I think yes.
I mean last year, the Maestro had exceeded our expectations.
More than half of this forum probably didn't expect him to beat Novak and Andy back to back at Wimbledon 2012.
I bet most Fed fans were like ''if he wins Wimby 2012 + a Gold Medal (at least he won a Medal) at the Olympics, we'll be satisfied and won't care about his results afterwards'' but clearly, some of you aren't satisfied yet.
He surpassed Sampras' total weeks at No. 1.
The only disappointing stuff were perhaps his runner-up titles at the Olympics and WTF.
Olympics Silver Medal is still something to be proud of.
WTF runner-up is still something to be proud of.
Yes, his decline has caused some disappointing losses this year especially the 2nd round exit at Wimby2013 --> thus snapping his quarter-final streak.
But everyone is taking his greatness/consistency/longevity for granted.
This guy has been playing tennis for so many years that there's bound to be years like 2011 and 2013 where his slam performances won't be too that great.
Whether Roger wins the USO or not, I'm already satisfied as a Fed fan. If he wins, sure that'll be great but we should just appreciate his game alone for the time he has left on the ATP tour.
His time is nearly over but let's enjoy while we can.
Maybe, his next inevitable upset will be where he passes down the torch to the next player destined for greatness?
Perhaps, another 5 setter... history repeats.
Sampras lost to Federer in 5.
Federer loses to ??? in 5?
Whatever happens, he is already one definition for greatness in tennis. Even if his slam record ever gets broken... he has plenty other records....
And even if those get broken, he still represents greatness in his own way.
So let's not worry about the past or the future, enjoy the moment.
