alot.

I'm just wondering what Pellegrini may bring if he indeed goes to City. That Porsche might suddenly be driven correctly. :wink: If he gets the job I might actually put a few quid on him/City lifting the title this time next year.

I really have no clue who will win next season, it's going to make for some great viewing though. Will Moyes keep Man Utd going? Will Pellegrini get City playing well again? How will Mourinho do back at Chelsea?

It could end up being Spurs or Arsenal who take it, they have settled managers, in a year where there will be so many changes, that could be important. The thing that might count against Spurs is all of the Thursday night, Channel 5 football they will be involved in next season ;)

I think it definitely will be driven properly. All that talent and he continually plays with that negative Serie A mindset.

That's another thing we'll miss with Fergie gone-that you score 2 and we'll score 3 mentality, always likes his aggressive mindset.

Pellegrini spent £200m (including Kaka and Ronaldo who at that time were the best players) at Real Madrid and didn't win the league or Champions league. What makes you think he'll lift titles at Man City?

I don't disagree but I also take into account that Real is an f$%ed up situation, a political cesspool.

Plus the 200 mil is a bit inflated, yes they paid big for Kaka but he's never even come close to being the player he was at Milan. He's not been worth even half of what they paid for him.

I'll be curious about Pellegrini, just think what Fergie could have done with City's lineup, all that attacking talent and wasted by Mancini. Glad to see the back of him.

I hope Jose will play Chelsea more in the style that he employed at Real instead of the more grinding Chelsea style of the mid 2000's. It was effective but a bit dull.

I think he's changed a bit over the years. Just a balanced side is what i'm hoping for really. At the moment we just rely on Hazard, Mata, Oscar and Ramires on the counter attack. Torres scored a great goal yesterday, but the ball got there without going through the midfield, it was just a long throw by Cech.

To play any kind of attractive football there is a need for someone in the middle who can put the striker in those positions, things are bad when you rely on your keeper to set up the goals!.

How so? I've not seen much news today, apart from Mourinho leaving Madrid.

I'm still trying to work out my favourite part about yesterday. The Spurs fans celebrating after some joker spread the rumour of Newcastle drawing with Arsenal, or Ferguson's face after Lukaku came on and got a second half hat-trick. Both just as funny :)

Crazy last ten minutes in the Tottenham and Arsenal matches yesterday. Was nervous for a bit there, but glad the Gunners got through. I hope they keep Koscielny, I know Guardiola wants him at Bayern.

When Walcott hit the post I was worried. With the way Brentford and Leicester both conceded within 20 seconds of missing a penalty in the playoffs, I thought Newcastle would do something similar to complete the trilogy! Luckily they managed to hold on.

Yeah, would definitely have calmed my nerves if that had gone in! But hey, at the same time it provided a few more nail biting minutes of mad entertainment.

Best of luck to both teams tonight. To be playing for the huge honour of being runners up in the Super Cup, i'm guessing they will both be nervous.

Not really, c'mon Dortmund! Really can't stand Bayern Munich.
